Old people stereotypes

I was discussing with a friend at work my stereotypes of old people as:

Watching C-Span/gardening/quilting/sewing/the ARTS Channel/History Channel AKA "The 'Remember' Channel"/Lawrence Welk/Guy Lombardo.

I also came up with the theory that they sit around doing these things while listening to "big band" music and waiting for osteoporosis to set in.

Think of some others and post them.

Well that's why I didn't include knitting.

And I tried to send you an email but it came back saying your email address was down or something?

News to me.
I got my regular delivery of nonsense.
While you were posting this, oddly enough I was researching quilt making. I am a big fan of knitting, cooking and sewing. I figured quilt making was a fun new thing I could learn this year. And I adore Francis Sinatra. Ring a ding ding.

I save my nonsense for this forum.

I knew a lot of girls from Minnesota that I used to go to college with that had like a knitting club, they would get together and make scarves and stuff. At least I guess that's what they did, I never went to their meetings.

I had to do needlepoint (I think that's what you call the stuff with the patterns that you have to sew onto a square with holes in it) when I was in 5th grade, for this goofy project about "Colonial times" or "olden times" or something, it was such a load of crap and so goddamn boring, I got an extension from the teacher over Christmas to finish it up, god I didn't (don't) like 4th grade - present. Things just got/get harder.

I never thought an old people stereotype was watching the news (c-span, history channel). Plus, gardening would hurt their backs. I guess they drive slowly and watch Matlock and then go to bed at 7pm.

Keifer's Dad. You can see where he gets his looks from.

Great song, too.

No no Mandee, don't you know they "steer slowly" (their scooters down to the grocery store) and go to bed when the sun sets. Oh yes, and they wear big Sally Jessy Raphael style glasses and complain about everything, and use anachronisms like "fiddlesticks", "gee willikers", "my stars", and "land sakes".

Spanglemaker, good song/video and I just sent you an email.

Think of some others and post them.

Quite a few times, Adam has said that it's not a great idea to make fun of something you're going to become some day (assuming you live that long).

I think he's got a point.

doing these things while listening to "big band" music

I've been listening to "big band" music since I was a teenager. I would join and play in a big band now if I had the time. I'm going to go see a big band next week (Dave Holland) and another one in a couple of months (Wynton Marsalis) and for the most part there are no old people in those bands depending on your definition of old.

I'm a C-span junkie and i have quite a nice garden every spring/summer..., i also drive the speed limit or just under, and drink coffee all day and with meals, even at restaurants. but I'm getting old, I'll be 30 in July.
