So. I'm one of those people who hardly ever buys CD's. I have a general rule that if I like a few of the songs a lot (that I downloaded), I'll buy the CD as a "hey way to go, you made a solid CD" for the artist. Otherwise, I stick to simply downloading the songs I like and say 'fuck you' to the rest of the CD, for better or for worse. Well actually I'll buy the album if I thought the previous one was tremendous (see: Arctic Monkeys).
Thanks to www.pandora.com I discovered a song I really liked (The Ruse by a fellow named Judah Johnson) and for whatever reason I threw it down on my birthday list, thinking that if that song was that great, the rest of the CD had to have some good stuff on it, and my parents bought it for me. Turns out the rest of the CD was absolute SHIT. SHIT SHIT SHIT. Including two completely retarded instrumental, 30 second clips of pure stupidity.
So here's my anti-plug for Judah Johnson. Never buy any of his CD's. Not like you've ever heard of him or are likely to ever come across his CD anyways. The album's called "Kisses and Interrogation".
The strange thing about this is that this particular CD happens to be available in its entirety on iTunes so you could have checked it out and discovered that the thing blows before asking for the disc.
When I say download music, I mean download illegally. And I don't think any of the songs from the disc where on Limewire at all when I looked, so I was forced to buy it.
Even so, you can legally listen to 30 second snippets through iTunes (without buying them) and (I'm guessing) that would have been enough to know that it sucked donkey schlong.
Incidentally, if you don't want to install iTunes, you can always check Amazon's MP3 store (though Kisses and Interrogation isn't available there yet).
Yeah, I have iTunes, but I don't really utilize it for anything other than playing the music I have on my computer. But I did look on Amazon. Regardless, I'm pissed that such a good song could come off of a horrendously bad album.

Join the club.
That's why I stopped buying CDs before the iTunes store opened up (though I do still have a couple of hundred CDs with only 1-2 good songs and a bunch of crappy filler on them).

you may find it interesting to note that none of the members are actually named judah johnson.

also, you can also listen to these "30 second snippets" on allmusic.com, plus get a professional review from a trusted source without the use of itunes.

Quite Fucking True. the 30 second clips kick ass. And you don't even need an Apple account to listen to them.

No, ABM, I wasn't talking about that CD. I haven't bothered myself to listen to anything off that one after my experience with the one previous.
