Radio compressor settings?

I know some people on this board work at radio stations and I need your help! I bought an Alesis 3630 compressor today, what are the typical settings used on FM radio announcers. Like for example what would the threshold, ratio, attack and release usually be. Thanks allot!

There are two points in the chain where radio stations use compressors; can you clarify which one you're interested in?  They use compressors on each DJ's microphone, and then they use them for the overall output to the transmitter.  If you can clarify which type you want to do (mic voice processing or overall final sound processing), I'll check back later.

I love playing with that stuff!  I have a bunch of assorted audio processing toys myself.

My favorite article about mic processing is here.  I'm not sure if you'll recognize the names of the various contributors, but they are the heads of the most respected manufacturers of this equipment in the industry.  Good thoughts and good tips.

Thanks for the article it was very helpful. I recognized some of those brands listed. Makes me almost want to take back my Alesis for a product that’s more dedicated for voice processing. I got the part about there not being a standard preset used. That being the case I’m going to mess around with it a bit more keeping a lower ratio on it with soft knee mode.

Have a good day

I use the an ElectroHarmonix BLACK FINGER.
It's very warm and not at all squashy or artificial.

The guidelines vary soooo much from mic to mic and from application to application. I say; just try a whole lotta different settings (remember to write them down!) and then keep searching for even better settings.
A setting that works for me might sound like ASS when you apply it to what you're doing.

I think I got things set just right on it now. I had my eq set with to much bass which was a problem too.
