From the Rumor Mill — Adam Carolla may be running out of time.

West Coast advertising buyers say they’re being told by sales reps that CBS is only giving Carolla “another month or two” to improve ratings — or his show will be cut. Some agency folks tell Inside Radio they’re also being told CBS is considering putting Opie and Anthony on the Carolla stations
----

I wonder if 1) Opie and Anthony will get put in even w/o the first book of ratings coming out and 2) if this means we could get Adam back on loveline??!?!?!

If this winds up to be true, this may be the end that marks a new beginning. If there's one thing I hate doing, it's getting my hopes up, but just this once, I'm going to hope that this does happen and that it results in Adam's triumphant return to Loveline.

Seconded. This may be why no permanent host has been named, they're playing the waiting game.

Sadly this also means that Greymatters, er, Bryan will be out of a job too. Sorry buddy.

I'd hate to see him loose his morning show but it would be insanely great if he'd return to Loveline.

Greymatters, er, Bryan

Nonsense!

I mean... Grey's a chick and Bryan's still pre-op.

Besides, I happen to know that Grey's not a virgin and she's anything but silent.

You know what we need to do? Boycott the ACS. It'll be like chemotherapy. It might kill the patient, but on the other hand it might kill the cancer and let the patient get better. And let's be honest, even if we don't use the chemotherapy because we're afraid of killing the patient, the cancer's gonna get him anyway... as we can clearly see with this rumor here.

Even Laith's metaphors center around killing.

This is why the Dark One is a solid poster, consistency is the mark of excellence.

You fucking tards - he wont go back because:
a) They wont want him back (did'nt he leave because they offered him half of what Drew was going to get) they would not swallow thier pride.
b) he would not go back - he would get a nice financial pay off and move onto something else - Adam is a man who always seems to have many projects on the go.
I mean ideally I would logve him to go back - I just dont think it will happen.

Yes, it's unlikely he'll return but you forget how genuinely emotional he was at the end and his admission that he loved doing Loveline and was sorry to go but that the morning show was "something he had to try."

That aside, as much as I feel Adam is an underappreciated genius, I can also note that he is not exactly destined for success in any endeavor.

Let's look at his recent projects:
Talk show - Painful to watch much of the time, quickly and mercifully axed
Radio show - not exactly lighting up the airwaves as this thread will attest
Home improvement show - good showcase, but not a ratings hit. Second season is doubtful
Movie project - If 'The Hammer' happens I see it as straight to video at best, Comedy Central feature at worst
Drawn Together - moderate success, I think it’s still in production but does anyone besides die-hards even know/care that he's involved?

Let's be honest, for him Loveline was the perfect melding of talent and vehicle. They're both better with him there and not nearly as good without. He'd be a fool not to consider going back. He's got two kids to feed and surely he'd be given a sweeter deal from the powers that be now that they both realize they need each other.

Say ACS gets canceled. CBS will still have to payout Adam's entire contract (as they did with David Lee Roth). Simply because his show is not on the air does not mean Adam would not be under contract.

My point is, CBS could keep Adam under contract but not air the show. Assuming his contract is exclusive, CBS could prevent him from returning to LL, which is on many rival channels, including in LA.

I cannot see CBS relying on O&A to save their west coast stations in the morning ratings, when ratings from the NY market for O&A's watered down morning show have not yet come out. Their show sucks, I have tried it on XM and it totally blows.

Wouldn't it be a step back career-wise for Adam if he were to return though?

I would love it but I think he burned his bridges and he would have to swallow his man pride to come back...unless Westwood begs him and I don't see that happening.

Also I would think Lynnette would veto it because with new babies she would not like him gone at night again. He said it was hard on his marriage.

All factors considered if the Adam Carolla morning show dies I think he would move onto other stuff.

If he would come back to Loveline it would be like he never left. The show would return to it's former glory. If they would just offer him the big bucks all would be forgiven????

