*It's Matt, Adam's assistant. Today, Adam had me type his words in a letter to all the posters on this forum:
I was touched at all the beautiful things posted on
the Loveline Companion and felt compelled to respond.
The reason I’m leaving the show is because I got a
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I just couldn’t
pass up, otherwise I would have continued doing the
show well after I was dead. In the past, I’ve been
able to do everything and Loveline. I did it because
I wanted to do it, not because I had to do it. It was
important to me. For those of you who are sad that I
had to leave, look at it this way: I took a three
year job and stretched it out into over ten years so
don’t think of it as cut short, try to think of it as
maximized.
The thing I like the most about Loveline was the
underground community, off the radar aspect of it that
enabled us to explore things for longer and in greater
depth than television or radio normally allow. I’m
glad you guys were able to appreciate that as well. I
had a million meetings with my Program Director over
the years and all he ever told me was to take more
calls and talk less. I’m glad I didn’t listen to him.
I know that would have been a better show for
three-quarters of the casual listeners but I wanted to
do the show that you guys, the fans, wanted to hear.
Also I would have gone insane not talking about stuff
that I wanted to talk about until I was done talking
about it.
Drew and I always felt we had the best jobs in the
world getting paid to explore psychology, the human
condition and what motivates people to do what they
do. I don’t suspect I’ll like my next job as much as
I liked Loveline but it’s not always about doing
what’s easiest or what you enjoy the most. Change is
often times sad but rarely bad. In the big picture a
life without change is a stagnant one. Ten years ago
when I started I just wanted to tell some jokes and
keep my job, but along the way I learned there was
more to this job. I had the opportunity to talk to
people who could benefit from the things I’ve seen and
the mistakes I’ve made and catch them at a point where
I could prevent them from making the same mistakes.
I’m flattered that you guys saw fit to create and
continue posting to this website. I did the show for
ten years pretending that no one was listening; it
freed me up to say things I wouldn’t have normally
said. Over the last few weeks, though, I found out
that you people were listening and for that, I thank
you.

Thanks Adam for the update. You should post on here every once in a while. Have fun at the morning show. And dont forget to do a morning show inpression (like you did on Loveline) every once in a while.

I really hope i get to hear your next radio show. It isn't the same not listening to you everyday.

What a fantabulous guy...Can't wait to hear the new show...

It's one thing that seperates Loveline from other shows is the interaction we have with the staff and hosts. It has a grass roots feel that I've always liked. I've got a hard drive full of Lovelines and I'm definetely looking forward to listening to the morning show and the digit is dizzle, in the hizzy fo' chizzy, gonna be great on the QT fo' real!

i want to write a letter to adam. i love this show, and adam. and anyone who was ever hosting, except for stryker. I'm writing an english paper about loveline and my senior quote is one of adam's (world=oyster) im such a sploozer.

matt's gay studies paid off. no way adam would be able to type out all of that himself.. well maybe he could, it would take him forever and the forum would be moved by then...
anyways we are all thankful for Adam and his great wisdom he sprinkled on all of us. too bad those who it was directed toward refused to listen.
don't worry, long after all of us will be gone, crack-head retards still will be crapping out kids and not a single politician will see it as a problem
Friday, November 11, 2005 at 10:26 PM
Thanks for your thoughts, Adam. I look forward to news, traffic, weather, and traffic every 1/256th hour. Good luck and mahalo!

Thanks for posting that Matt, for Adam, what can I say, your the man. In Showbiz it just doesn't get any better than Adam and I'm going to love listening to him on his new show even here in Kansas. You deserve every one of the opportunities that comes your way. One of these days I'm going to help Adam work out his numbering system, I was going to come down to rough and ready california but then I found out it was only #1232 on the list, damn. (Yes there is really a city in California name Rough and Ready)

Here's my plan for you to make the most of your new show: hire Drew and take calls from retards all day.

He just contradicted himself. He obviously knew people were listening if he made the effort to say what he wanted to say. He didn't really "just find out" that people were listening.
I don't care. I just felt the need to point this out. It was a very nice message though.

someday, you might want to step aside as adam's assistant. if you find yourself in position to recommend a replacement, please pass my name along. i understand the responsibility, attention to detail, and risk involved with the job. the ace man might need pot brownies delivered from jimmy's or someone to run over to dr. marcel's at 2am for an emergency ambien refill. i'll more than gladly keister narcotics or take the fall if they find them in his suitcase after a weekend south of the border.
also, i'm not gay, but i think if i popped some E, dimmed the lights and played some pretty trance low in the background, i could blow you for the recommendation if it came down to it...although i'm not sure if i could swallow. the pill would have to be really smacky. i hope that's not a dealbreaker. i've placed pictures on my profile for your future consideration.

