I've even heard her mention Hitler and Jesus in jokes, sometimes even in a sexual context!! So fearless. So revolutionary. Is there anything she won't say? —Beat It! |

Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 10:43 AM Edited Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 10:49 AM Lucille wasn't funny at all in and of herself. She was an actor in a slightly humorous show. <<"anyone can be sarah silverman. just talk about your vagina for an hour and mention a black penis at some point." I &hearts how this thread has turned into pointing out that all female "comedians" are almost exactly the same (I seem to remember pointing this out a long time ago). They are all the same because females have no sense of humor and mostly cannot create humor. In order to get a laugh, they all have to resort to the same stuff. In order for women to attempt to be comedians, they essentially have to become GUYS (perv degeneres comes to mind). This is why all female stand up "comedians" resort to the same type of crude humor (they are copying their shallow perception of what they THINK guys do to make themselves laugh). They think "guys are funny, I don't understand why or how they do it, but guys are always crude, so if I'M crude, I'll be funny too." Last night on Jimmy, Cousin Sal brought up the Sara breakup in a veiled and hilarious way. That was balsy even for Cousin Sal. —striekar |

Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 11:59 AM it pains me to partially agree with you striekar, but most of what you say about about females having no sense of humor is true. its just not in their genes. there are exceptions though, even to this rule. saying lucille ball isn't funny makes you sound pretty fucking stupid, like you just HAVE to stick to your rule by calling her show less than mediocre. lucille ball was a tremendous physical comedian. you could draw a parallel with chris farley. the man wasn't, say, carolla funny. he wasn't insightful and quick tonged and great with puns. he was just loud and physical, and this resulted in some great (albeit dumb) slapstick humor. same with lucille ball. it may not be the smartest comedy on earth but again, one didn't listen to her do 2 hours of live radio every night, just a weekly sitcom. if you watched nick at nite as a kid (or if you're old *DUSTY* *BEAT IT* *CATLOAF* MUHAHAHAHA and you watched it when it first went into syndication) and you didn't enjoy it, then you're just looking for reasons not to laugh. —airking32 |

Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:09 PM Edited Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:10 PM As a kid in the 70s/80s, no matter what, whenever reruns of I love lucy came on, I would watch for as long as I could, out of curiosity, but I could never get a laugh out of it. Now if it's on when I'm surfing channels (not often since I've mostly abandoned tv for the interwebs), I can occasionally get a chuckle out of I love lucy. Now, 99.9% of my enjoyment from that show (whenever I catch it) comes from admiring Desi's character. I enjoy watching a man from the 50s who was portrayed as well dressed, skilled, smart, in control of his life, as opposed to the way men are portrayed in effectively every tv show these days (i.e. portrayed as buffoons and/or criminals who need women to be in charge to save them). —striekar |
