CADCA coalitions in Atlanta and New York City were featured in alcohol awareness media events this week, hosted by CADCA and funded by a grant from Forest Labs. Dr. Drew Pinksy, Medical Director for the Department of Chemical Dependency Services at Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena, Calif., provided expert information at both events.Among the media outlets covering this week's events were: the CNN medical desk, Fox News, and Newsweek, Self, Prevention, Elle and Hoy magazines. Dr. Pinsky is a well-known addiction medicine specialist, radio and television personality, and relationship expert whose Westwood One radio program “Loveline” is heard in more than 100 markets, five nights a week. Pinksy’s presentations focused on the definition and characteristics of the disease of addiction and the pathways to recovery for persons suffering substance use disorders, with an emphasis on alcoholism.
