I didn't know that about Rickles' son, but I don't think that will help me because pneumonia isn't hereditary.

Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 9:04 PM
Sandusky: he will probably kill himself after his conviction. Sometime late next year. I wouldn't be surprised if his wife helps him.
Bill Maher: I just hate the guy, that's why I put him there. All he does is talk about how much he hates Christians and Republicans. If it wasn't for Christians and the GOP he wouldn't have a career! The dude stopped being funny years ago. I used to be able to watch him and disagree with him without hating him. Now? He is just so slimey and smug. Puke!
—acm
Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 9:50 PM
No shit, all political commentators wouldn't have a career without the opposing side. Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh for example, and they take the cake for being slimy and smug.
Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 10:22 PM
Agreed on the first point. I like Rush. I agree with most of what Beck says, but the guys bugs me, so I don't watch/listen to him.

Maher is guilty of the same problem a lot of comedians have when they go mainstream. They forget they are comedians are start to feel like they matter. They don't.

Freestyle ski champ dies week after injury
[Updated at 4:44 p.m. ET] A Canadian freestyle skier who was seriously injured during practice in Utah last week has died, her family said Thursday in a statement released by her publicist.
Sarah Burke, 29, died Thursday morning at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, where she had been treated for injuries she suffered during a training run at Park City Mountain Resort's superpipe.
Burke reportedly fell while trying a trick and "whiplashed" onto her side at Park City Mountain Resort's superpipe on January 10, officials have said.
Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 10:24 PM
Heard this story on NPR before the fatality update, questioned the "whiplashed onto her side" statement. Does that make sense?
Media soft touch? Of course, now that she's ultimately dead.
I'm off to whiplash into my kitchen and smoke a cigarette.
Not trying to be prickish, just hate that soft coated media shit. NPR didn't used to do it, now they're dipping everything in sugar too. She smashed her fuckin head. Edit the 'fuck' out of that statement and report it.
Bah.

Have we ever come up with a ruling on points if a celebrity dies but is re-animated sometime during the same year? I know the technology isn't here yet, but it's coming.
Friday, January 20, 2012 at 8:50 PM
if a celebrity dies and then is re-animated but then dies again all in the same year, that's 2 points.
Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 9:25 AM
But if the celebtity dies and is re-animated, but doesn't die again, do you lose the point?
Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 10:14 AM
no, you still get the point because it was a death, but if there's a tie you'd lose the point.
Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 6:37 PM

Blockbuster comedy director Bobby Farrelly, who along with his brother Peter made Something About Mary, Dumb & Dumber and the upcoming The Three Stooges, has released a statement in the wake of his son Jesse's tragic and sudden death this week.
On Wednesday evening, 20-year-old Jesse Farrelly was deemed unresponsive by paramedics and taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Though autopsy results have not yet been released, the 911 call reportedly referenced a possible overdose, and the family indicated in their just-released statement that the young man had been battling with unspecified substances.

Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb has regained consciousness after slipping into a coma, according to the BBC.
Spokesman Doug Wright says Gibb is able to nod and communicate with his family.
The 62-year-old fell into a coma last week after contracting pneumonia. Gibb was hospitalized last year for stomach and colon problems. He has not specified the exact nature of his illness — widely reported to be cancer — but had told the BBC he had a growth on his colon removed.
News reports Friday said Gibb's children, wife, Dwina, and brother Barry, had been singing to him, in hopes of waking him from the coma.
Robin's twin brother Maurice Gibb died in 2003 due to complications from a twisted intestine. He was 53.
His younger brother Andy died of a heart ailment in 1988. He was 30.

Hailed as the "Godfather of Go-Go," Chuck Brown helped usher in a new sound of pulsing, beat-driven music from the D.C. area in the 1970s and '80s. Now, the go-go genre's biggest name is dead.
Tom Goldfogle, who managed Brown, 75, confirmed to WUSA, Washington's CBS affiliate, that the musician has passed away after suffering, in recent weeks, from poor health.
Brown was hospitalized last week while battling pneumonia and had to cancel several concerts because of his ailments.
Brown was perhaps best known in the mainstream for his No. 1 hit Bustin' Loose.

