Friday, June 13, 2008 at 12:19 AM Edited Friday, June 13, 2008 at 1:19 AM Friday the 13th is rarely actually a bad day because the local newz always puts such stupid, lame humor mysticism into it, so the reality is it's always better than we expected. I would trade daily Friday the 13ths in exchange for the bush administration. Agree? Seriously, wagner, how on earth can you still support this president? I mean, bush makes CARTER look good. Bush makes Nixon look slightly better. Do you and your mom just listen to nonstop rush and hannity and ignore all other points of view? —striekar |

Friday, June 13, 2008 at 12:11 PM Edited Friday, June 13, 2008 at 12:13 PM Pook, if you WANTED to know the information on defensive use of firearms, you could find it. Obviously you haven't bothered to do even a basic amount of learning on that subject. All you want to do is repeat talking points from the gun haters and those who fear an inanimate object. You had me laughing with that nonsense about "stray bullets." Bullets are fired INTENTIONALLY. Why don't you accept reality that detroit is loaded with very violent PEOPLE who don't care about the safety of others? Are you even capable of admitting that young black males are DIFFERENT (I know we're not allowed to judge and speak the truth), and that young black males are more violent, more careless, more prone to commit robberies, are missing fathers, and on and on. F.B.I. crime statistics show that to be the truth. Do you believe F.B.I. crime statistics? —striekar |

Friday, June 13, 2008 at 12:17 PM Edited Friday, June 13, 2008 at 12:17 PM I believe in the 2nd amendment, but I just feel like gun owners should be held responsible in case something like this happens:
Tot Grabs Grandma's Gun, Shoots Herself
AP) A 4-year-old girl shot herself in the chest Monday after snatching her grandmother's handgun from the woman's purse while riding in a shopping cart at a Sam's Club store, authorities said. A witness, Lueen Homewood, said store workers grabbed first-aid materials off store shelves to help the grandmother as she cradled the wounded child near the store's pharmacy, The (Columbia) State newspaper reported on its Web site. The girl was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and was recovering Monday afternoon after surgery, said police department spokesman Brick Lewis. Hospital officials would not release her condition after the operation. Lewis said the grandmother, Donna Hutto Williamson, has a permit to carry a concealed weapon and the purse containing the small-caliber handgun was in the cart near the child. The 47-year-old Williamson, of Salley, was not immediately charged with a crime.

Friday, June 13, 2008 at 12:22 PM Edited Friday, June 13, 2008 at 12:23 PM yea that no gift rule is genius, i love it, one of adam's best idea's yet. we usually just go out to dinner or something, no gifts. the only time i did something really special was the 6 month, which was the day before valentine's day, so i packed a lunch and took her to the beach, and we lit a bonfire. I dunno, i think it's sorta nice to recognize anniversaries; we're stil young. we don't have a party or anything, we just go on a date, is it really that unusual for teenagers to do this?

Friday, June 13, 2008 at 7:20 PM i'm not against all people having firearms. my dad used to have a couple guns and our whole family would go to a shooting range. my mom and i were actually better than my dad and brother. many members of my family own guns and go on hunting trips. i haven't been to the shooting range in a while, though. that being said, i think that there are too many retards with guns and better regulation is in order. beatit!, there was an article in the past year about some grandma who was able to thwart a robbery with her gun, but i don't here too many of those stories. —pookie |

Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 9:47 AM i would seriously like to see a national poll on how many people who own guns that have ever successfully used that gun to avert a home invasion or mugging. — pookie I've actually spent a considerable amount of time researching this. It's a huge pain in the ass to do so, because if you do a Google search, you end up with what feels like more pages than particles in the universe by pro-gun nuts claiming that guns save lives, with plenty of anecdotal evidence to back up their claims... and you end up with a roughly equal number from anti-gun nuts claiming that guns escalate things or that they're more often used against their owner / accidentally fired by a kid, with plenty of anecdotal evidence to back up their claims. I can't provide any references so take this with the appropriate grain of salt, but after whittling away the bullshit on both sides and finding what looked like the most credible studies, the conclusion I ended up with was that it's just about exactly a wash. Having a gun really does provide a certain amount of protection, and it really does increase risk. The increase in both is fairly small, and the difference is within the margin of error of the studies I read, so just going by the evidence, there's no clear victor. Even if a detailed study could refine that, it'd still be a negligibly small difference. Considering all of that, I'd say it just comes down to a matter of taste (though you're fooling yourself if you've got one or more guns and you think they're going to make an appreciable difference). —anobody |
