Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 10:13 PM Why would chix0r like “There Will Be Blood” but not like “No Country For Old Men” both great movies in their own right, but both GREAT, and neither really beneath the other? I say No Country, you need more years and life experience to enjoy, along with a certain wisdom about life, or mortality, or hell, just a recognition of bad, cliché movie plots, so that an original one like this just stands out. For No Blood, I think she was just infatuated with Daniel Day Lewis, which is easy to do, since he’s clearly the best actor in the history of time. And I also agree that I wasn’t expecting the last act, but it was indeed a pleasant surprise, and completed the movie in a way that would have otherwise left it in a sort of false artistic limbo. Still, it wasn’t better than No Country, in any way, if I had to absolutely choose, I would say it was worse, but that’s not really a fair comparison, since they are completely different movies.

Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 10:20 PM Ok, I have not seen There Will Be Blood yet, but I do have questions about No Country. Did I miss something? I did have many distractions while I was watching but I thought I was following along ok, then I didn't understand why Chigurh was hiding when Ed Tom came back to the hotel, why didn't he just kill him too? Your thoughts? —catloaf |

Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 10:31 PM Hmm, well Cat, in my inebriated state, I’d hate to make any definitive statements, but I think that was supposed to illustrate the first statements Ed made in the beginning of the movie, (wasn’t it something to the jist of not wanting to end it stupidly, or what have you?). Chigurh would have killed Ed, but he saw that Ed wasn’t going to come in, and maybe in some respect wanted Chigurh to leave, so he wouldn’t have to face the choice? Either way, if Ed thought that or not, he gave Chigurh enough time to leave, and it was in Chigurh’s interest to leave clean with the money, if he could. Ed did make the right decision in the end, but it’s interesting. Because, Ed could see, and Chigurh could see, through the reflection in the door jam, that the other person was there, waiting for them. So, did Ed wait until he saw Chigurh leave? Or did he just hesitate too long? I say he just hesitated too long, but that’s the great thing about this movie, it’s open to a lot of interpretation.

Monday, June 2, 2008 at 5:46 PM I didn't find there to be anything puzzling about either movie. There Will Be Blood was just much more interesting. I think because No Country was just an ordinary story about some dude who killed people. Okay? And? Whereas Blood was about an oil baron, and what happened at the derricks, and it told the story of his life and everything. If Daniel Day Lewis had played Javier's part in No Country, I think I would've liked it better, but that would be because he would bring interesting things to the character that Javier didn't. Blood would've been less interesting with Javier as Daniel, but visually, and also where it went story-wise, I still think it would've been better than No Country, even with Day Lewis. I'm still not saying Blood was "better" than No Country, but I definitely liked it a lot more. Also: lol, you said "No Blood." —chix0r |

Monday, June 2, 2008 at 9:53 PM Flip the coin friendo I haven't seen there will be blood but have seen no country. To me it didn't have that stand out feeling of this was the greatest movie of the year to it, but I did enjoy it and thought that it was a great story but I don't think I'll walk away from this one and talk about it 10 years from now like it was a great new pickle to a festival of sour cucumbers :) —rAnCIDsICk@!!! |
