Anyone have info on this? As as the ranking Loveline expert in another forum, I was asked about this.

Dumbass me, I have never even heard of it.

Anyone? Bueller?

I'll bet it was the pennywise incident. The one in 1995 when Rachtman was on the show. Drew has to punch Fletcher in the face to keep him from vomiting on him.

Have any more information than "punch out incident"? I also have never heard of any stories by that name.

I've been listening since '95 and have never heard of this. Where's that Poorman lovin' dude when you need him?

Well, he tried to, right? I seem to recall him comparing punching Fletcher to punching a brick wall.

Nope. Riki Rachtman was in big trouble for punching someone who was making fun of his girlfriend, porn star Janine Lindemueller. That's what the punchout incident was all about. I think that it led to him getting shitcanned.

Thank god someone said something about his gf. Got him fired? Psyched. Imagine what the world would be like had that not happened...

If that is the actual reason that he left Loveline, they have done a damn good job covering it up - all sources I've ever seen say he just decided to quit.

Someone could ask him here.

Rachtman: Fighter and a Lover

Its one of those cruel ironies of life that KLSX 97.1 FM evening personality Riki Rachtman, who made his name as host of a show called "Loveline," should lose his job because he punched another talk host in the face. Rachtman had traded insults over the air with KLSX's Doug Steckler, co-host of the midday "Conway and Steckler" show. The exasperated Rachtman then challenged Steckler to a boxing match in response to some unkind remarks Steckler made about Rachtman's girlfriend. The quarrel escalated when the two encountered each other at the station Sept. 8. It was there that Steckler received his black eye and Rachtman was arrested and sent to jail.

The next day, Conway went on the air, described the event and its aftermath in detail, adding the fact that he had been told by management, not to discuss any of it with his listeners. He said that Steckler's left eye was swollen shut and that he suffered a contusion on his left jaw. "I've never seen anything like that," Conway remarked. "Where words will cause something like that." After a about a half hour, he was taken off the air and tapes of earlier Conway and Steckler programs were run instead. A few days later an embarrassed Rachtman was given his pink slip.

This incident got him fired from Loveline? Or was it another job at that KLSX station? Thanks for finding the article though. At least we know its not just made up.

I think Mandee has the right idea. I thought Loveline was broadcast on KROQ not KLSX, unless they switched.

I think the article confirms everything we knew before--Riki left Loveline on his own and got fired from something for punching someone out. From what I read in those magazines Rachtman has been all over the LA dial. Leykis is a program director at one of the stations and hired Rachtman at some point so he was probably still in the Westwood studios at the time.

Doesn't anyone here know who Conway and Steckler are? Well, go listen for 20 minutes and then come back and you will join me in my glee. They are JACKASSES!!

If by "doesn't look so gross" you mean a grown-up Eddie Munster that joined a heavy metal band then yes.

Yeah, I've seen him on BS TV a few times. He's not so head-turningly unpleasant to look at any more.
