Monday, July 10, 2006 at 9:37 AM Edited Monday, July 10, 2006 at 9:39 AM I wasn't going to mention this here but reconsidered when I saw that Stryker may be the new cohost and that at least a few of you are slightly opposed to that. <undulyLongwindedIntroduction> A few weeks ago, I happened upon the phone number for Dr. Drew's practice. With the hope of finding a way to get a guest cohost spot, I called and left a message with his secretary. The next day, she called me back to relay a message from Dr. Drew - he's not in charge of picking the cohost. Apparently, that honor falls upon KROQ's Program Director, Kevin Weatherly. Since then, I've been doing my best to bombard Mr. Weatherly by phone, email, and letter in the hope of getting through to him and convincing him to give me a guest cohost spot. </undulyLongwindedIntroduction > (Finally getting to the point) Assuming that what Dr. Drew said is true (and not just a convenient way to blow me off while crapflooding Kevin), if you want Stryker out of there and you want to push for Daniel / Joel / etc., writing or otherwise contacting Kevin might be effective. If you do get in touch with him, I'd be sure to point out that you're a long time fan and that you're no longer listening because of Stryker's presence. Tempting as it may be, angry, vitriolic diatribes against Stryker would probably be counterproductive (think of the comment in Private Parts about Stern haters listening more than his admirers). On the other hand, if you like Stryker and think he should stay on / get his chance, I'd recommend letting Kevin know that as well. Either way, if you're interested, Kevin's postal address follows: Kevin Weatherly Senior Vice President, Programming / Program Director CBS Radio / KROQ 5901 Venice Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90034-1708 You can also reach him by calling KROQ during regular business hours at 323-930-1067 . —anobody |

Monday, July 10, 2006 at 11:47 PM Well I called in tonight and at least tried to bring light to the subject. I was kinda of imagining being crass to dude but it was difficult when he was being nice and even acknowledged that he knows that it's a heavy spot to fill and he's just feelin things out. I still think we need a comedian for a co-host but I still support anobody on trying to co-host. You can plug my music bro ;) But more importantly there was the promise of allowing some of the listeners to co host. —rAnCIDsICk@!!! |

I think there's a pretty fine line with that stuff - it's so easy to find out way too much information over the internet. Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at 4:08 AM Edited Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at 4:10 AM With regard to the OP and anybody who plans to contact KROQ management-- be sure to indicate it's not only you who is discouraged that Loveline has not found a stellar host, but that this is the semtiment among the majority of the die-hard loveline community at The Loveline Companion. I'm not sure if they know/care about what we think and say, but they should, because I think we're the canary in the coalmine for Loveline listenership. I used to pride myself on listening even in the post-adam era but now I only listen occasionally depending on the guest. It seems bizarre to me that a nationally syndicated 2-hour show with a sizeable audience could be left rudderless like this. When Rachel Perry left TACS, they held 'auditions' the same way Loveline seemed to, and now they have a suitable replacement. And TACS is only on in a few cities. Maybe the management-types are out of touch and can't see the difference between McHale and Stryker and Tosh and the others. Stryker should be the equivalent of a substitute teacher here, not a long-term replacement. Anobody-- even though Drew's secretary told you he isn't in charge of picking the next cohost, at least Drew knows that people are malcontent with the current situation. It's like in a court of law, if the prosecuter asks a provocative question and opposing council's objection is sustained, the question still reached the jury's ears, and plants a seed in their mind even though the question wasnt answered. And I must believe Drew has some say in the matter. Management should know that we're not complaining about Stryker because we hate him, we're complaining because we want the show to be funny, reasonably paced, and entertaining again. —ProfessorCarbuncle |

Have done and will continue to do so. Stryker should be the equivalent of a substitute teacher here, not a long-term replacement. Since they haven't made an announcement, perhaps he is. I must believe Drew has some say in the matter. I firmly believe that, if he was resolute about picking somebody or not and was willing to be firm with management, Drew could make the decision unilaterally (though since I don't see him doing that, I'd imagine that management will end up making the decision). —anobody |

Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at 1:27 PM Loveline is only syndicated because it generally rolls along, under it's own steam. It was originally syndicated because of the popularity of the MTV show. It survived, despite it's self. They do not promote it and it fills a niche market, the stations that carry it can say "look, we do a sex-advice show...please extend out license"it also fills a 'dead zone' for most stations. They do not want to pay anyone to work between 22:00-0000 because it is not worth it...yet they have enough listeners to put new programming in. If it becomes too much of a problem, or gets dropped by too many stations, WW1 will just drop it —Laxdude |

This is the same guy who has silenced Anderson on more than one occasion and he is undoubtedly the one who pressured the screeners into not taking callers beyond a certain age (probably because a marketroid got in his ear). I think it says something about Loveline's importance to Westwood One that they have given so much control to a single radio station. Yes, it is influential and the show did start there...but still. —Mahalo |

I think it says something about Loveline's importance to Westwood One that they have given so much control to a single radio station. Have you seen how many shows that CBS Radio / Westwood One produce? My understanding is that a lot of those started out on a single station and then got syndicated. I can't imagine big companies like those micromanaging the details of every show (especially if things seemed to be going well when they picked them up). —anobody |

Thursday, July 13, 2006 at 8:46 PM Funny, sounds to me like exactly the kinda guy Adam always complained about who'd act based on a handful of letters. Not quite. There is a world of difference between a person who takes the time to write a radio show and an advertising executive who has direct contact with the program director. Weatherly is just following the money, and based on the almighty young teenage demographic, Stryker isn't off the beaten path of his trail to profits. I can't imagine big companies like those micromanaging the details of every show (especially if things seemed to be going well when they picked them up). Yeah, I don't know much about the management details of other syndicated shows, but I've always gotten a sense that Loveline is more neglected than most, hence the strong connection to KROQ. Whatever the case may be, and as no discouragement to your letter writing (okay, kind of), Weatherly just doesn't seem like the type amenable to these concerns. Malcontent Hawaiians might even have a hard time getting the message through. —Mahalo |

