Anyone taken Ambien?

Thursday, September 29, 2005 at 12:01 PM

So i heard Jeff Probst speaking very highly of Ambien and i was wondereing if it is really as good as he said? Anyone taken it and like it? Or is it just like the over the counter krap?

Check the archives from about 2 weeks ago--Pookie did some Ambien. I hear she might be holding.

My doctor wrote me a prescription for Ambien, but my mom wouldn't pick it up for me. After pookie's little episode, I am starting to see why.

Yeah, I'm holding. I took it for about a week. It helped me fall asleep within an hour, but I always woke up after 4 hours. Apparently, that is quite common. My well-documented "episode" was after I had taken my first pill and started posting away after waking up.

Of course, it affects everyone differently. It might be best to ask the doctor for a sample so you can try it without having to pay for a whole bottle just in case you don't like it.

I tried Lunesta because it is supposed to knock you out right away and keep you asleep for the whole night. It took me an hour to fall asleep and I woke up after 2 hours with a headache and nausea that lasted the whole next day.

Again, it works differently for different people. My problem is that I stop breathing in my sleep. It's not from snoring as I only snore when I have a head cold. For some reason, when I hit a certain level of sleep, I stop breathing, and it wakes me up. I did attend a sleep clinic in order to determine what to do for it, and I'm going to try one of those C-PAP machines.

I hope that whatever you try that it works well for you. And if you do try a pill, it would be best if you have someone in the house with you to prevent you from posting on the internet if you should wake.

All kidding aside, it's not a bad idea to have someone with you until you see how it affects you.

Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble Pookie. I hope the C-Pap works for you. I have an aquaintance who tried one and ended up needing throat surgery because he couldn't deal with the noise. He's a mess though--T'd up pre-op tranny, overweight, longtime smoker, still smokes weed. He's not a good test case.

i think trazodone would work well for me as it is a kissing cousin of serzone/nefazodone, the most effective antidepressant i've ever been on, but i could never push through the first two weeks of feeling groggy in the morning with a headache.

serzone got black boxed because it rotted a few lightweights livers, so there were lawsuits. as a result, doctors are now reluctant to prescribe it.

trazodone is also very cheap as a generic, you can get a 90 day supply for $10 even without insurance.

never heard of c-pap. you should chop it up, snort it, then report back.

...and i'll never forget my one experience with ambien back in 2001. had a few beers, smoked a few bowls, took an ambien, and was swimming through the time fog for hours. best trip (sans E) evar!

^ cutie. c-pap stands for continuous positive airway pressure. it's a machine that forces constant air into while you sleep so you don't snore or experience sleep apnea (stopping breathing during sleep).

it's the new be-all, end-all gadget that doctors prescribe when you have sleep disorders, but it hasn't helped most people who i personally know who have tried it.

I'm surprised no one ever asked me about this.

my Dad sleeps with one and likes it enough to travel/go through security with it. Currently has it at the hospital.

I took 4mg of Xanax a couple days ago. It was a really stressful day. Usually (like today) it's only 1mg.
