I watched it on JetBlue and I think the audio was f'd up. They looked good, although seeing them bounce around the same way they did 15 years ago is a little strange. You don't see Eddie Vedder stage diving any more.

"Stadium Arcadium" isn't bad but it doesn't bring anything new to the table. Those who want them to release BSSM over and over will find some delight in the funk rock songs like "Hump De Bump" and "Warlocks." I'm far from disliking RHCP like Adam, but I think we heard the extent of what they could do on "By the Way" (which is their best or second best album, IMO).

Flea recently posted a tirade on their site about the band's hearts being broken over their music being illegaly shared on the Internet because of the degradation of audio quality. Apparently he doesn't realize that scene release quality is a huge step up from FM radio fidelity.

RHCP are alright, I never loved them never hated them, my favorite song is Suck My Kiss and Mother's Milk era were the best songs. They haven't released anything very great after that and I think One Hot Minute was the beginning of their downfall. Oh well, I've still already got presale tickets for when they come to Fresno in August because I bought the cd thru itunes for like 20 bucks for some reason. Somethin to hold me by until the new Three Days Grace cd comes out.

I didn't pay much attention when they came on but they did look pretty funny to me (older / much longer hair).

I was going to watch SNL last night for the first time in months (with the exception of the TV Funhouse episode) but the opening Bush sketch was so awful that I had to change the channel. And do performers even TRY to act like their not looking at teleprompters anymore? Come on!

From What I have listened to so far (both discs through once) this new album is simply mediocre. No verses that fit well in my head. No catchy choruses. Arcadium? I consistently spell it archadium. "Stranger things have happened Both before and after noon" seems like a dumb phrase that might run through my mind when I am tired but not really interesting. Overall a listenable album.

I thought they were "meh", they opened with obviously a new, soft song...so I skipped it. Second time around, I skipped them preemptively (watch the entire show in about 35 minutes).

I am afraid that when they did Californication, they became dead to me. It was so fucking overplayed...you would think it was a Canadian Content Nickelback song. Not to mention, the song fucking sucked. Since then I have only heard them do soft songs - which sucked just as hard.

Do you mean you have the technical capacity to watch it in 34 minutes or that only 34 minutes of it is worth watching?

It involved watching about the first 30 seconds of many bits, and then fast forwarding through the crap that followed.

So I probably watch 30 minutes, and 4 minutes of fast forwarding. (I would also say that about 24 minutes was worth watching, I watched the Weekend Update, but do not remember it being worth it.

I skipped school the day B.S.S.M. came out (if memory serves Fishbone's The Reality of my Surroundings came out that day too) and have been a big fan since seeing them do Hollywood on Letterman with David Sanborn. Californication is a great album. If something is "overplayed" I can only say that's what you (the royal you) get for listening to commercial radio for your music. Stations that play the same song multiple times in a day are dead to me and have been since '95 or so. I have no idea what's popular right now or back in 2000. I feel like if a band is good enough to get a spot on one of the late night shows that is their one chance to impress me. If they can't cut it live I don't really want anything to do with them.

I'm only sort of looking forward to the new one--the last one was such a let downthat it's hard to get excited about this one. Wished they would've played another new one on SNL.

For what it's worth, here's my ranking of their albums:

1. Blood Sugar Sex Magic/Mother's Milk (two way tie)
2. Californication
3. Uplift Mofo Party Plan
4. That EP with Castles Made of Sand on it.

All of the above are great. The ones below have some issues:
5. One hot Minute
6. By the Way (much better if you skip about 6 songs on it)
7. Freaky Stylely
8. RHCP (only woth listening for Mommy...Where's Daddy?)

Honorable Mention for the cover of the Abbey Road EP .

bump--

"She's only 18" is the best song on the 1st CD. That is going to be a great one live.

How many songs have the RHCP included a line about finger banging in? They must be up to 7 or so.

That song has Flea's best trumpet playing to date. I was counting that in my finger banging total, even though he can only "feel her getting wet through her uniform." I just started on the 2nd CD yesterday and I think I caught another finger bang-bang reference. Maybe the've been watching southpark or something.