If I were to kill myself, I would prefer a gun. That's pretty quick. I'd buy a gun, rent a hotel room and call the police right before I pulled the trigger. That way a tough, jaded cop would find my body instead of my family or a poor little housekeeper.

If this fucking baby that my ex is about to have in one month is mine, and I can't boost my income by at least 40%, or move to a country outside of the child support net, I'll probably kill myself. There's a list of countries where it's legal or semi-legal to do it, I'll fly there, and have a proper physician assisted suicide. Or just fly to the DRC and see how long it takes for the locals to kill me. Maybe learn a little French before I die? Le suicide est magnifique!
Otherwise it's a life of homelessness or incarceration in the United States. I can't post to TLC from the pumpkin patch.

ZT, stop it! You're not the first guy that got tricked into being a daddy. A lot of women are evil cunts. I know one, possibly two guys who fell into this same ovary trap (Shit, Ovary Trap, is a wonderful name for a band, don't you think?) Women can be just as evil and destructive as men. They don't have the physical strength, but they are capable of severe damage nonetheless.
Do your best to be a part of this child's life. He/she may hate you for a while. That's only natural. Kids don't understand the decisions adults make. But when that kid grows older he/she will know the truth about you. Be a part of that kid's life. And do what you can. You can only do so much. Just recognize this and come to terms with it. I know, easier said than done. But, this is not worth killing yourself over.
—acm
Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 12:18 AM
So the more guys it happens to the more okay that makes it? That's like saying the more people die in a war, the more it justifies the war.
I don't want to be a part of the child's life, and even if I did after child support payments I couldn't afford it (we're talking 900-1200/month). Your plan is that I fly the child in to stay in my studio apartment in the middle of Denver?
In 2012 motherhood is a choice for any woman who happens to get pregnant, fatherhood isn't. A pregnant woman can have an abortion or take her child to a safe haven after she's had it. But, the mother and the state can force you to be an ATM father, and I'm not going to accept that just because there's another human that shares a large percentage of my DNA that I'm bound to it -- legally or otherwise. I never wanted it, and did what I thought was adequate to prevent it from happening. I'll kill myself, leave the country or go to jail before I let it turn me in to a human ATM.
If you hate socialism so much, why is it that you protect the state's right to shake money down from guys that never wanted to be fathers? Taxes are okay, but if a girl lies to you to get pregnant, then it's okay for the state to take as much as possible from a man (in addition to taxes)?!? That's hypocrisy. If you believe taxes are unjust, you of all people should be railing against this. Why is it that you're so in favor of state coercion when it involves unwanted babies, but otherwise it's evil and socialism?
When you have to pay ~1200/month for the rest of your life to some dude that you slept with because he was able to use the government to extract money from you, then you can come and tell me what to do. Until then, I'm sorry but you have no idea what you're talking about.

Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 9:42 PM
ZT, do you feel as though you were totally and purely conned into impregnating someone, or did you have a feeling somewhere inside you that you continued a sexual relationship with someone who's #1 goal was to have a child? If you had some innate feeling that something wasn't right, do you feel that you ignored that instinct?
Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 9:47 PM
Yeah, it was stupid to keep seeing her on and off after she had already lied about birth control once before. Just because she had lied before, it doesn't make her doing it again okay.
Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 9:51 PM
I wouldn't make the argument that she's justified in her actions - I just wondered about your state of mind. I've been in situations in the past where getting laid overrides my very sensible instincts, and I hate myself for it, but I have never been a potential father. I don't know how serious you are, but the idea of you killing yourself because of this makes me really sad.
Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 9:59 PM
I read some of the posts from guys who are in a similar situation to the one I very soon could be in and... it's sad and it's scary. If I had to face one year of that, let alone 18 or more, I probably would off myself. If I did it in the United States, I might go out like this guy:
Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 10:06 PM
I should also say, I really was in love with her for awhile, and would have married her a few years ago if she would have just seen a justice of the peace rather than only wanting to do it if it was a crazy expensive wedding. Part of me wanted for things to work and for us to get back together. But if she'll lie about this, at least I know I'm better off not being with her and I was right that she probably would have divorced me after she had some kids. Then I would have been paying child support and alimony, at least I only have one to worry about.
Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 3:35 AM
zeet, you are worrying about things that may never happen and working yourself into a tizzy. wait and see how things play out. most things in life are not permanent, and things can change in an instant. stop envisioning the worst possible scenario and living your life as though it is already happening.

