In 1988 Sony released ED Beta which had a comparable resolution to DVD. So much for the wisdom of the marketplace. Or wisdom of crowds. Or whatever other hippie terms are used to look optimistically on the dismal headless chicken sway and fro of the people everywhere.
I mean, seriously, recordable DVD quality in the 80s. What could we be doing now?
