Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 9:46 PM congrats kev. did you qualify for any sweet FHA type loans? i did when i bought my first house at 23. mine was a fixer upper though. i turned it over after three years of repairing and upgrading this and that. i made a nice profit when i sold it, but have been a renter ever since because i hate being responsible for maintenance: everything from lawn care to cleaning out the gutters to patching roof leaks, etc. i've decided i'm not buying another house until i can afford to pay some piss-ant to do all the menial things i feel above. —plurry |

Friday, July 4, 2008 at 6:47 AM Thanks for the kind words everyone - now who wants to help me paint the interior and move? I like split levels too, Dusty. plurry - yes, our loan is an FHA loan, with down payment assistance - "first time buyer" type of deal. It's not really a fixer-upper, but it does need some work - especially the back yard. Also, the bathrooms and kitchen are builder's grade, and could use some upgrading. doingdoingdoing - SV owns TLC, so he's the one living in a solid gold mansion, not me. I've just been here too long. MF - maybe if you fly to the states to help me move. mandee - yes, my 'lady friend' will be co-owner of the house. It's got 3 bedrooms and a full bath upstairs, laundry, 1/2 bath, and a living room/den downstairs, and kitchen, dining, living room on the main level.

Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 9:03 PM Edited Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 9:05 PM A suggestion to Kevin and to everyone else out there that is planning on buying a house with someone they are not legally married to… Do a partnership agreement prior to closing on the purchase. The reason is that if one of you wants to improve or sell the house they can’t without the other’s permission. For example, if one person wants to sell the house, and the other person does not, the first person can’t sell it. But if they have a partnership agreement, it would spell out how the second person could buy out the first person and allow him to get out of the house. If two people are married, they don’t need a partnership agreement since if they got divorced, the courts would address the house. But when friends divorce, there are no guidelines without a partnership agreement. An attorney can write one up or there is probably one that can be found on the internet. It is cheap insurance against future problems.