Weatherly is just following the money, and based on the almighty young teenage demographic, Stryker isn't off the beaten path of his trail to profits. I agree that letters shouldn't matter but I'm still convinced that each one weighs in a little and there's the idea that each represents a significant number of listeners. Yeah, I don't know much about the management details of other syndicated shows, but I've always gotten a sense that Loveline is more neglected than most, hence the strong connection to KROQ. Maybe, but it seems reasonable to me that most or the reigns are left in the hands of the home station (barring a significant drop in ratings / FCC fines / etc.). Anyone with first-hand radio knowledge want to chime in and enlighten us? Whatever the case may be, and as no discouragement to your letter writing (okay, kind of), Weatherly just doesn't seem like the type amenable to these concerns. Perhaps not... but I still think it's worth a small bit of effort (hell - I've got envelopes and stamps here and it only takes 5-10 minutes to run off a short letter and send it). Malcontent Hawaiians might even have a hard time getting the message through. They might... but a few of them still managed to get the show pulled from KPOI (fuckin bastards)... not that it mattered much anyway, KPOI always seemed to edit the shows and then air a sterilized 'not quite the best of the last few days' sort of thing anyway (fuckin' Mormons). —anobody |

They switched frequencies and formats and now they're KPOI, "The Big Kahuna" (classic rock at 105.9). They have another good set of call letters - (sing songy jingle) Hawaiian 105 KINE, the heart and soul of Hawaii (of course, "da kine" probably doesn't mean much to you so their call letters probably won't either). love poi. I've never met anyone else who's white who does I'm neutral on it, myself. Thursday, July 27, 2006 at 8:44 PM Look, I've been a fan of this show (which is the best radio show ever, in my opinion) since they were on MTV, and that's a long time for me, because I'm not that old. I am seventeen now, so I've been a fan of the show for most of my life so far and I will continue to be, regardless of the cohost. I understand Stryker is far from Adam "Ace" Carolla--I love Adam--but he was not the entire show. If you're a fan of Adam Carolla, listen to him on his morning show, which I unfortunately cannot hear. If you're a fan of Loveline, just support it. Drew is still here, yet no one seems to care. But Stryker comes on with great frequency and people start complaining. What if the show ended altogether? Honestly, I think anyone who's complaining about Stryker's presence isn't appreciative of the show. The show helps people, and Stryker's really not that bad a cohost. I still find the show entertaining and I still learn a lot from Drew. I guess I'm just a bigger fan of the show, and that's probably because I moved from Richmond, Virginia, where I received the show just fine, to a backwoods hick town in North Carolina where I can't get it anywhere other than the Internet. (Sorry, KROQ and Westwood, but that's the reality of it; I have to hear the show somehow!) In any case, my point is this: appreciate the show, or stop listening, because the show isn't about what you want. It's about helping people, and as long as that's still happening, who they pick as a cohost is completely irrelevant. Don't be selfish! =] --Nick —superSKAnick |

Thursday, July 27, 2006 at 11:50 PM Edited Thursday, July 27, 2006 at 11:55 PM IMO, the one thing that bothers me most about Styker, is that he is too much like 'Smithers' from "The Simpsons". I've been listening for over 10 years, and to me, Drew is like my older, much smarter brother. To hear Styker ask such personal questions, creeps me out too much. Size, duration, techniques, . I know he is Dr. McDreamy, but it's like hearing about a family member's prowess. Ew. Other than that, at least LL is still on, and in my opinion, even though marginal, is way more entertaining than TACS. AC's nasal whine is comforting, but his a.m. radio persona ,not so much. You love AC, say so on his website. You love Dr. Drew and LL, stay here and quit your bitchin', at least it is not some formula, crappy a.m. riddled with commercials, scripted tripe. (That was first tried out on LL). Yes, I know, I'm on notice.BTW, Welcome Skanick. Always happy to see a new poster. Takes the heat off of me. "how about this heat???" rimshot —Spanglemaker |

Also, I found my statement humorous, hence the "LOL". It appears you did not, so no problem there. I find humor in nearly everything, which you will probably come to notice. The fact that you pointed out a three-letter acronym from a one-line post rather than my initial post, which took the form of a paragraph, is kind of sad. Friday, July 28, 2006 at 12:39 AM It is funny that that's the best the forum's got :D LMAO We all wanna be like Adam with his clever sardonic quips but all we've got is a piss stain in our pants, a shiny cap gun, and our cowboy hat. Seriously, gtfo. Loveline hasn't been entertaining in a year. You do realize that Adam was still on a year ago, Stefanie, don-cha? —anobody |

Friday, July 28, 2006 at 12:43 AM I still find the show entertaining. You're saying Adam is the only reason the show was entertaining. You don't like any of the comedians who come on? You don't even like David Alan Grier? Even Drew entertains me. Either you're not listening often enough, well enough, or you lack a sense of humor, in which case your calling others out on what they find entertaining is nothing short of annoying. —superSKAnick |

Friday, July 28, 2006 at 12:45 AM You got flamed because your post wasn't funny and it didn't even make sense, spazz. Your passive aggressive defense and angle about how it's funny to you and that's the important thing isn't earning any points either. The point is you should quit posting because the tlc retard quota has been met. —smaller hands |

Now that's funny :D I can think of maybe one or two things on the forum in my short stint that have angered me and this is parsecs away. —anobody |
