I was pissed about the episode where Ben Stein, Adam and Drew all agreed that it was a good time to be poor in America and that rasiscm/bigotry doesn't really exist anymore. I get the feeling that Adam and Drew live in a sphere of So-Cal hyper-liberalism so that many of their points don't resonate with many of their listeners around the country. A lot of the "liberal pussy" stuff that Adam rallies against is found only in a couple places like LA, Seattle, maybe Portland and Boston. Hurricane Katrina and the federal Gov'ts reponse will go down as a dark footnote in the history of this country (although the agencies and people in general are stepping up to the task better now). A lot of people in New Orleans were not able to evacuate because they had elderly or sick people they had to take care of and more importantly, when you're poor you can't afford extended stays at a motel, and many people have too much pride to hold up as homeless people at the superdome for an undertimed period of time. —ProfessorCarbuncle |

The impression I got was that he was saying that some good could come out of this disaster. For instance, the unemployment rate was very high in that area, but now there's an effort to create jobs for people who were displaced by the hurricane, so the unemployment rate for the former residents of New Orleans might go down. Of course it's not good for those who died or lost people in the disaster, but perhaps we should focus on making life better for these people now instead of bitching and moaning. —no! cannot have! |
