Friday, May 5, 2006 at 12:57 PM Usually, I just plug in the usb cord from my camera and a prompt will come up and ask me if i want to copy these files to a cd, or view them in the fujifilm viewer, or just through regular windows picture viewer what have you blah blah but now the only thing that happens is a noise to confirm it's connected and the icon to safely remove hardware. I went to the website and I downloaded their USB drivers but it hasn't changed anything. Does anyone know or have any idea of what the glitch is? —smaller hands |

Friday, May 5, 2006 at 5:20 PM Edited Friday, May 5, 2006 at 5:22 PM Does anyone know or have any idea of what the glitch is? Hmmm, actually we need more info. Remember the last time it worked properly? And the first time it didn't? Can you say what changed on your computer between those two times? Or better yet, did you change any settings in the software that snarfs the images from your camera? Or that presents you with those options when you jack in? Eating one of the kittens probably didn't have anything to do with it, that usually only jams up the time-of-day clock. —Hans Langer |

So everyone was talking about the movie? I haven't seen that, I've only read the book. And I never liked the "strictly shallow" interpretation, it just seems so limiting and whiny and preachy. Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 10:05 AM Edited Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 10:48 AM Yes (but some people make it a PITA). In the simplest case, you can just look at the source of the web page and find the url for the movie (look for something .swf (for flash), .wmv, .mov, .mpg, etc). In that case, all you have to do is copy the url to your browser's address bar, hit enter and then File->Save. If you're on a *nix box or you have something like Cygwin installed in Widows, you can use curl or wget (I'm guessing you don't so won't bother with the instructions; let me know if you need them). If you're trying to download something with a url that's been obfuscated, it's a bit more of a hassle (sometimes you can still find the url in Javascript but, if not, I've found that it's usually easiest to use a packet sniffer to get it; let me know if you need instructions for that - it's not very hard). SH - did you ever figure out your camera? If not, there's a lot of stuff you could try but the first thing I'd do is roll back your USB and camera drivers (if you're in XP and didn't disable it, it's pretty easy; otherwise, I think you can just go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager and find your USB ports, remove the drivers and then reinstall them from the CD/DVD or from Microsoft over the internet). I know you tried reinstalling the camera's software but (if you haven't yet) you might want to try uninstalling it then reinstall it from scratch. Anyway, I suspect that if you completely remove everything then start over, you'll find it magically working again. —anobody |
