For a while, Mojo 730 out of Vancouver was the favoured streamer for Loveline recorders. Since Talk radio for guys, didn't pull in the numbers they went to all Sports trying to take on an established Team 1040 which lead to the dropping of Loveline. The flip to sports was predicated on the loss of The Tom Leykis show, after being told by the CRTC that broadcasting the show would likely cause the loss of their license as the show was 'offensive' and did not meet any Canadian broadcast content standards.

Well, the All Sports era at Mojo just died, after drawing even worse ratings for 2 years as Sports Talk and poor management from the parent company who lost the rights to both major local teams (NHL Vancouver Canucks, and CFL BC Lions) from their sister station to competitor the Team 1040 they packed up and took their ball with them. This format flip is a clear result of loosing the rights to the Canucks games, and also deeply impacted the CKNW sports department, most of who were Mojo based.

The station will run out their contracts for Whitecaps Soccer, WHL Vancouver Giants, and NFL Seattle Seahawks games. The rest of the fair will be morning and afternoon drive slots filled with traffic and weather, other spots will be filled with CKNW talk radio show repeats.

Previously the station, CKLG 730 AM operated as a top 40s music, later being shifted to NW2 all news/traffic.

Vancouver has too many AM properties, and since it is unlikely that the current all traffic/repeat format will make a dent on the already established all news station, it will probably be sold off or go ethnic radio. Parent company Chorus already owns 3 other radio positions in the city, two FM and one AM.

It is not really a sad day for radio in Vancouver and neither was it a surprise, it just goes to show that Chorus (Shaw) have no idea what they are doing.
