Friday, November 3, 2006 at 4:46 AM When romance takes a turn for the worst, many young adults turn their radios to "Loveline"—and very soon the Sacramento State community can do the same. Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of the internationally syndicated show, will make an appearance on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the University Union Ballroom. "Loveline" with Pinsky has been on the airwaves since 1984 and is broadcast in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The show helps young adults who call in with relationship, sexuality and drug addiction issues. Pinsky, known as Dr. Drew on the radio show, is a practicing internist and addiction specialist with training in psychology. His campus appearance will follow the question-and-answer format of the radio show, where he will take a variety of questions from audience members. The event, sponsored by Sacramento State's University Union UNIQUE Programs, is free of charge. For more information, contact UNIQUE Programs at (916) 278-6744. For media assistance, contact the Public Affairs office at (916) 278-6156. —Elvis-In-ZT |

Friday, November 3, 2006 at 8:31 AM I just think it's funny that people would steal signs about it. Must be a lot of rabid Dr. Drew fans needing a fix of the good Doctor's good looks to masturbate to. —drakeguy19 |

Mine as well. Let's keep an eye out for it, shall we? Nathaniel just informed me that it happened to him when Drew came to Syracuse. I can't believe I've actually started calling him Nathaniel. The virus is spreading. It can't be stopped. In all my years as a biophysicist, I've never seen a virus reproduce this fast. —TortillaFactory |

Sunday, November 5, 2006 at 4:00 PM Free admission to Dr. Drew discussion 'Loveline' host returns to campus after five years Hornet Staff The State Hornet November 01, 2006 Students will not have to pay to see the Dr. Drew Pinsky lecture at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 16 in the University Union Ballroom, a University Union associate director said. Dean Sorensen said UNIQUE Programs dropped the cost because of concerns that students weren’t aware of the upcoming discussion by the host of “Loveline.” He also said that some of the promotional signs have been stolen. "Loveline" airs from 10 p.m. to midnight from Sunday to the Thursday on KZZO 100.5 FM. A crowd of around 600 attendees came to the 90-minute speech the last time Dr. Drew visited campus in the fall of 2001. Dr. Drew addressed everything from female orgasms to the effects of marijuana on the brain. The show began with Dr. Drew explaining how he became known as the doctor of the nationally syndicated radio call-in show. Dr. Drew said it began in 1983 when, as a third-year medical student, a radio station approached him about being on a community service program, titled "Ask a Surgeon," that ran from midnight to 3 a.m. He had no clue what he was getting himself into, but it was a decision that has worked out to be a favorable one, he told the audience. Dr. Drew said that although both men and women call into "Loveline," most questions are about men. Men, Dr. Drew said, typically call in to ask for tips on how to last longer in bed, whereas women call in to ask why men do not want to cuddle after sex. Some were hesitant at the start to ask personal questions. The crowd soon warmed up, however, and audience members opened up. Dr. Drew said there are three types of college relationships: hooking up, friends-with-benefits and joined-at-the-hip. He suggested that people take the time to get to know each other away from school before jumping into one of the above three phases. Another issue Dr. Drew focused on was the orgasm. A male can have an orgasm as long as his spinal cord is attached, he said. Women, on the other hand, need a physical and emotional attachment. Women 22 and under, said Dr. Drew, rarely experience an orgasm during sex, and some never do. Hornet Staff can be reached at news@statehornet.com —Elvis-In-ZT |

Sunday, November 5, 2006 at 4:04 PM Edited Sunday, November 5, 2006 at 4:07 PM Drew (supposedly): "women call in to ask why men do not want to cuddle after sex." In all the years I've listened to Loveline, I don't think I've ever heard a call where a woman asked why men don't want to cuddle after sex. I think Drew kind of has rose-colored glasses when it comes to how emotionally evolved women are compared to men. On average, I'd say it's true -- women are more emotionally evolved than men. But I don't think the "effect size" is anywhere near as large as he would have us believe. —Elvis-In-ZT |

Sunday, November 5, 2006 at 6:17 PM I'm trying to figure out some way to get Dr. Drew to come to my school. The only means of getting him here is through the GLBT group and I'm sure I could get co-sponsorship with the Student Sexuality Information Service, but I'd have to make sure he talked about GLBT issues. —mandeemoo22 |
