Go check it out.

I live in a suburb about a half hour to forty-give minutes away from Minneapolis, so this really hits home for me. One of my friends [Orange to be exact] was going to go to the Twins game with her family, but they decided they weren't up for it today. You have to go over that bridge to get to the exit to get to the Metrodome. My friend [Chin guy] had driven over it just an hour earlier. My girlfriend's little brother and a friend of her's little brother both had been on it just a few hours earlier, and a friend of mine was babysitting two kids with a dad that worked over there. Cell phone coverage was shot with the lines being just overwhelmed so they were freaked, not being able to get ahold of their dad for about 2 hours.

Glad to hear that everyone you know is alright at least.

That video is crazy but for some reason, I was expecting to see Tacoma Narrows when I saw the name of this thread.

Was Rick Astley reported to have been on the bridge when it collapsed?

wagner777 what the fuk is your post about?
You might just as well have written that you missed being blown up at pearl harbor because you were not born. And luckily for you your Dad was to young to join the Navy.
Also because you never made it as an Astronaut (not enough alcohol) you missed the shuttle explosion
I could go on but you get the point.
As for the bridge - sad, but I never knew any of them and the world is terribly overcrowded

[examples of actual versus perceived risk]

Yeah... but still - I'd cut 'im a little slack.

People aren't the most rational of beasts, and this is news (anyway, it's not like he's some jackass who has lived in Arizona his whole life and whose relatives and friend all live in Arizona but was so traumatized by 9/11 that five years later he couldn't make it through his safety half-hour compulsory safety lecture without tearing up and having to take a moment).

Oh I wasn't stating that I thought I was actually at risk, but I was just stating the facts where I live vs. where it happened. Because a lot of people who don't live in Minnesota [or in other states for that matter, it happens all the time], they hear that something happened in Minneapolis, and automatically think that EVERYONE who lives in Minnesota was at risk. It's like the people calling their family members in upstate New York after 9/11. Hell my aunt called frantically just after it happened, convinced we were all dead or something.

Sucks.
I used to work for the MTA Bridges and Tunnels in NYC. I can't imagine any of those bridges straight up collapsing considering the number of people that are constantly working on those things.
I guess that wasn't the situation here.
Without knowing really anything about these bridges, it's funny how there's an arch bridge standing right next to it in that picture.

tacoma narrows is way better. bridge collapses shouldn't be tainted by the filth that is the mississippi river.

lmfao

Would you use a bridge nicknamed "Galloping Gertie" because of it's visible oscillations?
Actually, I might.

I STILL have yet to cross one of those Indiana Jones-esque bridges with rickety ass planks that some mexicant threw up in a matter of minutes, that ALWAYS seem to break right as the last person is crossing, setting up for a daring, grabbing of the fingertips, then a shot of the rushing water down below, and a big "PHEW! that was close".

That's me^ in the near future