pookie - I hear what you're saying, and you're right that it could turn out better. If you're also hinting that envisioning only undesirable outcomes can be like a self-fulfilling prophecy, I also agree with you there.
I still mull over something B.F. Skinner wrote, which I thought was profound when I first read it like 15 years ago.
'Love your enemies' is an example--a psychological invention for easing the lot of an oppressed people. The severest trial of oppression is the constant rage which one suffers at the thought of the oppressor. What Jesus discovered was how to avoid these inner devastations. His technique was to practice the opposite emotion. If a man can succeed in loving his enemies and 'taking no thought for the morrow,' he will no longer be assailed by hatred of the oppressor or rage at the loss of his freedom or possessions. He may not get his freedom or possessions back, but he's less miserable. It's a difficult lesson. It comes late in our program.
Lately I agree more with Christopher Hitches, Julius Lester and Ton Steine Scherben.
Thinking about it now, if I'm going to "macht kaputt was euch kaputt macht" it counts as much for my own afflictive emotions as it does for anything external.
So.. ya... good point. :)
Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 4:56 PM
cutie. i never thought of "love your enemies" as actually having feelings of affection toward your enemies. maybe i'm not a big enough person for that. i always thought of it as demonstrating kindness toward an enemy -- taking the high road by not responding in kind.
it goes with keeping in mind that the horrible person causing you pain is/has been afflicted with pain that caused them to become horrible. it breaks the escalating, and ultimately self-destructive, cycle of rendering evil for evil.
Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 6:01 PM

i do not understand how they allow pedophiles out on the streets
i should explain. we were together 11 years but he and i had already parted ways when i found out. now, i *thought* i was doing what was in her best interest (and probably was) by calling Child Protective Services and once they stepped in i thought they would handle everything and that was that. this all happened about 10 or so years ago. they did an investigation, we went to CIVIL court several times, the kids and i went thru lots of family therapy and individual therapy, etc. on our final court date, which happened to be my birthday, the judge issued a no-contact order until he admitted what he'd done and underwent intensive psychiatric counseling, which he's never done. that was the last time any of us saw or heard from him. i never understood why it was civil court and not criminal court, or why he was never arrested or anything. only YEARS later, her school counselor told me i should have ALSO called the police and not just CPS. in all that time, no one brought that up to me and i didn't know to ask. but upon learning that, i felt that so much time had passed and she was doing so well, although still in therapy, that i wasn't sure if i should put her through all that drama or if *I* should even be the one to press charges now that she's grown enough to make decisions for herself. so it's still undecided.
as far as child support, i never expected or wanted a cent from him, but one day as we were leaving court, a lady stopped us as we exited the court room and asked if i was receiving child support. i had no idea who she even was. when i said "no" she dragged us both into this little room and set the whole thing up in a matter of minutes. it took several months to go into effect but in the end i was so grateful on several levels. i heard later that he blamed ME for setting it up O.O
so yeah.

