What does everyone here do for work?

I work in a restaurant 6 days a week. I am just wondering what everyone else does for a job. I take it by his posts Striker is a mercenary or a professional misogynist. ARiA apparently works in a social center or something of that nature?

Also, do you keep going to work because you like your job, or because you like the people you work with?

Up through this Friday, I'm a TV News Producer. After that, I will be a Loss Prevention Specialist at Lowes. I'm keeping an open mind about the new job, but I think it's safe to say I'd like to win the lottery and not work at all.

That's quite a change, Mayonnaise.

There were already a few threads on this subject Drake, but since they were before your time, not a huge deal.

"Right now" I'm a 'graduate research associate' doing biophysics research and (slowly) writing papers on it. I'm working on a few possibilities to try to figure out what I actually want to do in the long run (and I have no idea what that would be; that's not totally true - I think I'd like to do some kind of talk radio, I'm just not certain how long it'll take before I can do a passible job of it).

I aint no masseuse.

anobody = professional student = ever learning and never coming to a knowledge of the truth.

"I'm a 'graduate research associate' doing biophysics research and (slowly) writing papers on it."

"to try to figure out what I actually want to do in the long run (and I have no idea what that would be; that's not totally true - I think I'd like to do some kind of talk radio,"

THAT is why professional students are not all that intelligent. They spend decades in school and as ano said "have no idea" what they want to DO. Oh wait, to top it off they come up with SOMETHING they want to do that has NOTHING to do with their decades of "education." All that to go into talk radio. Talk about stupid. To be in talk radio you have to be ENTERTAINING anobody. You talk like you're writing a fucking term paper, you take both sides of almost everything, and your average post size takes up 1.5 screen heights. Talk radio

And another piece of the puzzle explains ano's long winded posts.

Had To Get It On

+

Sunday, November 5, 2006 at 11:34 AM

I've been working as a temporary programmer for the past 6 months for a small company that designs accelerators for embedded applications implemented in custom integrated circuits.
Someone will want to speed up some software like image processing and communications. Engineers profile the code and move the compute intensive tasks over to hardware. Software engineers write the device drivers and libraries to use the custom hardware. I basically modify/speed up application code by using the custom hardware via library calls instead of slower software routines and write example application code that uses the newly designed custom logic. That process usually turns up some nontrivial hardware bugs, library bugs and API documentation<->device driver function mismatches which have to be communicated back to designers.
The current projects I'm working on use Xilinx Virtex-II Pro and Xilinx Virtex-4 FPGAs.
So what do I actually do all day? Read hardware reverence manuals, source code, API documentation and write things like:

// Register the external interrupt handler in
// the exeception vector table
XExc_RegisterHandler(XEXC_ID_NON_CRITICAL_INT,
(XExceptionHandler)XIntc_DeviceInterruptHandler,
(void *)XPAR_OPB_INTC_0_DEVICE_ID);

When I have a job, I will keep going back because I wasted 4 years of my life on turning it into a career and it pays enough to live comfortably, not because I enjoy any aspect of it.

Sunday, November 5, 2006 at 3:16 PM

I went to a four-year college. Due to my depression, I failed a few classes. I would just stay in bed and not go to class. It was a struggle to get up and even take a shower. I wish more of my classes had a "certain # of absences = failure" option. My soc. class had that, and that's what made me go. I liked the class, too, but knowing in the back of my mind that if I didn't at least go to class I was going to get an F made me shake my ass. The last semester I had at Drake, I got depressed because I was studying, I was going to classes, and I would still get Cs and Ds on the tests. The effort I was making wasn't showing up in terms of grades. I went to see one of my professors and go over the tests I did badly on with him, and he just gave them to me and went back to his computer. He didn't care, he didn't offer to show me where I went wrong and the tests didn't have marked on them what the right answer was. So I was just given information I already knew that I got wrong, and no assistance to see how I could improve or why my answers were wrong. I walked out of his office unimpressed and upset. I put myself out there, I set up the appointment to come see him and get help BECAUSE I cared about the class. If I didn't care, I wouldn't have made the effort to go see him.

Now I don't know what I'm supposed to do, every time I remember that I get angry. I deserved help. I paid to take his class. I paid to learn.

