Can I have a thread called "Catloaf's coworker's butchering of the English language word or phrase of the day?" Seriously. Yesterday she said "rutch." As in, "I rutch in there and grabbed it." Am I even spelling that right? Rutch? Wruch? Today she said "chimley." She was telling me some story about softening oranges by throwing them against the "chimley" and she kept saying it over and over and I was trying SOOOO hard to keep a straight face. Anyway.

spontaneity: The courage to make mistakes.

Spontaneity means that you are not self-conscious, that you are not on your guard for fear of making mistakes. Spontaneity means the COURAGE TO MAKE MISTAKES. In trivial or routine activities no calamity arises if perchance a mistake occurs. This is the reason why realists, that is, men and women of average aspirations go about their daily tasks with due caution and circumspection, it is true, but without any marked fear of making a mistake. Mistakes made in trivial performances are trivial themselves and their possible consequences are just as trivial and not to be feared. With the fear of mistakes largely removed from the mind of the realist his decisions are reached with ease and his actions initiated without undue hesitation. All of this is the result of spontaneity and, in turn, favors its development. - Abraham Low

orthopraxy: correct practice

What's appealing about Buddhism is the fact that, as Reverend Heng Sure, a Buddhist monk, says, while most religions are orthodoxies--that is, they adhere to a system of ideas, of rules, of words--Buddhism is an orthopraxy: it adheres to a set of practices, through which you can come to your own understanding, not one imposed from the outside.

In some sense, I think it's impossible for me to "understand" God--God is beyond understanding. Like Right View, I can have some intimation of God when I begin my spiritual search, but only when I'm "fully enlightened" can I have perfect Right View and a true understanding of God. Who knows? In fact, just holding this "Who knows?" can be a powerful way to work with the God idea. -- Kevin Griffin, One Breath at Time: Buddhism and The Twelve Steps
