Adam's Show Grinding To A Halt

I was so glad to get the show back after two and a half weeks, but Tuesday's was a big waste of time. Re-hashing the boring non-event Ann Coulter thing 3 times, listening to a Crank Yankers clip for no apparent reason, even Jimmy's call was not very good, especially with his raspy voice. Teresa continues to get worse, trying to be funny and coming off looking like the idiot she is, trying to make a joke when they were talking about the Rolling Stones, and saying "Keith Wood." No Teresa, it is Keith Richards, Ron Wood. She has 2-3 of these airhead moments every day. I wish she would just shut up. They get someone on the show to imitate Jack Silver, who most of the listeners don't even know. He has been on the show a couple times and is interesting and funny. Whoever was imitating him was not even close to how he sounds and not funny at all, but everyone on the show roared everytime he said anything. Same with deaf frat guy. He can say the same exact line he has said a hundred times before and they all roll on the floor with laughter. Soon they will just be doing the whole show for themselves, and it is just as well because that will be the only people listening anyway. Do they even realize they are on the radio and not television when, for the umpteenth time they get some porn stars to remove their tops in the studio? Do they think it is exciting for us, when it is fucking RADIO? How many times did Adam castigate Drew for doing "bad radio," for making some hand gesture no one could see or bringing out some medical book no one could look at? But Adam has no problem doing the same kind of crap every day. I pray they cancel the show and Adam goes back to Loveline.

Didn't you ever listen to Loveline?

I mean, I know that, over the years, bits came and went but day-to-day, he'd rehash a lot of the same bits.

Although many of his rants and stories were one-offs on Loveline, he also rehashed and reworked them frequently.

Keep in mind that a large chunk of a morning show's audience listens for something like ~15 minutes a day so everything is geared toward them.

If they just recorded an hour and replayed it a few times on a loop, it'd be a bit more repetitive but most listeners probably wouldn't notice.

Considering that they've gotta fill about 2.5 hours a day, 5 days a week (that's more than a day every other week) with (semi) original material, I think he does a decent job.

Having said that, the repetition does suck if you want to try to be a dedicated listener and hear a show in its entirety, never mind listening on a daily basis. How many times do the hit (nearly) the same news and sports every show?

so stop listening. Anobody's right about Adam rehashing stories and rants all the time in his Loveline days too. Although I do agree with you that it's really stupid they they keep bringing pornstars and playboy bunnies into the studio considering there's no visual element in radio. I only listen to the show when I'm at work or doing other stuff, I only listen while I'm trying to focus on something else so maybe I tune out a lot of crap or boring stuff. If the show is put to death I don't think Adam would consider returning to loveline.

Its his timing. Deaf Frat guy i mean. He can definitley be hilarious sometimes....

Like when they had him to give people love advice...all of his answers involved a potatoe gun. Adam was practically pissing his pants with delight and i too at times was cracking up...

Caller: Hey, Deaf, my girl and i have been together a long time and i love her dearly but lately.....she just hasnt been showing me the same attention she used to...

DFG: Ok what you want to do is get a good Pam product. A spray on lubricant....I find that pam is the best but some people prefer lesser brands. When you get to the fruits and vegetables isle....dont just take the first thing you see. Feel around a little bit, ya know??
Once youve got about 5 or 6 reallly solid good round potatoes, make sure you load them correctly. You dont want to hurt her too badly but you defnitly want her to get the message that she hasnt been there for you lately.

I would say after she is grazed by 2 or 3 potatoes she will come around...good luck man.

TACS is trying to tap in to Howard Stern's old terrestial niche.
Which consisted of, a naked chick, a giggling side kick syncophant, and a few other college age dudes, making comments. Check.
The Ann Coulter bit, I have a feeling will go on way past it's prime, which was 2 days after the actual incident.
DFG, for the love of all that is good, I laugh at everything all day, but this leaves me straight-faced.
All the best material I have heard on the show, are the bits AC did on LL, and tweaked them a bit for am radio.
Adam's best work was clearly on LL, when he had Dr Drew to play off of. Too Late left me straight faced as well. No one to play off of. Except for that truly embarrassing Steve-O incident, which was just sad. TACP, now, that was good TV, he played off of his eccentric friends, and the commentary was the funniest part.
Adam is a wealthy man.Let's hope he has a good financial consultant. He will never come back to LL. Face it.
Like a poster said in this forum before, The Man Show has ended. AC has a wife and twins. It is the end of an era. One that we were lucky to have witnessed. I felt the same way when Barry Sanders retired. But I still tune in to Lions Games every Thanksgiving. And I weep.

