Monday, May 1, 2006 at 12:29 PM Edited Monday, May 1, 2006 at 12:36 PM Its crazy out there, McDonolds will close early, and they only have their drive thru open, the NYSE is low (or whatever they call it) Gallo winery gave their employees a day off, Tyson food also closed early, and a lot of truck drivers have refused to work today, so this means that products that need to be delivered will be behind a day or two. Now lets talk to Mandee who is protesting in Harvard square. ****Mandee**** : yes Lena it sure is crazy out here, im standing here in the scorching heat, sweating my big butt off for there illegals, but it's all worth it, becuase today we find out just how much these immigrants mean to us. I hope Bush is watching this on T.V, and i hope he chocks on another pretzel. From the Harvard square, in Massachustts (sp?) Im mandee. —adams_babymomma |

Monday, May 1, 2006 at 10:01 PM Edited Monday, May 1, 2006 at 10:02 PM I won't lie, I think mandee is going through a somewhat naive college freshman activism phase. —ZT-In-Heat Now that I think about it, I take that back. Mandee, stick to your guns. Retaining the better parts of being a idealistic college freshman may be one of the most important things in life. People are going to try and change you, cultures are going to try to indoctrinate you -- don't let them. Learn tact, patience, and when restraint is necessary but don't let it become you. Learn to play the system, don't develop such a fetish for it that you can't seperate yourself from it. It's like Emerson said. What I must do is all that concerns me, not what the people think. This rule, equally arduous in actual and in intellectual life, may serve for the whole distinction between greatness and meanness. It is the harder because you will always find those who think they know what is your duty better than you know it. It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude. I was probably more right about life in general when I was 17 than I am now. The only thing I didn't have figured out back then were relationships, and now I still really don't know that much about them now.I'm going to go get in touch with my inner teenager. —ZT-In-Heat |

Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at 3:24 AM ZT is a sellout. —greymatters It would be very foolish to give up now. I like the change, ZT. Am curious though - what prompted it? —anobody Just kind of reflecting on life... I don't often find that my first intutions are "right," but I have found over the last several years when I have a kind of, "strong intution" about something it always holds water and later sometime later I'll see it come to fruition. I know that sounds kind of arrogant and fruity, but it's true. The problem is that I have such low self-esteem I've had a way of letting people talk me out of things I've all ready figured out, or I'll kind of talk myself out of it if it seems "unpopular" enough or unlikely. It has a way of snowballing too, after making one bad decision I feel less secure about making another good one, and tend to go with something that should be a safe bet, but if further away from what I think the right answer is. Overtime it's kind of made me crazy. When you're young, and your smart, part of the reason older people admonish you all the time is because they're jealous and they want to make sure you see the world through the same filter of pain they do. For instance, even though I'm a good pinko, I have a bad taste in my mouth from activist culture. People heavily entrenched in activist culture are almost by definition fucking nuts. It's not something you get in to unless you've had some hard times and have got a bone to pick with the man or you're longing for a social group or an identity or you've got a lot of energy about a controversial political issue, etc. That doesn't mean that it's necessarly a bad thing, but it does mean that in most activist organizations the drama to work ratio is going to be very high. Very literally, I've thought about starting something like "Activists Anonymous" (similar to AA) to help activists get their lives straightened out. The only types of activist organizations that seem to end up working (long-term at least, and lot of crazy people can get together and have a very short but profound and even good impact) are bonafide non-profits with something similar to a corporate hierarchy, or are mainstream enough to get fairly sane people, or they're groups of friends that are already pretty tight and can work well together. If you look around, the exceptions are very few. Anyway, I'm kind of rambiling now, and it is time to ramble. —ZT-In-Heat |

Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at 5:40 PM VISTA, Calif. -- Deputies and police officers from all over San Diego County were sent to Vista on Monday night to disperse an unruly crowd at an immigration rally. The demonstration began peacefully as one of the many "Day Without Immigrants" demonstrations that took place around the county. But at about 8 p.m., some of the 800 to 1,200 protesters began throwing rocks and bottles at deputies, sheriff's Lt. Phil Brust said. Between 150 and 200 officers from police departments in Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Coronado, El Cajon, Escondido, La Mesa, National City, Oceanside and the California Highway Patrol formed riot lines and marched toward the demonstrators, telling them to disperse. By midnight, all but about 150 people had gone home. The smaller group made a last stand, throwing more rocks and bottles, Brust said. Deputies warned the mob to disperse or face arrest. At that point, the group broke up and officers cleared the area. No arrests were made. Extra deputies were assigned to patrol Vista overnight to prevent additional disturbances, NBC 7/39 reported. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department has a history of tension with Vista's Latino community. Although nearly 50 percent of Vista residents speak Spanish as their first language, not a single deputy patrolling the city's streets is fluent in Spanish, according to the department. —000 |

Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at 5:45 PM Yesterday was amazing. im standing here in the scorching heat It was actually pretty cold out. But I couldn't believe how many people, especially from my school came. We all made signs together and then we marched to the commuter rail and went to Harvard square. I met a lot of really inspiring people and we even made the front page of the Daily News Tribune. See? I certainly wouldn't blame my college for anything that has to do with pro-liberal stuff. There are about 12 of us who are regular members in the Radical Student Alliance and it's very difficult for us to work with the administration. Recently, there was an art exhibit displaying Palestinian children's drawings from refugee camps in the library and they were just forcibly taken down because some people found them to be offensive. This basically just shows how this school really is pro-Zionist and all of the stuff about pluralism and co-existence is clearly fake bullshit. On Friday, my friends and I are going to protest this action. So, it has nothing to do with the school making me so liberal because I'm actually protesting against the school. —mandeemoo22 |

