—mandeemoo22

next fall, probably on campus. Most of my friends will be attending CSU Sac..so i have to see if chico is close to sacramento. If it is i'll probably move in with them since they'll be living in a rented house or apt.

I also applied to CSU Stanislaus, which is 20 minutes away from where I live. The thing is that Stan state do not offer an "on the spot admissions"..and since i fucked up on my application (put down that i'll be a lower division transfer) i dont know if i'll get accepted.

I'll just keep on submitting my JC transcrpit so they'll see that i have completed 60 units.

I'd give the opposite advice. Unless you want to get an MBA or something that you can get a company to pay for, I say just go straight through. Once you get a good job and a mortgage, it's pretty hard to go back to student wages.

... of course, you could always get a shitty low-paying job, suffer through it for a year and then run as screaming back to school.

I'm double majoring in english and creative writing and i'm minoring in social justice/policy. I'd love to be able to combine all of that into my future career, but I mean, you know what they say about english majors. Oh, and if you were wondering who my advisor is for social justice/policy, it's Anita Hill. I've only met with her once and it was just to declare my minor. I want to hang out with her. I have to declare my major next semester and even though I've known what I want it to be for so long, it's still scary. Plus, I can change it whenever I want anyway. My regular academic advisor is such a perfect hot gay man. They all are though, right?

My dream job used to always be to develop my own television show, but now, I feel like I'd love to have my own weekly column in a newspaper a la Carrie Bradshaw because that leads to book deals etc. Plus, I could really write about whatever I wanted and stuff. It would be almost like a livejournal, but better. Everyone at my school already reads that anyway. It's actually almost creepy.

Mandee--I know you're just a sophomore, but take a serious look at USC's professional writing program, maybe over the summer. I think UCLA has something similar. USC is expensive, but you've got great writers there (TC Boyle is at the school--not in that program though), but it's sort of right the alley you're talking about. I wouldn't wait to get into that one. I'd also find out who wrote The Broke Diaries, listen to her on Fresh Air 4-5 months ago, and then try to mimic her career track. She's a writer on Scrubs now.

I was thinking about trying to get an internship in LA over the summer, so if I do, I can look at that while I'm there and check it out more. That does sound pretty good though, bguirk. Thanks. My current writing workshop professor is such a great writer and he's so smart and funny and he wrote the book The Object of My Affection, which isn't a great movie, but it's a great book. The people who created Friends went here and there are always so many people talking about how great the Brandeis writing program is, but I feel like I'd like to go somewhere else if I choose to go to grad school. I feel like I could get good recommendations too.

It's definitely better to go somewhere else for grad school if do you go. West coast would good (maybe something international would be worth looking into too - at least if you have any interest in traveling).

I've never been to USC (although I just applied to the Keck medical school there), but the area immediately surrounding UCLA isn't bad at all (Westwood and Beverly Hills).

I don't kiss the future like the fortune tellers do
so i can't dream with you at night
pessimism's hunger changes everything
i wish i walked with faith and not by sight

but
you know with anything you do
there's a hundred people bringing you down
no matter who you are
don't let 'em make you cuz they'll break you
don't let 'em love you cuz they'll hate you even more

so if no-one else believes in you
i'm completely yours
i've got so much faith in you
no matter what this life puts in front of you
you can save this world
i've got so much faith in you

anyone who knows you sees the renaissance in you
and i have to try and act surprised
I'm a prime demotivator says my point of view
i wish i had some cheer to lead you to

but
no matter how much good you do
there's a million people wishing you harm
i'm telling you
no matter who you are
don't let 'em make you cuz they'll break you
don't let 'em love you cuz they'll hate you even more

so if no-one else believes in you
i'm completely yours
i've got so much faith in you
no matter what this life puts in front of you
you can save this world
i've got so much faith in you

there's a million things that i could say to you
don't let them change you inside
cuz anyone who matters
will try to understand who you are

if no-one else believes in you
i'm completely yours
i've got so much faith in you
no matter what this life puts in front of you
you can save this world
i've got so much faith in you
