Friday, December 21, 2007 at 7:34 AM laradio.com: Carolla Re-Signs at KLSX and Bonaduce Is Out of Morning Show (December 21, 2007) At 6:30 a.m. this morning, CBS Radio sent out a press release that Adam Carolla has been signed to a multi-year contract extension. The KLSX show will be simulcast in Portland and Las Vegas with rumors that 91X-San Diego will add the show come the New Year. “I'm incredibly excited to continue my relationship with the fine folks at CBS Radio,” said Carolla. “Launching a new show is never an easy task, but I feel like the past two years have laid the cement foundation and I'm now ready to throw the house warming party. I'm looking forward to returning to work on January 2, just not at 5:30 in the morning.” Within the same press release, it was announced that Danny Bonaduce will leave the morning show and take on the 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. shift with a program called 'Broadcasting Bonaduce.' “This announcement will maximize Danny’s exposure on the station and the web where he has a national following. He has brought much excitement and entertainment to 'The Adam Carolla Show' we expect him to bring the same enthusiasm to the afternoon time slot,” said Jack Silver, KLSX pd. Teresa Strasser will continue in the mornings with Adam. Did KLSX Fail to Exploit Morning Controversy? Rob Barnett (cover of TALKERS Magazine from last year) was president of CBS Radio Programming when Howard Stern announced he was leaving the company for Sirius Satellite Radio. It was Rob’s daunting task to find a replacement for Howard. “The ONLY choice for L.A., and for the West Coast Stern stations was the man who’d been on Howard’s show for scores of LIVE appearances – the man who rocked The Man Show with brother Jimmy Kimmel – the man who made ‘Loveline’ a late night hit – the man with unique comic skills to improve and create immediate compelling content out of every scrap of radio material – the man who can build a house with his bare hands – and you get the drift: C-A-R-O-L-L-A,” wrote Barnett at his blog: ( http://blog.mydamnchannel.com/ ) Barnett was not happy when KLSX recently added Danny Bonaduce to the morning mix. Barnett prepared the company for the fact that Adam would take a couple of years to make his morning mark. “When Stern first syndicated, it took four years for him to lay waste to the competition,” wrote Barnett.
Word is that Adam has finally had it with Danny and was one of the reasons for his no-show last week. Adam has mentioned on the air in the past that he prides himself on not missing work. Well, he not only missed most of last week but didn’t show up for a live show, ‘Carolla Christmas,’ last Thursday night that aired Friday morning sans Adam. Insiders also report that CBS Radio asked Adam to take a pay cut, which as you can imagine didn’t go over well. This walkout perhaps is in retaliation to the reality that he would get paid less than he did for the first two years of his contract. While Adam was a no-show last week, he did show up for an hour with Dr. Drew Pinsky’s syndicated show on new talker KGIL (1260AM). Adam was also scheduled to appear with his buddy Dave Dameshek on sports KSPN on Wednesday afternoon but he did not show. Speculation is that KLSX management did not like the embarrassment of Adam appearing all over town on competing radio stations but not showing up for his own show. (Photo of Adam from his upcoming movie, The Hammer) KLSX silenced the Adam Carolla message boards. “They are on vacation,” said KLSX pd Jack Silver. Barnett believes that Silver isn’t taking advantage of the potential controversy over the Carolla no-show. “Old Jack Silver completely missed the lessons he should have learned from Stern,” Barnett offered yesterday. “Instead of inviting controversy as an honest and essential friend of true talk radio – AND great for ratings plus his bonus checks – he goes pussy and takes the message boards down to avoid any harsh critique – whotta shame plus what an indictment on the fact that he DOESN'T GET IT.” —db |

Friday, December 21, 2007 at 7:50 AM Sounds like a classic Adam move. He did the same kind of thing when he was negoitating for milk for the coffee at Loveline and said he just wouldn't come in if they didn't get milk. That worked and so did this. Raise a glass and do a ziggy sake. GOOD TIMES! —sploozer105 |

Friday, December 21, 2007 at 2:39 PM Wow, nice, I totally thought Adam was gone. He must have some people behind the scenes that like him, with real influence, that made this happen. Well, didn’t Danny’s presence bring the ratings up? He does what it takes to entertain a certain population of people, the “Tom Leykis” people. He’s successful at it, good for him, I hope he has more success at his new show, he does deserve it. That guy will do whatever it takes to get ratings. I’m super impressed that Adam got Danny gone from the show, and am completely surprised that he’s not gone. I just don’t think he’s very good in the mornings, or at least in the format that he’s using in the mornings.

Friday, December 21, 2007 at 5:00 PM i didn't mind danny so much, but i was ready for him to move on. did like him much more than dameshek. i do hope bald bryan gets more air time. he knows what's up, and has been around adam long enough to know how to "set 'em up" so the ace man can "knock 'em down". this is excellent news, but it's going to be a challenge listening to adam's show and drew's new show on a daily basis. some how, some way, i will. i've really, really taken to the stryker-less version of loveline aka dr. drew live. —plurry |

Friday, December 21, 2007 at 7:29 PM bald bryan sucks on the mic. Anyone ever tell you you're a real douche? well they signed him already for next year so they had to use him for something or get sued for at least a years pay Two years, I believe. Well, didn’t Danny’s presence bring the ratings up? It's hard to say really. You can't go back and rerun the year minus Danny to be sure, so it's at least possible that the increase was just Adam's natural audience building (heck - for all we know that was actually hindered by having Danny on the mic). i didn't mind danny so much, but i was ready for him to move on. The thing that was bothering me most with Danny is that recently he's been over the top with the whole "I'll be the idiot jackass guy who goes out and does stupid shit to get the 'tards to listen". Much as I hate to, I do have to freely admit that he was better than Dave. i do hope bald bryan gets more air time 'twould be awesome. i've really, really taken to the stryker-less version of loveline aka dr. drew live. I already have too much shit to podcast. What I really need is a way to play things at around 1.5-2x normal speed without pitch-shifting so that I can hear more of these shows. he's been sick (and thus absent) for the past couple of days Although I no longer harbor the delusion that I could ever get the gig, I would so love to fill in one of those nights he's out (I'm quite confident that I could do a better job than Stryker... though I'd suppose that's a bit like saying that I'm quite confident that I could do a better job as an aerospace engineer than a chimp would).

Friday, December 21, 2007 at 9:58 PM Stryker hasn't been on the last couple nights?? So much to speculate. This being radio and all crazy shit can happen over night. Maybe Stryker already knows he isn't getting resigned for '08. When does Loveline go on Best-of? I would never want Loveline to die but it would be so nice to have Drew with Adam in the morning. It probably will have a slightly different format than classic Loveline. As long as it has the 3 main ingredients. Adam, Drew and callers. —24/7KROQ |

I've always been impressed with Ace's ability to adapt to what he can and can't say. He filths it up on Stern and Rollins, but has yet to draw a fine on morning radio. He's good in most contexts and Drew and Adam have that chemistry that comes out no matter what they're doing together (TACS, Loveline TV, Drew's new show, Loveline, TACP). —bguirk |

I don't think it divides the community--there are people who flat out don't come here but go there. The discussion about the shows relative to the nonsense occurs in a higher ratio there which is nice (not that I don't perpetuate the nonsense myself). someone ask "tedder" what he has against this place. or, were they just someone who couldn't hack it here? I'm not going to start a "why don't you TLC" thread over there. If I had to guess I would say this has been a nice place lately but in the past it has been fairly confrontational and severely annoying. Without going into specifics or naming names the childish shit that has gone on in the past has made me take some time off periodically and there are probably people with a lower tolerance for it than us.