(this is one of my favorite adam bits, btw.)h the rest of your kin and wait for the rapture, stryker. it'll be any day now. you think all the other groups are going to hell and they think you are going to hell. beautiful. but some how, you, the genius who has given us the nicaraguanse and informed us that cinco de mayo is mexican independence day, has picked the right one. so go up on the mountain 1) If I was like that, then how come I didn't attack Jews and Buddhists and Islams and others? I only attacked Mormonism because the religion was created less than 200 years ago by Joseph Smith who went to jail on several accounts and generally did really stupid things and made up the religion with his imagination. 2) I know it's not technically Mexican Independence day, and it has something to with the Mexican taking out the French or something, I don't know, my Spanish Teacher made a big deal about it, and I was only half paying attention. I didn't know you guys would cares so much about the technicalities of Cinco De Mayo, so I didn't run to wikipedia to read everything and make myself look like a genius on the subject. Would you prefer that? 3) I used to have a gf that would flip out everytime I called her Mexican, because she was from nicaragua, and she made me say it the proper way which is nicaraguanse, I don't know if that's how you spell it, but it's grammatically correct. Edit: I just asked her and it's nicaraguense, so what exactly are you "loling" at? 4) I don't believe in the rapture, but thanks anyway. 5) I'm not forcing my religion on you in any way, plurry, so why you gotta hate? I don't go around here saying how stupid atheism and agnosticism is. —Stryker311 |

Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 3:51 PM this board is popular largely because of adam, a great big, loudmouth atheist, who was on the show for 10+ years. my admittedly obnoxious anti-religious ranting is in some ways an homage to my/our muse and isn't out of place here, although i'm sure i have a fair share of silent detractors. your support of religion, on the other hand, probably is in the minority here. that's my guess. i could be wrong, but i don't think this is a place where religious peeps hang out much. i don't go on christian/mormon/whatever boards and post my opinions there. i used to largely ignore everything you typed, but you picked a fight with me first with your repeated "you're cool" snide remarks. i let it go at first, but you persisted. don't forget that. —plurry |

Sunday, May 7, 2006 at 11:32 AM plurry, why are you picking on Stryker? He's religious, big fucking deal, he barely ever mentions it. I'd understand if you picked on him for his Kellie Pickler love or his Paris Hilton love or his ugly Mormon girl love, but his religious beliefs? Like I said, he barely ever talks about it. —greymatters |

Sunday, May 7, 2006 at 1:40 PM greymatters, stop feeling sorry for stryker. as i said in my last post in this thread, he chimed in with his unnecessary snide remarks first (not this thread, other threads gone by). i ignored it. he did it again and i declared jihad. also, i've been visiting this forum for years and never squabbled with anyone at length but him. he's pissed a fair amount of other people off here as well to the point where they've said something also. hmmm... must be me. can't be him. don't worry, i'm done with it. his "Oswaldo is Nicaraguanse" remark is enough to last me a lifetime anyway. —plurry |

Sunday, May 7, 2006 at 3:14 PM Edited Sunday, May 7, 2006 at 3:18 PM Nicaraguanse was classic. Don't feel bad about that either, Stryker. It's good to expose our ignorance. That's how we learn. It's a hell of a lot better to do it here, where it doesn't matter, than in real life (not that making mistakes in real life is exactly the end of the world, either). unnecessary snide remarks first (not this thread, other threads gone by) I always assumed he was just joking, not trying to be mean. It's hard to tell when people are serious in this medium since you loose almost all nonverbal communication. I'd like to think that if he knew it bothered you, he wouldn't have have kept pressing. Anyway, I'm sure he'll have a better idea of the boundaries from this and, ideally, avoid more conflict in the future. I was just about to request to be added as your MySpace friend. Oh well. ˇFUCK! ˇFUCK! ˇFUCK! ˇFUCK! ˇFUCK! ˇFUCK! ˇFUCK! ˇFUCK! ˇFUCK!

Sunday, May 7, 2006 at 6:44 PM The first one has fruit and the second one doesn't. Do I get an A? You get +10 points (final grades will be assigned on a curve at the end of the quarter). I miss the part where that is funny. and what's so wrong with it, can someone explain? If you had said 'Nicaraguan', it wouldn't have been funny. If you had said Japanese, it wouldn't have been funny. Somehow, 'Nicaraguanese' just tickle my funny bone (thanks, that's enough, Ozzy). —anobody |

Sunday, May 7, 2006 at 6:45 PM I saw those two pics when i took color and design. I believe those are Rembrant? The fruit pic is oil painted, and it deals with texture, and the quality of a countour line, it also has that 3-d look with an emphasis on the fruit. The second pic is deep space, distant type of pic. I forgot who the artist is, but it deals with the closeness and farness of thats wind thingy. —adams_babymomma |

Sunday, May 7, 2006 at 6:54 PM Edited Sunday, May 7, 2006 at 6:56 PM Were also going to learn about Mesopotamia (sp?) the roman empire, ancient greece (sculpture, music, theater, philosophy) What i HATE is that when i took physical anthropoplgy i was taught that the first humans were the neatherdals (sp?) and some african shit. Basically that they originated from apes. Now that im taking Humanties in the textbook it says The first humans: Mesopotamia, summerians (which is what i am) AHHHHHHH I HATE THIS. Who were the first humans??????? —adams_babymomma |
