The Aceman was actually quite relaxed and natural during this taping. The "big beats" were:
- Taking a few calls
- Talking to the crow expert
- Reviewing scenes from 'Con Air'
Adam was at his improvisational best during the first part of the show, taking calls and tangenting from them. The crow segment was nothing that Loveline fans hadn't heard before, although he did have a decent rapport with the crow guy, eventually assessing whether the crow guy got laid in high school or not. He honestly seemed to be ad-libbing things - at one point the production folks stopped him (because he was referring to 'Con Air' in a presumably unauthorized way) and when he restarted, he went in a different direction quite easily... before defiantly shouting 'Con Air!' again. Things went downhill from that point as he went into a film review of 'Con Air' in which he mocked cliche scenes in action movies. This was easily the weakest part of the show. All in all, not a bad outing for the Vicar of Christ. Not enough to make a judgement either way on how the show will fare. Late night television has traditionally demanded a lot of showmanship and star power, so I'm not sure whether or not Adam is going to make it by talking about attack crows, tumor-sniffing dogs and ranchero.... but I hold out hope that he'll find an appreciative audience. —Full Meat |