Thanx for all the memories Adam. You were the funniest guy on the radio for almost ten years. Please drop by once in a while. Look forward to your show in January. Oh, for your next TLC show - Adam Carolla Project, how about renovating Dr. Drew's House? Inject a little more chaos into his life. Either that or the studios at Westward None. A big thank you to Matt for passing on your information. Somebody has to teach Adam how to write - his wife and assistant do all his communication with this forum. Anyway, NaNaHe Chief Runningbear! Go back and play some Tetris until next time.....

Adam (and Matt), you were very gracious when I came down to see you for your last show. You didn't have to be nice to sploozers such as us but you were. I don't do that sort of thing ever, so just know you were a part of our lives.
Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 9:13 AM
Adam and Matt,
You have no idea how much it means to us fans to know that you care. Unlike many other shows that would just post these types of releases on thier mainsite (which loveline has a crappy one), your choice of going to where the fans are means that much more. Maybe it's because of your c-list (moving up to b-list) celebrity status, but you genuinly care about your fans and that is amazing. Thank you again.
Matt, keep workin' hard buddy. As much fun as it is being Adam's PA, I know you can make it big. You are a very funny individual.

Thanks Adam for taking the time to shoot off a message to us. I've come to this forum pretty late in the game, but I was with the show(TV and/or radio) almost from the time you started. There are only 2 people I can think of that are funny enough to make me laugh till I cry, and you're one of them. I'm sure the cleaning lady at work wondered more than a few times what the hell is wrong with me. I figure since I was listening live on the East Coast, it probably appeared more absurd to be laughing maniacally at 2:30 in the morning at my desk.
I'm sure Loveline will survive, and I'll be listening as long as I'm on midnight shift. I'm sure it will be funny again too once they find a permanent host. But as a tribute to you, I want you to know that I didn't laugh out loud once the past week. If I ever get off midnight's, I'll try hard to listen to your show on the internet.
So take care, and don't be afraid to return as a guest or fill-in host. You'll always be welcome.

There's a giant hole in my heart now. Thanks for trying to make it a little better with your words. Hopefully your show will syndicate and come east we are getting some lame ass morning show.
Thanks Adam
ps love the Project!
Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 3:40 PM
Adam, thanks for everything and especially thanks for nodding and
smiling when the program directors told you to quit yakking and take
more calls - and then just going on and giving us those great rant-
filled insights ("insight-filled rants"?) between the calls.
But we haven't just been listening and yelling back and forth among
ourselves here, ya know: Loveline's been doing some traveling and
there just might be (cough) a bunch of shows on CDs scattered around
the globe to your friends and fans in far-away places.
Heck, the farthest-away place i know Loveline's traveled is Afghanistan,
with a few more discs likely to arrive on the afternoon camel in a week
or so ... and you wondered if anybody was listening!
So thanks for the letter and best of luck with the morning show when it
happens. Hey, remember, we're still gonna need those weather and traffic
reports!
Next week, gonna get a couple sacks of cranberries ...
Mahalo, Aceman. (Cue music, as Adam exits)

Adam - Thanks for the hours and hours of entertainment and common sense you've given us over the last decade. I'm really going to miss hearing you and Drew together but I'm looking forward to finding out what the new show's going to be like. Strangely, there aren't any affiliates in Iowa for me to listen to, but you can bet I'll find a way to hear it. Just throw us Loveline fans a bone and bust out an old bit now and then, ok?

No way Adam wrote this letter specifically for The Loveline Companion. These are the exact words Adam used during his final week of Loveline. Matt is a Grade-A Gay, he's very proactive, he obviously took initiative, wrote down things Adam said on the air and posted it here. Matt is living in L.A., there's blow to blow and other things to blow, baby needs a raise.
Anyway, I can't wait to call into Adam's morning show and read this letter to him.
I don't care. I just felt the need to point this out. It was a very nice message though.
You're a C-Monster. You've brought shame to all Jews. Trouble in the Middle East....
Sunday, November 13, 2005 at 4:22 AM
I think the fact that Adam had Matt type the letter for him is the coolest part of all. That's so Adam-esque. Like, "I care a lot about you guys, butnot enough to type it myself." It's like years ago when he addressed a called "Call me back in 5 years. Actually, if I'm still here in 5 years I'll kill myself." You knew he loved doing the show, but that's just Adam's delivery. You have to read between the lines.
One more thing to Adam. I'll think about you every time I nap or masturbate. Except when I masturbate you'll look a lot like Heather Locklear.

