I'll never understand why people single out The Empire Strikes Back. All three are beautiful. It's like singling out an eyeball on a beautiful face. That would be werid, even if it was someone like Kate Bosworth. I don't particularly dig her, by the way. It's crucial that I let everyone know that. She's not sexually attractive to me! Young Americans was a terrible television show and its cancelling would be cause for celebration if industrialized media was not a never-ending soul vulture domino cascade!!! Oh yes, I used three exclamation marks. Fuck off.
Some art I love I don't glut on, not because I'm afraid of tiring of it, but because it's too precious, too delicate, too painful. I guess that's kind of the same thing, and also entirely irrelevant to the interests of absolutely everyone on this planet outside the fields of behavioural science and telemarketing. Bleh.

No they aren't Episode 4 drags drags drags. I'd give the opening sequence of Jedi an A+++--it's my favorite 30 minutes or so in the series, but the Ewoks annoy me. Empire is the first one with any really cool Jedi shit, we meet Lando, probably the best saber fight in the series....I could go on but that's about enough.

All true and all the bouty hunters to boot. It also has the best cinematography and acting of the series. I wish they could have brought Kerhsner back to do all of them after Empire.

I do, however, love the original Star Wars (er, A New Hope). I don't think it drags at all. You want dragging, sit through Phantom Menace.

There are a bunch of great iconic action sequences in IV but what's in between them is mostly wooden acting supporting a meh plot. I would never call it a bad movie, but in comparison to the Empire it pales.

Does anyone care about spoilers for Ewoks movies?

Battle For Endor was horrifying. Not only do they kill off all the family except for Sindel in the first ten minutes, but then the rest of the movie is some badged mediaeval fantasy movie. Castles and knights and stuff? What the fuck?

I mean, I loved Caravan of Courage. I always found it a bit corny but it's sweet too. I still think so. We got it on DVD and the long wondered about Battle For Endor was on the same disc. I can't imagine they'd be able to sell it otherwise.
So one night I watch the first few minutes, and it blows me away because I'm so tired. These characters I've known since I was ten all get killed (they're back, awww - they're dead!!! oh my god!) so I go to bed, wanting to see it later.
Later.
My brother, friend and I endure the torture the way we do all bad movies, by riffing on it. That fucking little creature Teek, I'm sure it was only in the film because it was Steven Spielberg's son. Nepotism. It was funny at the time. Anyway.

I say that Caravan of Courage is a better movie than any of the three new Star Wars sequels that came out recently. It's got better acting (except for Liam Neeson), it's truer to the Star Wars universe, it's more fun and dramatic and sad. Anyone who puts the new movies on par with the old ones is in denial.

I really hate that the Star Wars movies are only available on DVD as a director's cut. The most popular movies ever and you can't get them. What the fuck is that?

Lucas finally relented (though really it was just a way to get everyone to shell out more money for movies they likely already owned) and they released the original theatrical cuts of all three movies on DVD last year. They aren't available down there?

I'm sure Sindel ended up as a furry IRL. I also think that the furry community has probably produced gallons of semen/vaginal lubrication while watching Jedi/Ewok specials.

Out here they included the original cuts on the DVD's after fans had a fit.

The whole reason I want them on DVD is so I can watch them on a big screen. The laserdiscs look only a bit better than our videotape copies.
There aren't any dvd copies of the original Star Wars movies available.

Unless it's the ones from last year, I don't believe he's quite telling the truth. I'm about 99% sure they were never released on DVD (though if they were put out prior to me owning a DVD in player in 1999 I may not have been aware of them being available, but I doubt it).

More likely, he may have acquired DVD's burned from another source (laserdisc or VHS), but there was no retail availability of them.

George Lucas is such a punk, he never came back to Modesto after he became famous. Also I don't think he's ever donated any money to MJC's film dept. Afterall he did go there for a while before transferring to USC, he might as well help out the film majors.

Proof of his genius.

I don't think anyone should be expected to help their former communities after they've achieved success. If they want to, that's cool but it shouldn't be a negative if they don't.

It's usually a bunch of people looking for a hand out. Lucas earned his cash, he shouldn't have to fund everyone else who can't get it going on their own.

I was about to weigh in on this topic, but I see you guys have it all figured out. Good. Good.

You know, a few years ago people thought a pre-digitized DVD release was about as likely as a new SW trilogy. You have to give GL credit for that. But you don't have to give him credit for wearing a "Han Shot First" tee-shirt in public. That's just wrong in so many ways.