Our best bet is to try and keep LL on, because from what I read in your posts, it is on thin ice. The freaky callers are the best part. The phone screeners need to be a bit more on their game, if I hear one more "anal" call...And yes, get a comedian in there, to make fun of the idiots. Oh, and let Anderson back in with his drops. I so miss those. That was half the fun.

well I think deaf frat guy is hilarous. Comedically, he's no Mark Twain but still, his talk about getting your bag worked and poochie is a big hit with the ladies because he's like a short Derek Jeter.

My bottom four TACS bits:

ozzy's movie reviews-- I love ozzy but his nicaraguan accent is unfunny to me
adam's grizzled son and daughter call in-- this was annoying from the first syllable
talk of American Idol and celebrity crap-- Adam rails against celebrity news... but it's a subject in every show
guests-- they mostly suck and are boring. The best so far was Coulter. But DAG is always welcome :)

My top four bits

deaf frat guy-- not high brow, but he'll bust a Russet in your ass if you're a Sammy
What can't adam compain about/Mr brightside-- shows off Adam's gift of gab
tell me something I don't know-- only heard this bit once, bit I like it and it's a reprieve from dick & fart jokes
news and sports-- moves fast and covers a lot of topics and stories. It's like a burst of grape shot from the TACS battery

"Loveline should be put out of its misery."

Nonononononono. The only thing that needs to be put out of its misery is the suit who is in charge of Westwood One.

Loveline is not incurable. Not in the slightest. Its a proven concept that requires a single missing ingredient. All they need is the right cohost and the show will regain its direction. Why the suits didn't realize this over a year ago when Adam announced his imminent depature to them is beyond anytard.

I couldn't actually quit listening, most shows are good, just this one particular one was very annoying. But please explain what the appeal of LISTENING to topless or scantily-clad girls is?

how the fuck can u criticize the show without mentioning DAVE DAMESHEK?!?!?!?!?!?
hes the reason i almost quit listening once a week.

I love Dave. I think the show would improve by ten times if they got rid of Theresa and it was just Adam and Dave, along with the regular flunkies, Tad, Brian, Brusqa, etc.

Adam's best work was clearly on LL, when he had Dr Drew to play off of.

I think that is a large part of it, but also just the format--Loveline was basically about taking calls, and calls from mainly retarded 14-25 year-olds, whereas this show they rarely take calls and when they do they are from mostly normal people. And when they do get a stupid or otherwise unusual caller, like the other day with the mother/daughter callers, it can be truly Loveline-like hilarious.

[Jack Silver] has been on the show a couple times and is interesting and funny.

Congratulations, you just invalidated everything else you said.

Really, the couple times he was on he had a great sense of humor about things, he let them say "boner" on the air, for Christ's sake, he must be a good guy! Anyone know who is imitating him? Is it Damashek?

Perhaps to some people it's vaguely titillating? Mostly, I think it's just aping Howard Stern, though.

I love Dave. I think the show would improve by ten times if they got rid of Theresa and it was just Adam and Dave, along with the regular flunkies, Tad, Brian, Brusqa, etc.

Really? I think Dave's not bad but Theresa's great - intelligent, knowledgeable, quick witted, and good on-air chemistry with Adam.

Dave seems content to sit in the background cackling even when it doesn't quite fit with the mood. Theresa seems to have a good sense of what's going on and a bigger pallet of emotions / better intuition about when to use them.

I think that is a large part of it, but also just the format--Loveline was basically about taking calls, and calls from mainly retarded 14-25 year-olds, whereas this show they rarely take calls and when they do they are from mostly normal people. He does shine best when taking calls and riffing off people - but it seems that they're starting to integrate that more into the show.

All in all, I think the show is already great and it's only starting to gear up.

I cant stand the whole Tad thing. I dont get why he is alloted so much air time and so much of the shows focus. Leave tad off the mics please.

What I like about Dameshek is that he USUALLY knows his role, he isnt there to try to be on par with Adam. Adam is a genius. No one has ever heard of Dameshek before this, so thank chrst that he knows that he should and must be sucking up to Adam as often as possible.

That was one of the problems I had with RPerry. I mean she flapped alot of backlip to Adam, who, has had numerous numbers of copious successful projects over the last decade, while she sounds like she is straight out of a dorm from Umass Amherst.

Yeah but he knows when to pick his spots. Some of the best drops are of him--whenever they play "Good Christ I'm gay" or him screaming and then "Diamond earrings!" when they were spoofing that stupid Oprah thing...Unfortunately they seemed to have recently shortened it to just him screaming. I was really shocked when I logged on here a few months ago and saw many didn't care for him, he really has great timing and is very funny and I don't think he sounds like Adam at all. I mean more than Theresa-duh, but his voice and especially his accent are very distinctive from Adam.

I kinda liked Rachel but I couldn't really argue with you using that against her. Theresa, though, seems on the ball and a good fit for the show (at least, as long as they're trying to go clone the archetypical morning zoo).

