Anyone here on Second Life?

Calling All Nerds!!! I've been more and more curious what exactly people do in Second Life, being that it isn't really a game. At least I wouldn't think of it as a game, since I don't know of any actual objective or goal. So I am just not hip or what?

Don't play it myself, but I know a guy at another forum I go to who does. (Incidentally he's a furry. By the way, apparently the furries have a substantial presence in Second Life.) I personally do think of it as a game, but you're right, it doesn't seem to be structured around any goal or storyline or anything like that.

I do know that their in-game currency has apparently been gaining legitimate real-world value (according to this, 270 "Lindens" equal the value of one American dollar).

Clearly you can't read your own posted article. People "explore, meet other people, socialize, participate in individual and group activities, and create and trade items and services."

Create and trade items and services... in a video game?

Sounds like I'm gonna have to get right on that...

any day now...

Well, that does make sense.

Clearly you don't understand my question, but I will explain it again, just for you. Going into a "virtual world" only to meet other non-gamers, do nothing goal oriented, and trade virtual products and services doesn't appear seem to me to be a popular destination. If that is a goal, what makes it better than a chatroom? Drawing huge knockers on your squirrel outfit? Once the novelty wears off, the point of the services/products when they aren't real and can't apparently be translated into anything tangible would decline.
I think the sexual drive of the furries is telling in the use of SL. If they have a such a large population there I think it shows at least 1 reason not necessarily projected by LL.

Being angry with stepmom is no reason to lash out at others ;) Try on this weasel avatar, I'll teach you to love again.

Like Laith said, you can sell the game money (and probably the land) for real cash.

Your question was "what do people do." Apparently what you meant was, "why would anyone want to do that." It doesn't have to be any better than a glorified chatroom for people to want to use it.