Thank You so much Adam/Matt for the letter and matt if u do move on, I will always be available to fill in. and adam wow... you will be missed whole-heartedly, i didnt realize how large a roll model you play in my life... more so than a jordan or tony hawk, anyway my vote is 4 sarah silverman as the replacement, do your best, and i will listen to your new show in the morning, i am starting a new job to which offers me the advantage to listen, so the time seems rite-jacoby vegas

Adam, thanks for everything. You're a real mensch.
When I first started listening to Loveline, (in 1998, when Infinity tooked over the programming of Live 105), I immeditely became a fan of both you and Dr. Drew.
Listening to the show soon became a ritual for me, because I loved tuning in for your brutal honesty, your rants, your droll comments, and even your fights with Drew. You were the perfect compliment to Dr. Drew. Where Drew is often overtly clinical and detatched from the lives of the show's callers (he just now used the term "sequential orgasms" -- clearly, a PASSIONATE man), Adam lays it out for the caller in plain English, without the BS.
It seems like every other national call-in show usually has a host that talks AT the audience, but I always felt you talked WITH the audience, sharing all your random thoughts and ideas -- maybe not always making sense but always simple and direct. You also knew exactly how to pick up the mood of the show whenver it started to get stale or boring -- all it would take is one little topic for you to obess over, and the result would usually end up as a classic moment or a new recurring element of the show. I highly doubt Drew could ever have come up with anything as funny as "Germany or Florida?", even on his sharpest days.
I'll miss you on the show, Ace -- It isn't the same without you.

I don't know, "stagnant" that sounds like a too big of word for even then genius Ace Rockola to write. I think this may have been a Matt gay over achievement thing.

Started listening to Loveline back around '99, listened off and on for about a year, then really stared listening all the time. By maybe early '03 the online Loveline-fan community had really come together. I think since then I've listened to every Loveline .mp3 available. What a great show, and a great community. Props to Adam for
recognizing us/y'all.

Long time listener, first time poster, and, I'd like to think, not your typical Loveline listener. I'm a 32-year-old high school teacher. Yikes. I've been listening to the show for 10 years. I tape it at night and listen to in the morning before I go to work. Adam, I emailed you in 1996 and said how much I loved the show. The subject line of the email was "He's the type of guy who likes to roam around..." which was a reference to the clip of you doing karaoke. You did indeed email me back, and I have that email framed on my wall. You have done an incredible job with this show, Adam, and you will be sorely missed. I have enjoyed hearing your and Drew's relationship strengthen and mature over time. No one can replace you, but maybe someone can help Drew (and us) through the grief.
Best of luck to you.
Thursday, November 17, 2005 at 1:51 PM
tears, I've got tears. I've listened since before Adam. Listened since I first found the show in the early 90's. It's always been like there was a safe place, the world was still revolving as long as I could turn on the radio when I couldn't sleep and listen to Adam ranting about something silly.
Thursday, November 17, 2005 at 5:00 PM

Does anyone else remember hearing Adam at the karaoke party?

I know I should keep listening to the show and supporting it, but I'm still missing you too much. I thought I could always count on you and Drew being there, every Sunday through Thursday night, even when the rest of my life was falling apart...or going nowhere. What a sweet letter for Adam to write to us all. It's very much appreciated on my part. I'll still continue to listen to Loveline (I so do wish I had started to listen earlier than just last year. Adam's sense of humor is just brilliant) but it's just not the same without Adam. The show is missing his fine touch.

Adam, we have so much to thank you for, being thanked by you is a little overwhelming...

I will support every project you work on. That's a promise.

I had a million meetings with my Program Director over
the years and all he ever told me was to take more
calls and talk less. I’m glad I didn’t listen to him.
I know that would have been a better show for
three-quarters of the casual listeners but I wanted to
do the show that you guys, the fans, wanted to hear.
This seemed really nice of him to say and it shows how much he appreciates us, but then he says:
I did the show for
ten years pretending that no one was listening
He just contradicted himself. He obviously knew people were listening if he made the effort to say what he wanted to say. He didn't really "just find out" that people were listening.
I don't care. I just felt the need to point this out. It was a very nice message though.

When you're on the radio it can be easier to pretend that no-one is listening. And it's werid how it can feel like it is just you, anyone in the studio with you and anyone who calls. No-one else.
Later, when you're off the air, you know people were listening. If someone suggests you change your style, you think bad doubt thoughts but then you think "no, I'll stick with what I like best and the people who like me will stick with me" or whatever. And when you're feeling really doubtful you think about 12 people listen to you regularly and that's it.
So I don't think adam was contradicting himself, especially since it wasn't a firsthand letter.
I don't care. I just felt the need to point this out. It was a very nice nit-pick though.

This thread is outdated by three months.......you had me thinking that he scripted another letter for us in lew of his new show and the (mostly) positive feedback that he's been getting from us!

But I provided a curt clipsy in lieu of a new letter!
Aren't we special

Why are you trying to bring up shit from the past?

Is Matt still Adam's assistant? I heard him mention Lindsay the other day as his assistant.

FYI, Matt, if you're ever in town look me up. We'll hit all the gay bars.
