My first day was August 21. Junior college. What I laugh at about it is that the Student Store sells car rear window clings with the full name of the community--how dare me, JUNIOR--college on them. I imagine they're a BIG seller, along with the hats and the sweatshirts. I actually saw a woman's thong on the sidewalk the next week of class. Unfortunately there were no women around so I probably wasn't the cause of it leaving her body.

how about this.
let's cut out welfare and social security and make higher education* and healthcare mostly free*.
this way, if you can't make it with free education and health care, you're an idiot and deserve to die in the gutter.

* - nope, we won't pay for pregnancy. you want a kid, you pay for it completely. once he/she starts school, that's when the free health care kicks in.
we will however pay for an abortion if you want one. we're keeping the fetus for stem cell stuff.
yep, we'll pay for your college education, but you're going to have to make it in a state university caliber, government approved school.
we're not paying for you to learn how to make bongs and hash pipes and take smoke breaks with your teacher, who everyone refers to as rick. if you can't cut it at a real school, you're going to work.
but hey, at least you have the free healthcare. your company should be able to pay you more since they don't have to worry about offering health insurance. you can take that extra money and buy american made stuff with sales tax on it.
damn, this shit is so simple!

Laith and Liz attend the same college? Awwww.... and then when laith runs for president of the U.S, Liz can be the first lady.

anyways here's what going on with my junior college experience.

Parking is getting better, since all those motivated people dropped out.

my geology class is kinda fun, there's gonna be a lot of field trips. One includes a 5 day camping trip in the Sierra Nevada. This is my chance to lose my virginity!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lab sucks though, all we do is look at rocks. Did you know that rocks have cleavages?

English 103 blows. My prof. is 80 years old, I swear, it takes him 20 minutes to take roll. He gave everybody an F on an essay, and said we did great.

Math 70 is a review of pre-algebra; so far, it's easy. I hope it stays that way.

my online American politics class is fun. I love arguing back and forth over foreign policy with my classmates. I took a quiz and got a 100%. I realized if I read the textbook, i'll understand what's going on.

My prof. made us lick a rock to know if it was the salty type.

I still can't believe that there's so many type of rocks out there.

There's the luster which is the look of it, cleavage to see if it has a 90 degree or not, fracture, hardness, streak.

now you're using the ol' greymatters.

not only was the bible written by men, but middle eastern at that.
this has always perplexed me. whitey can't stand the middle eastern nutjobs, yet they swallowed a version of their religion hook, line and sinker. whitey tricked the brother man into following their american jesus when they brought slaves over here and as a result, we have millions of black people following the white, american god.

why the fuck are african americans following whitey's god that was originally dreamed up by a bunch of middle eastern guys who sacrificed animals and had 2 or 3 wives at a time??? wtf???
it's just so silly i have to laugh every time i think about it.

It's your senior year right? What are your plans after high school, JC or 4 year?

I remember my senior year in HS, it was so easy, and boring. I was a T.A. for one of my teachers, and she would let me grade all the tests without checking them afterwards; so i would end up passing all my friends who were in that class. The only thing that sucked was that stupid exit exam. The state of CA required this new test that was much more complex than the other original one. I ended up failing math, and i had to take a review class after school, and then when i finally passed it, those bastards made up thier minds and waived it. I think starting with the class of 2006, they have to take it in order to graduate.

Graduation sucked though, my stupid cap kept falling off, and i didnt go to any of the graduation parties. My parents didn't even throw one for me, because my GPA was only a 2.5. Nothing to be proud of.

Don't take your education for granted chix, there's people out there who could only wish to attend a prestigious university. You're almost done with school, and you'll have a great job that does not require hard labor. It's true that lots of people have a good life despite not going to college, but if the choice is between JC and a 4 year, it seems like a no brainer.

Anyway, if you don't want to teach and hate school, you could always drop out, chix0r.

Eh, I just think as someone who hates interacting with people and dislikes being inventive, thinking creatively or solving problems, teaching was a weird choice. Yes, I'm glad I'm not Hispanic and picking fruit somewhere, but a cubicle job probably would've suited me better.

Also, if JC is going to cost you $40k less for the same quality classes, I don't see what the big deal is with transferring out. Lots of people who suck go there blah blah blah, but it's not a completely useless institution.

I'm too stubborn to drop out. It's not like school's a challenge, or teaching is likely to be. I'm just going to hate it. It's cool, I'm resigned. And bitter, maybe just a little bitter.

I'm terrified to graduate from college. I can't imagine just starting a job out of highschool and being thrown into the "real world". This summer, I was planning on living away from home and maybe getting an internship in New York or Los Angeles or even going Israel or another country overseas to work and even the idea of not seeing my mommy at all is scary as shit. I know I don't see her while I'm at school, but it kind of feels sometimes like I'm at camp since I'm with all of my friends, so I don't get homesick much.

I hope that doesn't mean that you're dating someone who's already in college when you're just a junior.

chix0r - if you're bitter already and are gonna hate teaching, you should really try to figure out something else while you're young. You don't wanna be 40 or 50, hating your job and your life and regretting that you didn't take a few years when you were younger to put yourself in a job you'll actually enjoy.

if JC is going to cost you $40k less for the same quality classes, I don't see what the big deal is with transferring out

Two problems with that premise. First, $40k less than what, a year at a private school? That brings me to the second - if so, I find it difficult to believe that the classes at JC are the same quality (I wouldn't even buy that for most state schools).

Unless he's going to be a principal that's going to take quite awhile.

Check your math. Unless you're switching into Harvard that's not quite right. If you're like the typical JC fairy tale you're likely transferring into a state school and the price is somewhere around 2/3's more at the University. It's actually a good plan if you're planning on going into a crappy state school like the one I graduated from. If you're going to do your last two years at a good state school like UW or some of the CA schools it's a bad plan. You kind of need to get socialized into your major where they take that stuff seriously. Psych 101 is a different flavor depedning on where you take it.

In South Asia there is a lot of taboo about nudity. It's a big deal for a famous actress to show her bare back in a film.
In Australia and other European countries, there are plenty of films with naked women that aren't classified as pornography.
In Australia and other European countries, every kind of piercing except ear piercing (and even then only the lobe) carries the stigma/attraction of excitement and rebelliousness.
Yet in South Asia, prime time news reporters will have nose rings.

So which culture is more conservative?

There's a bit of Cultural Triangulation there for you, if you want to do it. You don't even have to bother with disregarding the concept of a homogenous culture on any lines, be they ethnic or geographic. You get the same answer either way.