Not that ano needs my help, but before you start teeing off on people try answering the question yourself. I doubt you do anything of consequence. Just because he admits ambivalence about his occupational future doesn't mean ano is an idiot. Witness the thread Lefty started the other day. At least he doesn't feel the need to affect some macho gun nut faccade in an internet forum of all fucking places.

// Register the external interrupt handler in
// the exeception vector table
XExc_RegisterHandler(XEXC_ID_NON_CRITICAL_INT,
(XExceptionHandler)XIntc_DeviceInterruptHandler,
(void *)XPAR_OPB_INTC_0_DEVICE_ID);

Glad to see you comment your code--you're going to be fine. My only other piece of unsolicited advice is to make sure you're doing something in your job to secure your non-coding future. If you're a normal human being (and it seems like you are) you will burn out on coding. Maybe if they pay for grad school for you take a different focus than CS or CE--I hate to say MBA, but something in that direction might mean a happier future.

It is quite a change Ano, but unfortunately I chose to start my career at my hometown TV station under the assumption I would be able to make a living once I paid my dues. Well, my first contract expired last year and I've not gotten so much as a hint at getting a new one, let alone any kind of raise. And why would they? They know they can keep hiring and training kids right out of college like I was and pay them nothing. I've got no leverage. The good news is this will free me up to begin making occasional radio appearances again. In fact, I plan on appearing this Friday around 8:00am EST. You can listen at WKKX.com.

<<<<"thankyou, I took six months off last year to study the blacks in their natural habitat, some call me a jane goodall of sorts"

The "men" in this society are such fucking cowards. God damn fucking cowards. They know they're weak and gutless which is why they let females say stuff like that which they don't have the NADS to say. The "men" in this society are very protective of their cowardly "safe" position too. Anytime a male tries to say what rr just said, they A. feel threatened because that male just showed what cowards they are, and B. they gang up like bigger cowards and attack that male and call him a "racist."

The silence from you gutless female suck ups proves my point better than I could EVER do. You alleged "men" don't have the courage to be consistent. You just don't have it. Well I do. What the empty headed female said was funny, correct, and you "men" WISH you had the courage to A. admit it, or B. much less say it instead of using females as your surrogates to say what you don't have the balls to say because you're scared of the group. Cowardly worthless "men," you're so gutless you make the empty headed females, who don't know how ANYTHING actually works, look smart, and that's nothing to be proud of.

rr essentially said:

blacks = animals
blacks = appearance of gorillas
blacks = any other animal that documentaries study
blacks = behavior of gorillas
blacks = uncivilized
blacks = thieves
blacks = not human

rr = correct in all of the above as long as we're talking about black males (and some females) aged 14-30.

All of you who have jumped on me/disparaged me for being "racist," eat shit motherfuckers! Eat SHIT mothersodomizers. Make your mom lick the shit off your cock then french kiss her like you normally do you cowards.

Hey fucktard it's the middle of the goddamn day. Are you at work? Nice way to deflect a direct question, but you still haven't answered shit about what you do that gives you the right to pronounce judgement on others so fuck off until you answer it pussy. The more you avoid it the more shame you show about what you're up to.

As for dumping years of school for something else--most people make the decision to do the extended school thing in their early 20's--does it really make them idiotic for someone in their 30's to have some ambivalence about a decision they made back then? I had earrings and a pony-tail in my early 20's. It's not a look I sport now. Guess I'm an idiot for abandoning years of hair growth for a more acceptable image that probably has landed me more jobs and not sticking to a grunge stoner/slacker look. I'll start growing my hair out today so I can be a man in your eyes.

All of you who have jumped on me/disparaged me for being "racist," eat shit motherfuckers!
I used to pounce on everyone who dropped an N-bomb in here. I got really tired of being the PC police though and gave it up. I used to say at the time "I bet you wouldn't pull that shit if a black person hung out in the forum or around one in real life." Amazingly HTGIO showed up and 95% of the overtly racist shit stopped. Point proven and I'd rather let the idiocy of that shit speak for itself than come running to the aid of minorities everywhere when they're perfectly capable of doing it themselves. Just because I don't scream "racist racist!" every time you post something inflammatory (that I probably didn't read anyway) doesn't mean you (or someone else doing the same thing) isn't one. We're all at least a little racist BTW.

BG makes a good point.