I don't think Adam would consider returning to loveline because:

a) it pays less
b) it's not a comedy show per se (it's a "comedy vacuum" according to Adam)
c) it would be a little humiliating, coming back with his tail between his legs
d) he wouldn't be in charge like he was at his morning radio show
e) he's a family man now, it's possible he won't work a daily gig for a while
f) From the last episode he was on, the way Adam talked it sounded like that part of his life is closed and locked for good

What would make me think he might be able to circumvent contract stuff and go back to LL is that he would still be working for the same company. Why would he want to go back? Because Adam is a guy who needs a forum, and LL is the perfect forum for him. Why would he not want to go back? Because the performed a Carolla-ectomy on the show once he left. If he can get past that, I see no reason why it couldn't happen. I think the number of affiliates LL is losing would convince management to try and make him want to come back. I've also wondered if they haven't been dragging their feet in case he would be available again. Maybe there is already a deal in place. I don't want to get my hopes up too high, but it's a nice thought.

The Carolla-ectomy wasn't even very thorough or consistent. Sometimes they bleeped any mention of his name, and sometimes they discussed him at length. There were even a few Adam-drops here and there. Very strange.

Same Company? KLSX and KROQ are both CBS radio stations?

Adam could probably negotiate out of his contract in exchange for a reduction in the total amount they have to pay him. Problem is, if the reduction is less than he would make at LL, there might be no motivation to return.

Maybe Adam will go back into doing Loveline? Maybe take Howard's original offer and doing the show uncensored on Sirius. Please cancel his abortion of a show! He will still have to be paid so it's not like Adam will be getting screwed.

Adam will never go back to Loveline. NEVER.

We have no idea what Adam's contract is...they might have performance clauses (ie ratings, growing markets) - so they might have an out.

Secondly, this is crap. The ratings are in, no one will make any changes until the end of Summer. He might not make it until September, when could be replaced for a run up to the Fall ratings book.

However, I think the Fall ratings book will mark a change, Adam will make it through, and then they will start making changes if things have not improved. As long as the non-Free FM stations keep him, that is found money to CBS. Roth was fired because of poor ratings..and the man was an ass. Adam is towing the line, he is already the top show in Vegas apparently (and, I seem to recall that Stern did not even do that great in LA...but I might be wrong).

And why would Infinity not try to use Kevin and Bean as a replacement?

But anyway, the story is questionable...because the book just closed, and they will not do ratings (that count) until Fall...

While I'm not privy to the ratings, it does seem that his show is doing well (then again, I'm not exactly unbiased).

At least we do know that there's never been a false rumor posted here.

It would suck ass if his show was dropped.

Yeah - the more I think about it, the more absurd this rumor seems.

Not only does he seem to be doing so well but he's got a proven track-record of building a huge audience with Loveline and the executives aren't dumb - they'd have to realize that even if it's a relatively slow process, he's almost certain to find his niche.

Still, it's a nice dream (in a kinda sick way), anyway.

Guys, lets look at it from this point of view: RATINGS!!!

How is Loveline doing in ratings since Adam left? Better, worse, the same?

If its doing much worse, then the likelyhood of him coming back is much more. Ratings = Advertising = $$$ = Adam.

Look at the Infinity/CBS Radio Deal with Opie and Anthony. The very same company that threw them out, fired them, whatever, now came back to them to get RATINGS. No one thought it would ever happen (including the duo themselves apparently). Time heals all wounds, as well as the allmighty dollar. Advertising brings in that dollar.

From that exact website...

And “strongly denies” the rumors that they’re considering cutting the L.A.-based Carolla if the ratings don’t improve. Entercom’s David Field also tells

Yup and as we all know people in the entertainment industry speaking freely to reporters always speak the absolute spin-free truth. They never try to massage the fragile egos of their clients or avoid showing the competition that they don't totally believe in their product.

Like when FOX made nearly the exact same claim about Arrested Development going into its third season. And, of course, they're now hard at work on season 4. COME ON!!

I can't remember exactly, but I don't ever recall hearing a statement like that concerning DLR's show. From the start CBS more or less seemed to kill that show; at least on the surface, they don't seem to be playing the same game with Carolla.

OK all of you can calm down. Carolla is goin' no where. None of this is true and I just talk to angie about the ratings.... When Carolla started off here at KLSX here was at a 0.7, and now I'm happy to say he is almost at a 2.0.

Keep cool my babys:-)