I just don't get the hate against Theresa (unless you want to hate on her for the TLC show which I couldn't stand but ).

She is just so annoying, she tries too hard, she knows nothing about Adam and she is obviously just using this show as a stepping-stone to something else. Of course she is infinitely better than Rachel Perry, who basically you could say the exact same things about, times ten. Never saw the TLC show. She makes so many glaring mistakes and makes a fool out of herself. If you gotta have a third person and it HAS to be a chick, I am sure they could do worse. But imagine someone like Kathy Griffin or Sarah Silverman in her chair. Of course those two would never do it, but there must be a similar type out there who wants to get into radio. But what would be wrong with just Adam and Dave? I think two people trying to talk at once is plenty. But if I were Theresa and I got this job, I would watch a bunch of Man Show DVDs and listen to a bunch of old Lovelines to bone up on Adam. It is obvious she doesn't know anything about him other than what she has learned on the show thus far. She should do a little research.

Come on, though, 'duh'?

I just meant Dave sounds more like Adam than Theresa-duh meaning she is a woman and does not sound like Adam at all.

Theresa, though, seems on the ball and a good fit for the show (at least, as long as they're trying to go clone the archetypical morning zoo).

I have never listened to any morning zoo--do they always have a woman? I suppose the point is to draw more female listeners, like football always has women sideline reporters to try to get more females to watch football. But like football, I think Adam's audience is predominately male and the females that do listen would do so with or without Theresa. But yeah I agree with you, she is so much better than Rachel. I guess I shouldn't complain, she could be much worse. I think it would really be cool to get someone Adam knew previously. He and Dave have such a good rapport because they were friends before the show, so imagine how Rachel felt that first day sitting with these two guys who knew each other and who she had only just met in the last couple days. Similar with Theresa, although she at least went into it gradually by subbing from time to time.

She is just so annoying, she tries too hard, she knows nothing about Adam and she is obviously just using this show as a stepping-stone to something else.

I didn't get that impression (especially since radio's generally considered a step down from TV and she's done TV).

Guess I can see he being annoying if she doesn't match your taste (I kinda like her, though).

course she is infinitely better than Rachel Perry

LOL, yeah :D

I feel bad for that but you're right.

Never saw the TLC show.

My ex used to want to watch it at night when we were on trips (just got a horrible flashback - "What not to wear"; if you haven't seen that, consider yourself blessed).

Kathy would be good - she's funny but I think she's also kinda a piece of work and her voice gets grating to me. Sarah seems like too much of a one-trick pony to me (look at me; I'm a cute girl who says ridiculously dirty things; she makes me laugh but the novelty wears thin in short order).

But what would be wrong with just Adam and Dave?

I kinda like the idea of two people (especially after seeing how well it worked on LL) but I'd be more inclined to have it be Adam and someone more mellow / more of a straight man.

My guess is that for the morning format, it's a tall order to just have two or even three main people do everything on air. I have no doubt that Adam could pull it off but I think the execs are probably locked into the idea of cloning Stern's show.

She should do a little research.

If she hasn't, I agree (considering that she's a journalist by training, it seems hard to imagine that she wouldn't, though).

Also, I think some of that is just feigning ignorance to give an excuse for explaining things to the audience who may not be familiar with Adam.

does not sound like Adam at all

But is that a bad thing? Drew doesn't sound like Adam but they worked well together.

I suppose the point is to draw more female listeners, like football always has women sideline reporters to try to get more females to watch football.

It is interesting that they went after (relatively) attractive women for the role (very weird considering it's radio; somehow doesn't bother me much, though).

I have never listened to any morning zoo--do they always have a woman?

I don't know if they always do but it's very common (they usually have an anchor; kinda funny sidekick; some chick and then one or more 'stunt' guys / interns who go out on the street, talk to people, do 'zany' things and generally make jackasses of themselves).

imagine how Rachel felt that first day sitting with these two guys who knew each other and who she had only just met in the last couple days. Similar with Theresa, although she at least went into it gradually by subbing from time to time.

Yeah - that (among other things) is why I gave Rachel a lot of slack and thought she did a reasonable job, considering.

It seemed to me that, within days, Theresa was more on top of things and better integrated into the crew than Rachel was after a few months.

Well yeah that's why I thought that, I imagine she is dying to get back to TV and is only doing this in the meantime. Flash to 2-3 years from now, I could easily imagine us looking back on all the newsgirls there have been while Adam and Dave are the constants (assuming the show lasts that long). I think it is going to be one big revolving door as long as they keep hiring these good-looking types who are trying to get into TV or movies. Hire an ugly chick!

I liked her OK at first, but she just seems to be more annoying lately.
