Friday, December 8, 2006 at 12:39 AM I dont want to argue with you as I believe in what you are saying - How about we just consider legalising the slaying of assholes - those gangsta's and dopeheads who make the streets so unpleasant - the criminal underclass who fuck everybody over and make life a mess for so many, they should get a pass to just kill each other. I have on occasion looked at buying a place in Las Vegas to use as a holiday home (letting it out the rest of the time) then I started digging deeper and was shocked at the amount of murder that happens in Vegas (mostly with guns dear striker) I doubt that the amount of people killed in the whole of the UK would even match Vegas - America is awash with Guns, Drugs and Gangs - the lastest problem in Vegas being the 12 - 18 year olds who show no allegince to just one gang but are 'Hybrids' they are considered more dangerous and more likely to just shoot you as they are intent on outdoing each other 'putting in the time'! It's fucked up - We do have this sort of thing in the UK on a much much much smaller scale and only in a few cities but America is a fucked up society and whilst I love to visit the US, I don't for a minute think I would be doing my kids any kind of favour letting them live amongst the madness, guns and drugs that is the USA. Serious question: Do you as Americans feel safe in all parts of your hometown or city at all times of day or night? —AceRockollaisAce |

Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 11:19 AM about 90% safe in Louisville [cue dualing banjos] Its not the hype its things like this: http://www.lvmpd.com/news/index.html that kind of put me off. Those are incidents from the LVPD which serves the Las Vegas Metro area or Clark County. The population is about 1.7 million people. By my count, there are fewer than 10 press releases listed on that site in an average month (many of those are accidents, but ignore that for now). By my count that's .00000059 incidents per person per month, or .0000071 reports per person per year. That means that if you live in today's Las Vegas for your entire life (~77 years for the average American), you'd expect to have about .0005 reports over the course of your life. Your family is what? 5 people? If all of them lived in today's Las Vegas for their entire life, you'd expect .003 incident reports among them. Again, that's including traffic accidents (I never like that word), and assuming that murderdeathkills just randomly hit people (I'm guessing that some people are at a much higher risk and others are at a much lower risk). The more positive things you guys are writing are great news. Just one more question where does gunboy (striker) live - that is one place I wish to avoid. I believe he lives in Utah (you don't want to go there anyway). There's a slight (though nonzero) chance that he has a second house in Mesa, AZ. Other than missing out on being graced by rAnCID's, gourunga's (sp?) and my presence, ruling out Arizona just to be safe won't hurt you too much. Now, if you're seriously considering Vegas - have you been there during the summer? This is important because, like Phoenix, every year 5-10 dogs burst into flames while playing outside.

and plug a and b into this
btw you can use that to do a parabola? Yep. The graph of any nontrivial quadratic of the form y=a*x^2+b*x+c is a parabola, and, more generally, the solution of any quadratic polynomial P(x,y) = 0 is a conic section. If you know matrices, this might help. —anobody |