TV chef known for his 'Ooooo, it is so good' tagline lost battle to cancer
Art Ginsburg, the delightfully dorky television chef known as Mr. Food, died at his home in Weston, Fla., Wednesday following a struggle with pancreatic cancer. He was 81.
Ginsburg -- who enticed viewers for decades with a can-do focus on easy weeknight cooking and the tagline "Ooh! It's so good!" -- was diagnosed just over a year ago. The cancer had gone into remission following early treatments and surgery, but returned earlier this month.
Ginsburg had an unlikely formula for success in this era of reality cooking shows, flashy chefs and artisanal foods. With a pleasantly goofy, grandfatherly manner and a willingness to embrace processed foods, Ginsburg endeared himself to millions of home cooks via 90-second segments syndicated to 125 local television stations around the country.
And though he published 52 Mr. Food-related cookbooks, selling more than 8 million copies, he was little known to the nation's foodies and mostly ignored by the glossy magazines. That was the way he liked it.
"They're on the Food Network. They're getting a lot of national publicity. And they're getting big money," he said of fellow food celebrities during a 2010 interview with The Associated Press. "I was always the hometown guy. I don't want to be the super celebrity. When you need bodyguards, that's not my deal."
Ginsburg grew up in the meat business, and eventually started his own catering company. He made his television debut in 1975 in upstate New York on a local morning program. His Mr. Food vignettes were syndicated in nine television markets by 1980. His popularity peaked in 2007, when he was appearing on 168 stations.
He also was generous with the enviably broad reach of his culinary pulpit, frequently inviting up-and-coming celebrities to do guest appearances with him.
"Art Ginsberg was a warm, gregarious man who knew food is more about love and sharing than a fancy ingredient list," said Rachael Ray, who Ginsburg invited on air long before she was a huge celebrity. "He was a supportive and loyal friend and I'll miss his smile and warm hugs. This Thanksgiving I'm thankful I knew him."
In recent years, Ginsburg eased his involvement in the day-to-day operations of the company he founded, Ginsburg Enterprises Incorporated, which produces the television segments and oversees his many other ventures, including a line of housewares. The company also produced television segments that did not star Ginsburg, billing them as the "Mr. Food Test Kitchen." It plans to continue producing and syndicating those segments.

It's just so convenient to say something like "suffered from depression." It's like there's no real problems in the world, so obviously anyone who isn't happy has a disease. It makes it so easy to ignore, and that way people can just go on perpetuating the conditions that cause it to begin with.

'Night Court' Creator Reinhold Weege Dies at 63
Reinhold Weege, creator of the daffy 1980s sitcom Night Court, which ran for nine seasons on NBC and earned seven Emmy Awards and 31 nominations but never the big comedy prize, has died. He was 63.
Weege, who before Night Court wrote and produced for ABC’s Barney Miller -- another lovable Manhattan-set sitcom set in the world of the law -- died Dec. 1 of natural causes in La Jolla, Calif., a family spokeswoman told The Hollywood Reporter.
A native of Chicago, Weege also wrote for the TV adaptations of M*A*S*H and Semi-Tough as well as for Fish, the Barney Miller spinoff that starred Abe Vigoda. He created the short-lived sitcom Park Place, which was set in a legal aid clinic and starred Harold Gould and Alice Drummond, and wrote and directed TV's Nikki and Alexander, with Tim Matheson and Irena Ferris.
In 1968, his senior year at Prospect High School in Mount Prospect, Ill., Weege played Cromwell in A Man for All Seasons opposite future Babylon 5 star Bruce Boxleitner as Sir Thomas More. Shelley Pierce, his high school girlfriend whom he later married, portrayed Lady More. The play won the Illinois state drama competition.
In a story he told to the Chicago Tribune, Weege embarked on a career in Hollywood in 1976 after he was fired from his job as a reporter for a suburban newspaper. He wrote about a “secret meeting, which should have been public” concerning a development project in Schaumberg, Ill., that angered advertisers of the paper.
His big break came when he was hired as a staff writer for Barney Miller. After three years, Weege left the show to strike out on his own with Night Court.
In addition to his ex-wife Shelley, survivors include his daughters Tez and Alix and granddaughter Zoe.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Dec. 16 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary in the Hollywood Hills. For more information, contact Bonnie Covelli at weege12.16.12@gmail.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations can may be made to the Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute.
