Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 1:44 AM Edited Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 1:44 AM Last Tuesday on Adam Corolla's radio show, he and his sidekick were commenting on the Asian Excellence Awards, put on by AZN TV. They claimed they had a clip of an award being presented on the show, which ended up being two guys saying nothing but "ching-chong" for 52 seconds.I'm not going to go into the whole thing (it's the same old same old.) For more details, I direct you to Angry Asian Man, who always does an excellent job at chronicling these things. My inbox has been filling up with press releases from APA orgs denouncing Carolla. They include information on how to express your displeasure: Joel Hollander, chairman and chief executive officer, CBS Radio, tel: 212-846-3939, email:joel.hollander@infinitybroadcasting.com
Dana L. McClintock, senior vice president, CBS Communications Group, tel: 212-975-1077, email:dlmcclintock@cbs.comThis isn't much of a shocker. I mean come on, just look at Carolla. Not to pass judgment on people based on how they look, but I'm sorry, he just looks like he would say something dumb and juvenile. Which is purposeful, I think. He's marketed as a beer-drinking, ball-scratching guy's guy. Plus, he was terribly annoying on Loveline. Now, before someone comes here and posts, "It's a joke, lighten up," let me just say something: Who cares if it's a joke, it's NOT FUNNY. Saying, "Ha ha, I was just joking" does not make it not racist. And it does not make it automatically funny either. As a joke, it sucks. I mean, come on, it wasn't funny on the playground in elementary school and it's not funny now. Grow up, people. - http://www.hyphenmagazine.com/blog/archives/2006/01/teased_kids_in.html OKAY EVERYBODY MAKING FUN OF PEOPLE IS WRONG, AND BAD, ESPECIALLY IF THEY'RE ASIAN -- BECAUSE THEY'LL HAVE LOTS OF MONEY TO MAIL LETTERS AND EXPENSIVE COMPUTERS TO WRITE THEM ON, AND ALSO CELL PHONES WITH FREE LONG DISTANCE. IF YOU HAVE TO MAKE FUN OF SOME ONE, POKE FUN AT THE SPICS BECAUSE THEY ONLY HAVE WHITE LIBERALS TO DEFEND THEM! That's all I have to say about that. —ZT-In-Exile |

Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 6:29 AM I'm with j4k3.. While I don't give a shit about the racist part, why do something that risky if it's NOT FUNNY? I hope they were at least saying fake chinese rather than literally "ching-chong." I was flipping through channels a few days ago and found JJ the Jet Plane.. there's this one towtruck that is supposed to be asian, and she talks so awfully. she's got the "ronrey" pronounciation, like Kim Jong Il in Team America, and it's supposed to be a kid's show.
If the kid can pick up on the humor in there, fine, but when they're the target age for this show, around 4, it's really not gonna help them. —Chrispy |

Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 10:00 AM Chrisp, sorry, it looked like this, "Ching-chong ching-chong ching-chong. Ching-chong? Ching-chong ching-chong! Ha, ha, ching-chong. Ching-chonh ching chong ching-chong." 'twas lame. I was offended only that the bit sucked as much as it did. —Small-Dorked Fish |

Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 10:09 AM I didn't hear it, but to me it sounds like the only point of it was to be offensive and I guess it worked. I don't see how it was supposed to be funny at all. —mandeemoo22 |

Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 10:56 AM Edited Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 11:31 AM I expected to see a little more support for the Ace Man. Look everybody, all of these uppity Asian American groups have been pissed off at everyone from Sarah Silverman to Margaret Cho. There are actually times when I'm prefectly happy with double standards, and they make a lot of sense. But when it's people firing back and forth at eachother like this where one side is considered vindicated and the other side is just supposed to shut up and take it... Well... Look... If you're going to let them get away with "he just looks like he would say something dumb and juvenile" and that he's a "beer-drinking, ball-scratching guy" then you need to shut the fuck up with all of your faux-piety. Did you notice how she judged Adam based on how he looked right after mentioning how important it is not to pass judgement on people about how they look? Come on everybody! Don't support hypocrites -- no matter how yellow they are. —ZT-In-Exile |

Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 2:41 PM I KNEW this was gonna happen once Adam got on the morning shows. I knew that the FCC, the bitchy little liberal groups defending everyone and their mother would use him as their new bitch scape goat. These people piss me off because they have no life other than making perfectly famous and funny people miserable because they use an occasional racist joke that only 1% of the population finds offensive. On Loveline, nobody cared becasue all you had to do was turn it off, but on the Morning show, everyone uses that for their news, weather, traffic, traffic, weather and news every 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, and 1/32 of the hour. Blah. —andrewwagner777 |

Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 3:07 PM Oh and BY THE WAY! Don't they realize that Adam doesn't control the sounds on the show!? It's the (Morning show version of Anderson) guy who controls them. Stop hating on Adam. —andrewwagner777 |

Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 3:10 PM I think that was the key with Sarah Silverman, maybe she was racist maybe she wasn't, it can be a fine line, but at least her joke was funny. This bit on Adam's show, whether racist or not, was just not funny. And they did it three times, which made it seem even more annoying by the third time. —TonyInPortland |

He's marketed as a beer-drinking, ball-scratching guy's guy. Plus, he was terribly annoying on Loveline. It's amusing that the blogger stereotypes Adam based on how he looks in his complaint about Adam doing a bit stereotyping Asians all talking alike based on how they look. As a beer drinking, ball-scratching guy, I am deeply offended at the stereotype that I somehow look like Adam and unless the blogger apologizes publically, I'm afraid I might have to ask Hyphen and its advertisers to stop sponsoring this blog. —Ganthet |

Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 3:29 PM Actually saying someone looks like an alcholic is a bit different to suggesting that all asian languages are simplistic sing-song nonsense unable to relay effective data and correlate the activities of sophisticated people with things to do the way english or whatever does. It's the difference between showing your cock and raping someone in the mouth. But it's all just a little hot sex. And evryonneee is a loser. —MajandraFan |

Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 3:44 PM Okay, I'm listening to it now. It's funny. And I've watched more Chinese television than anyone here so, actually does that mean anything? I'm fairly familiar with the liaoning dialect, audibly, I don't speak it. On that tip it wasn't even close, duh. Anyways, it's funny. Anyone who gets mad is damaged and has their esteem tied up in their ethnic identity. —MajandraFan |

Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 5:58 PM it was funny for like 10 seconds. Then it got dragged out for WAY too long. Then it was getting offensive, then annoying, then plain stupid. It would've been just fine if they left it at 5 to 10 seconds... but nope they had to drag it on. Thanks Damashek! —Peon U |

Friday, February 3, 2006 at 1:42 PM that "ching chong" bit is ridiculous! it should have been much more "ching CHANG" with an "ahs-so" every now and then with some of that chinese music, some white people using their index fingers to pull their eyes back to appear more squinty and a hookah pipe. ace rulz —bigfan'a'damage |
