It's neither, it's actually rum. Jack Daniels/Evan Williams/Jim Beam are types of whiskey. Grey Goose/Beldevere/Smirnoff/Popov (the best, lol) are types of vodka.

I;m pretty sure it's by fermenting different types of crops, like wheat for beer, grapes for wine and other types of fruits and vegetables. I've always wondered if you could make your own brand of alcohol by fermenting exotic fruits like Kiwi and Guava.

I saw even wood pulp on the possible ingrediant list. Ew. whiskey: a grain alcohol I believe. beer: water, hops, barley (malted), and yeast is the tradtional ingrediants and the only thing you can use by law in Germany. Crappy macro-brewers like Bud substitute rice for barley. Bad times. rum: fermented sugar cane--made from the bi-product of refining sugar (molasses I think?). Started after Columbus came back home. The wife and I went to a brandy distillery on our honeymoon and tasted about 10 of their creations (getting drunk in the process. They mmade grappa (gape stems), apple and pear brandy, and blackberry liqueur. I had some great grappa in Venice. The grappa tastes like I'm pouring gas into my mouth.
