Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 3:29 AM My summer vacation is coming up and that reminded me that it's been almost a year since Adam basically announced he would be leaving the show. I remember because it was a night or two before I left and I was tortured that I would not be able to hear any follow-up for the whole next week. With that being said, Westwood None has had almost a year to come up with some type of solution to Adam's departure...meaning finding a replacement. As we know, they tried out a number of people...some more than others(Tosh, McHale, Bonaduce, etc.), now within the last month they stick us with Stryker out of the blue. The pussies are even too ashamed to announce him as the replacement. What a rapid decline for the show. I listened or watched LL for the better part or 10 or eleven years. Now I listen to old episodes because I cannot tolerate the current product. If the show were to be cancelled now, I would be sad because of how great it once was, but I would not miss the current watered-down product. To tell you the truth, I suspect Drew's current contract might be his last. He can't possibly be enjoying the show like he used to and he's a busy enough man without it. As silent as Anderson has been(or was toward the end of when I was still listening), I have to think he wants out too. Basically Loveline has been killed by bad management and penny-pinching. Unless they wake up and hire a good co-host, the show is dead to me. Discuss... —Mayonnaise |

Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 5:47 AM I think the show will go back to its one night a week basis, with just Drew, like the old days. Loveline is Drews baby, I doubt he'd just stop it all together. —Darkfloyd |

Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 7:56 AM For me, I don't quite peg it as the one year anniversary yet. I'll always consider it November 1st, when he gave us three days to pay our respects. Halloween was the last show without a strictly "farewell" focus. I'm completely with you, Mayo. A year really should be enough to get a new cohost, especially for such a high-profile show, and with so many people being interested in the position. It's honestly quite frustrating. —Chrispy |

Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 8:54 AM If you watch TACP he learns about it pretty early and I'm sure he let Loveline know. I wish they'd pick someone decent (decent meaning not Stryker at this point). This limbo is killing me. If I wasn't so busy I'd be concerned. —bguirk |

Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 3:27 PM Chrispy, I agree with you that the actualy decline in show quality happened when Adam actually left(or started the farewell tour), but I was just pointing out that one year ago the show was in all its glory, and one year later its in the crapper. Westwood definitely had enough warning to avoid it coming to this. Dark, I think if it were up to Drew maybe he would consider just backing off to one night a week or whatever. The reason I think this wouldn't happen is because Westwood None owns the show and will try to wring every cent out of it until its completely dead. Say when Drew's contract is up they go to him and tell him he has to take a huge paycut because ratings and affiliates are down. Drew says no because he knows its not his fault. They decide to go the cheap route like they did with Stryker and replace Drew with Dr. Marcel. Sure the show quality will go down, but they'll be able to hang on to enough affiliates to make a profit, especially with the money they save on letting Drew go. Of course, I think Drew would almost certainly turn up in some other version of the same show somewhere else, but it wouldn't be the same. That's what I see happening before the show would go back to a local one-nighter. —Mayonnaise |

Saturday, July 15, 2006 at 12:10 PM I quit listening once Adam's show started, but I have gone back and listened to a few shows with a good guest and after several months off I really enjoyed the format. I listened to the Jeff Probst show of May 10, which was especially entertaining, and also the Adam De La Pena from April 6 and the Jeff Ross from June 20, but those weren't as good. But if Stryker is the permanent co-host, wow that is frightening. If Drew leaves they should pair Dr. Bruce with Stryker. They are almost the same guy anyway. —TonyInPortland |
