Have you checked out the sex offenders in your area?

I have. It's creepy as hell. There are over 200 sex offenders within a five mile radius of my house. I noticed that a lot of these guys are over 50. Most of them are white or Hispanic. And most of them have facial hair. Most of them would make my skin crawl even if I didn't know they were sex offenders.

It shows their crime next to their photo. The two most common crimes are: lewd acts with a person under 16, and lewd acts with a person under 14.

Other gems include: rape by force, rape by drugging, oral copulation with person under 14, sexual assault with an object, indecent exposure, and incest. Interestingly enough, I only found one dude with incest under his picture. You would think there would be more.

There is one that says annoy or molest children. I'm not sure what that means exactly. I'm guessing that it's probably a 20 year old guy getting arrested for having sex with his 16 year old girlfriend. Certainly not as bad as the rest of them...

Here's the first 25 pictures I found out of the hundreds:

Oooh...I have to show you guys this lady. She was arrested for soliciting a minor female for prostitution:

Huh?

Are you talking about me?

I don't know if this is relevant but...

My ex boyfriend is divorced. He admitted to me one day that he met his wife when she was 16 and he was 22. They became friends. A month later she started coming on to him and then he had sex with her. They were together for about 10 years.

It surprised me. I guess technically he is a sex offender. But I really don't think of him that way. He's one of my best friends.

"sex offender" does not in any way equal "pedophile." The registry definitely has that reputation for some reason, but there are plenty of people on there who were convicted of having sex with a minor even though they are also minors, or soliciting a prostitute, or what have you. There are literally hundreds of things you can end up on the registry for.

"sex offender" does not, therefore, have to mean "bad person."

Oh my God, she dated Anfernee's older brother?

I'm just asking, where did you find your state's sex offender website? And what got you thinking about it?

There is a law here that was passed a few years ago saying sex offenders can't live within X feet of a playground or school, and if they do, they'll be arrested. And they also have to register with the state or they'll be arrested. So now there are homeless sex offenders living under bridges and putting their address as "Rest Stop at Exit _#_ on Interstate _#_", and the cops don't know where anyone is!

I'm not saying nobody on the registry is a pedophile, just that being a registered sex offender does not automatically make you a bad person. I've looked at all of these sites before, and for every five actual moral breaches there's someone who did nothing wrong in the eyes of most people. maybe your area just attracts pedos?

I am quite easily able to invade the privacy of old acquaintances/ex girlfriends/former bosses. It's really pitiful how much information there is about us on the internet. Just tonight I thought of an old friend and was able to trace her career through college, getting her law degree, and then through the bar association I was able to get a nice update on her entire family, boyfriend/husband, and her career. I even know about her miscarriages and children. There's no way i should be able to do this. While these offender lists are devastating in a way, most of us have a nice long Google shadow and any embarrassments will be there for a lot longer than they used to be. I personally think sex offender registry probably causes a lot more fear than good. I used to live 3 doors down from a sex offender and the only thing knowing did for me was freak me out.

At least having your personal history on Google doesn't ensure that it will be sent out in fliers around the new neighborhood if you move (or even return home after serving time). The sex offender registry has become a sort of modern freakshow; we point and stare and whisper and recoil in horror. I doubt it accomplishes much of anything.

TortillaFactory

I doubt it accomplishes much of anything.

For me it's about zilch. Most of the crimes are against women and children and since I am not in any of these groups it doesn't give me anything i need to know. If they had a "violent offender" list that might be useful to me, but even then notsomuch.

So is there a sex offender in your life TF?

at my apartment by my school, i live right by an elementary school, so i don't have any that are that close to me.

these are the five closest. i don't know where these streets are and none of them are that bad looking, so i feel okay about the whole thing. i'm pretty sure there are drug dealers on my street though.

Photobucket this guy has 1 count of aggravated rape and 1 count of indecent assault or battery on a person 14 years or older. but he hasn't done anything since 1991. he's very large though. 6'2, 240 lbs. i'll notice him if i see him.

Photobucket this guy raped a kid. but he looks sorry in his picture.

Photobucket indecent assault and battery on a child. who knows what he actually did though. he could have accidentally touched their arm.

Photobucket this is just generally a man i would not like to meet anywhere. i kind of think i did meet him once. i was in cvs and playing with a stuffed animal and this bald man walked up to me and said 'i wish you would do that to me next'. i bet it was this guy.

Photobucket this dude really isn't bad looking. indecent assault and battery on a child. that kid probably wanted it, whatever it was.

there are some more that live near me at home.
Photobucket he seems like such a nice old man. no wonder children trusted him and then he abused them.

Photobucket he's cute. i'm guessing date rape.

Photobucket AHHH! this guy lives like right next to my friend, kate. he raped a kid.

Photobucket he was charged with child pornography. i would not have guessed that. i'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he didn't know the pictures were of someone who was under 18.

Photobucket whoa! an azn! he's listed as a sexually violent offender. it's because he knows karate.

Photobucket oh shit, he's not happy. i know where this guy lives. he abused a kid.

that's the end of Mandee Presents Sex Offenders. i should have my own show.

A patient, even after the patient has improved to a great extent, nevertheless has not necessarily acquired the art of exposing himself or herself to the public eye. That's a difficult thing not only for patients. But patients have gone through a long extended period in which they have been hiding themselves, not literally, but they have been hiding themselves in the sense of making a secret of their suffering, of which they were ashamed. Perhaps not every patient has done that. But there are very few who did not hide their suffering, their symptoms, and, as they thought of it, their disgrace. And that's what we call the stigma of nervous and mental ailments.

I was thinking strange that he's in both of those movies. He did a really good performance though, but I didn't want him to kill himself in the end. I take solace in the thought that since his arms weren't tied I'm assuming he grabbed the rope pulled himself up and then raped and killed that bitch. That was a damn gripping movie though, and I don't think anyone else could have mastered that role like Ellen Page did, I personally don't like her, but she was absolutely perfect for that character.
