A suggestion to Kevin and to everyone else out there that is planning on buying a house with someone they are not legally married to…

Do a partnership agreement prior to closing on the purchase.
The reason is that if one of you wants to improve or sell the house they can’t without the other’s permission.

For example, if one person wants to sell the house, and the other person does not, the first person can’t sell it.
But if they have a partnership agreement, it would spell out how the second person could buy out the first person and allow him to get out of the house.

If two people are married, they don’t need a partnership agreement since if they got divorced, the courts would address the house.
But when friends divorce, there are no guidelines without a partnership agreement.

An attorney can write one up or there is probably one that can be found on the internet. It is cheap insurance against future problems.
