Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at 7:03 PM There is a part of me that is apprehensive about moving to the other end of the the country. But it's sort of been a dream of mine to live in Cali so overall I guess you can say I'm "stoked". Did I use that right? —Had To Get It On |

This process just started but I can almost feel the inevitability. Kinda scary, but whatev. I think I can adjust to a more laid back atmosphere. Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at 8:14 PM Augh, I've lived here all my life(all 18 little years of it), and I'm sick of that "Yay Area" shit. E40 is the ambassador of the bay like Snoop Dogg is the ambassador of NYC, except minus several levels of excellence. It matters if you're black-cultured, but is utterly irrelevant if you're not. Honestly, the culture is quite different. Every female in a car has her cellphone glued to her ear, and you'd better be of a liberal sentiment. People are generally chill on the roadways, with not a lot of roadrage, and rather cautious lane changes. I really do love the population here, the Asians in particular, and I hope that I will find at least a somewhat similar environment when I head off to USC next year, despite it's reputation to the contrary. So! Basically! San Jose is an awesome mix of the laid-back culture and diversity of LA, with a little smidgen of the liberal thinking from SF dribbling down the peninsula. ...and dude, you would not believe how many Toyota Prius's there are here. —Chrispy |

Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 2:35 AM lol, this thread is funny already. I like how abm is trying to "prep" Had To for moving 3000 miles across the country by telling him which rappers rule the area. It's cute. And mentioning that they have johnny rockets and Cheesecake Factory in San Jose, we have both those in my city, doesn't stop fresno from being the ass of the armpit of california, I can't remember who said that, proly Carolla. It's actually not that bad, I prefer it to the coast, but I don't really enjoy living in a big city, can't wait to move out. but I digress, she's spot on about the west coast rappers, but I think Had To is the last guy we gotta educate on hip hop. I don't really like rap, but I hella like Mac Dre, he was the best, and whats all this I hear about Keek da sneak creating yadida? That's bull, he would wait till Mac Dre dies to take credit for Dre's creation. Now if only my damn city didn't lock him up for 5 years, we woulda had a lot more quality stuff from him, but instead he had to pen his stuff from inside jail, poor guy. Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 11:24 PM Alcohol is my emotional painkiller sometimes. It shuts my head down for a while so I can feel happy and relaxed and in control. Other times, I listen to classical music or go for a walk. Today at work, I was complaining about my grandma telling me she wished I had gotten cancer, when my brother had it, and my friend said that I dwell on things too much. I know I do, sometimes. But I thought about it and I told her on Facebook, "I'm affected in the present by what happened to me in the past." —John Lennon |

Sounds good to me. "I really don't understand why some many people are "california dreaming"...or come to cali to "find themselves"..." I'm not really trying to find myself. I'm trying to enjoy the weather and stack cheddar. "E40 is the ambassador of the bay like Snoop Dogg is the ambassador of NYC" Snoop Dogg isn't from New York. Or is that the point you're trying to make? "Every female in a car has her cellphone glued to her ear, and you'd better be of a liberal sentiment." I drive an SUV and my sound system is loud enough and hits hard enough so that if you were next to me at the light you wouldn't be able to hear the other person on the line. I'm not political and I don't care about other people's sentiments. "San Jose is an awesome mix of the laid-back culture and diversity of LA"
Sweet. If I end up there, it will take some getting used to in the beginning. My style is really east cost. I mean, My hair is permed, I wear Gino Green jeans and Kenzo. "but nothing hits as good as a hip hop song with a sick bass riff"
That's good. I was afraid I would have to compete with some esé and his Tejano music. "I'm moving to da yay area, brotha" Wouldn't that be yrotha? About the food, Cheesecake Factory is ok... but I'm interested in local cuisine. And how far are the fabled vineyards? I wanna get pissy. —Had To Get It On |

Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 3:29 PM do you have a degree in computer science/engineering?" ABM I'm probably will by the time I get out there.- hadtogetiton my sister has her B.S in computer engineering, she worked at Abbott as a software engineer then got layed off due to the 9/11 attacks, then she worked at TYCO and the software dept. was not able to complete thier project, so they layed off all the engineers. So now she can't find a job....
she says that most of her co-workers are from India and China, and they're really mean, unless you're Indian or Chinese. But i think she doesn't really know software that well, and she sucks at programming. Plus she's a bitch so that might be another reason why she can't find a job.

Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 5:56 PM In this industry, it is easier finding a job in software than in hardware. And with the growth of the industry not being what it used to be, I fully understand how tough it can be. To be frank, I'm starting to believe I may have made a poor choice in choosing this field even though the job I have now is good. Or maybe I should say "I don't hate the job I have now". It is mostly in the hardware side. I shouldn't take it for granted but I do. I'm not thrilled about so many engineering types being in the Bay Area. There are companies out there hiring of course.. your sister may have to look very carefully and be willing to move. Harris is a company that comes to mind. It sounds like your sister is experience and has marketable skills. I wouldn't worry. As of right now, I believe this country has the most talented computer engineers. However, when you factor in the compensation difference, American engineers simply are not competitive. India and China have problems with infrastructure, logistics, training, language, etc. But these problems are fading every day. —Had To Get It On |

It's a flawed analogy, but that's what I was goin' for; E40's from the far north bay(Vallejo), which is ghettotastic. He is technically next to the bay, but when you say "Bay Area," Vallejo is seldom included in the term (at least in my experience) San Jose and that North/East bay couldn't be further apart culturally. —Chrispy |

As of right now, I believe this country has the most talented computer engineers. However, when you factor in the compensation difference, American engineers simply are not competitive. India and China have problems with infrastructure, logistics, training, language, etc. But these problems are fading every day. Meh. There are plenty of people in Bangalor and Shanghai who have the training, speak fluent Engrish (and have since gradeschool), who have access to all the infrastructure they'd need to telecommute, and who will work longer, and harder for less money than USians. Somehow (the last I heard) those jobs were actually flowing in the opposite direction ( for various reasons). If you're smart about where you work and live, you can buy 4000 square feet with a pool and a few acres for a little more than half a mil. Plus - you can wear shorts almost anyplace - including the theater and high-end restaurants. ... of course, it is getting pretty damn crowded here and (if you're a moron someone who doesn't do much research, and you buy a cheap house outside of town 'just 15 minutes away from work' - without traffic, you'll end up driving in traffic for an extra couple of hours a day) —anobody |

I just realized that I haven't changed my sheets or cleaned my bathroom since Kim moved out (almost a year ago). ... maybe it's time? —anobody |

Friday, May 18, 2007 at 12:48 AM no...dirty aint the norm dawg. I understand that - it's just that twice a week is as insane as once a year (as you said). BTW - you'll be happy to know that I changed my sheets. I should mark the calendar so I know when to do it again next year. Were you planning on fingering the spinach dip [sickkkkkkk]? Nah. Actually, I try not to even double-dip - including when I'm alone (oddly, if I'm on a date, I'm more likely to be promiscuous with sauces and dips, though). —anobody |

Friday, May 18, 2007 at 1:03 AM did you really just change them? that does make me happy. I'm proud of you. I did, indeed. The new ones might have a blood stain that didn't bleach out from a time when Zona was in heat, but never mind that now. "fingering the spinach dip" [dont google that] is a euphemism for a little move I know, ifyaknawhatahmean!!! Ah. I get your meaning, but when I googled it, I didn't find anything except pictures of people with their finger in spinach dip (nothing remotely sexual at all). Can anyone else absolutely NOT fall asleep while wearing socks I'd have trouble falling asleep wearing anything. —anobody |

Friday, May 18, 2007 at 1:12 AM You sure you guys don't have a swamp cooler and not an A/C? Otherwise, something is seriously wrong with your system (or it's just too small). i bidet, I don't wipe, now let's drop this subject........... Per Adam, I'm planning on getting one of the "smart" toilets when I finally build my house, just for that purpose. See!!! We're not entirely dissimilar, you and I! —anobody |
