Thursday, January 3, 2008 at 2:16 PM the rest of the baseball world and i are following the johan santana situation closely. with you being a big fan and living in minnasota, i figure you hear all kinds of rumors. word also is that if they deal santana, they may also deal stud closer joe nathan meaning that just like the a's, 2008 will be a "rebuild mode" for the team. obviously, both players will fetch an ess load of talent. —plurry |

Friday, January 4, 2008 at 4:59 AM There have been literally no rumors for probably the last couple of weeks. I don't believe Ryan wants to go into this year officially calling it a rebuilding year. The Twins have always managed to find someone to turn into a solid closer, so I think they'll keep Nathan (unless he goes to the Sox in order to get one of their super-prospects for the Santana deal, although they don't really NEED a closer) and then trade Santana hopefully her in the next few weeks to the Red Sox. If they can't resign him (which I'd imagine they won't) they'll make a push for the Red Sox Ellsbury, Masterson, and either Buckholz or the other pitching prospect. Can't remember his name right off the top of my head. I don't think he'll be traded to the Yankees. They're too reluctant to consider trading Joba, and discussions haven't been that fruitful with them. —andrewwagner777 |

Thursday, January 10, 2008 at 3:12 PM Joe Christensen, of the Star Tribune, reports the New York Mets may be the best fit to land Minnesota Twins SP Johan Santana. The Mets have reportedly offered P Deolis Guerra, OF Carlos Gomez, P Kevin Mulvey and SP Phil Humber. The Twins apparently would agree to that trade package if the Mets would add OF Fernando Martinez. Bryan Hoch, of Yankees.MLB.com, reports the New York Yankees have made no progress in attempting to trade for Minnesota Twins SP Johan Santana, and the team may now be leaning away from making the trade. "What it comes down to right now is giving up a lot [in a trade] and then having to do the big contract, as well," Yankees senior vice president Hank Steinbrenner said. "If [Santana] was just a free agent, we could just go ahead and do it. There's a big difference this way. We have to sign him as if he's a free agent, plus you have to give up major talent. That's a tall order." —plurry |