All of you who have jumped on me/disparaged me for being "racist," eat shit motherfuckers! Eat SHIT mothersodomizers. Make your mom lick the shit off your cock then french kiss her like you normally do you cowards.

One small difference. She's not racist. She doesn't post animated 'jigaboo' cartoons on a regular basis. She doesn't actually believe that stuff and just said it for comical effect.

Maybe you're just trying to be provocative and troll (hell - maybe you are, in fact, Tyrone :-O ), but whatever the reason, you've set yourself up to appear racist (not that I'd waste any more time arguing with you about that, whatever the case is; like BG - I don't go around screaming 'racist!' when you post your nonsense).

I thought it had already been established that I'm the most racist person on this board.

We just let you think that. If you pulled an Eddie Murphy and showed up in whiteface one day, you'd see the horrible sinister truth that we're all ashamed of.

I specifically told him what I wanted to come in and discuss with him in the email. He agreed. I'm just saying.

Dusty already hit but it's something that really pisses me off so I can't pass it up. People are always getting angry because they assume somebody knows something they might not.

He just shoved them at me and went back to his computer.

When I read that, I couldn't help but think about what the grounded reality is behind it.

ever learning and never coming to a knowledge of the truth

I hate to reply but since BG's doing it anyway... I just want to say that I love the idea that 'coming to a knowledge of the truth' is something you can do without learning.

Part of the reason you *think* you know so much is because you know so little. The only true knowledge is knowing that you know nothing. I think Neo said that (or was it that Freaked guy?).

Whatever I end up doing, I assure you my education wasn't wasted. The problem is that you see education as a means to an end. You put in some time, get a piece of paper, and then cash in with it in 4 years. You're like Tyrone.

For me, learning is a life-long passion. If I was independently wealthy, then even after doing two chicks at the same time, I'd keep taking classes and collecting alphabet soup after my name. My ideal career would give me enough time and money to keep studying.

Even if I ended up not having that freedom, I'd still spend a big chunk of my free time learning.

It's what I do.

No need for whiteface, he can merely poke around in TLC archives to do that.

The problem is that you see education as a means to an end.

I think this is a common misconception that people have about PhD's. It's as if a earning a PhD in econ will somehow give you all the knowledge about econ that everyone in the world has. I work and socialize with PhD's and I can assure you this isn't the case. If it were the then why do they bother handing out Nobel Prizes. If anything graduate study just socializes you into the questions being asked about your subject and points you in the direction you want to go. I'm not expecting to graduate with some finite amount of knowledge.

Nah, my hands are lovers not fighters.

Security guard?

I'm just busting your balls, I don't really care what you do for a living. Hey, can you call up the hot chicks into your office and perform a strip search on them? Can't you tell them to undress, bend over and grab their ankles and mind their own business? Otherwise, this job sounds lame.

By those standards I guess it is lame.

I wrapped up my TV career this morning and immediately went to my friend's radio station and got myself back on the air(the TV job had forced me to stop about a year ago.). It was nice to be back, but it was my first time there since the FCC really cracked down. Apparently I can no longer say "beating off" during morning drive time. Go figure.

And here, ladies and gentlemen, we see one of the many differences between a grown-up and Theo.

I meant that Theo gave up his paid radio job, to focus on his cable access (read: UNpaid, and broadcast on airtime that he had to pay for) television show hobby because the radio station manager objected to some of the content in his 'hobby,' and simply asked him to make some minor adjustments.

Are you talking about the Theo or Theo in this case the teenage Billy from TACS?

Either way, I'm so confused.

I was talking about Theo. Billy Moses, though a piece of shit, committed most of his dumbassedness where I didn't have to witness it...and he also has no children....but still...what a fat little foppish turd.

Oh duh. The children should have clued me in.

Theo had a radio show? WTF? This is the first I've heard of that.

It wasn't his own show; he was a lackey.

How COULD you have been clued in by the "children?" I hadn't mentioned kids in the first post on the subject. You really are one weird dude, analface.

When I read your previous post, I just assumed that you mentioned the children in the first post (and didn't bother looking).

*edit* Dusty - I notice you accidently left my name off of the list. Minor oversight, of course. No big deal.

This may be true. The committee is going to have to reconvene and make an announcement. You'll know we're ready when the smoke changes from black to grey.

discrimination - recognition or understanding of the difference between one thing and another; the ability to discern what is of high quality; good judgement or taste.
