(strikerina - lol) This is a true story, a neighbor bought a Jimenez 9mm like mine and he came over so I could help him with it since he has very little gun experience. Since both guns are new, removing the slide can be difficult. Neither one of us could remove the slides from either gun. When my wife got home, partly as a joke, and partly because giving a woman a challenge that they're "not supposed" to be able to do, sometimes yields results, I handed one of them to her. I said to my neighbor how funny it would be if she managed to remove it. I said this and made it all but inevitable for her to show us up because we needed to take the guns apart. Well you know what happened. She had the slides removed in under 30 seconds per gun. Fun stuff. —striker |

Not to break with it, there are two small things I can't help bringing up (don't consider them a response to any specific posts here, just general commentary on the subject). First, if the only difference between the guns in the proposed ban and other unbanned guns were aesthetic, why fight the ban? I mean, if we were just trying to get rid of some scary looking guns to make some anti-gun people feel a little more comfortable, what's the harm? Oh - I know. It's letting the camel's nose into the tent. Slippery slope, and all that. Well then scratch that - lets move on. Second, why would anyone presume that more powerful is intrinsically more dangerous? I know this is a crazy concept, but seriously - think about it. If you've got a 9-mil semi-automatic (that can be fairly easily, even if illegally, converted into a fully automatic, but never mind that now), the bullets don't pack as much punch individually as a .44 Magnum of a .50-cal machine gun bullet or an M61 Vulcan round. *BUT* You can't exactly walk around with a Gatling gun and open fire on a crowd. A single .44 shot packs enough punch - you couldn't exactly hold a fully automatic .44 in your hand, pull the trigger and cut down a crowd with it. But a 9-mil, semi-automatic, that can be easily converted to a fully automatic (such as... oh, I don't know, maybe a MAC-10) with a nice 30 round magazine actually is something with no marksmanship at all can hold in their hand, squeeze the trigger and wave, and cut down a bunch of people with minimum effort and without even a sore wrist when you're done. Unlike, say a .340 Weatherby round in a rifle that a skilled marksman might actually use for hunting elk, but would be just about worthless in the hands of an amateur. —anobody |

We were taking them apart for the PURPOSE of oiling. Oiling first would make it hard to hold on because some is going to run where your had goes. How is oil supposed to make the notch bigger? Hey all admit it, the guns we were taking apart are "entry level" and internal surfaces are not polished and tolerances/fit & finish are not perfect. I'm serious when I say you'd feel better if you quit the complaining and got a gun you could call your own and take shooting. Learning physical knowledge is empowering and fun (something men are SUPPOSED to do naturally). The slide on these particular pistols is tricky to remove because the metal is kinda rough and the notch where the slide disengages from the frame is not visible. It has nothing to do with oil. You missed my point entirely about oil migrating to a surface you're trying to hold onto. —striker |

There's some good handguns for under $150. The Hi Point pistols are kinda ugly, but they work well and only cost $130 ish. [clicky]
