A letter from Q101 about Loveline

Thanks for your comments about Loveline. As with all our decisions at Q101,
what the listeners want is always what's most important, so we'll definitely
take your thoughts into consideration.

Frankly, however, that's why we've been leaning toward canceling the program.
We've received so many comments from listeners through the years -- but
especially lately -- saying that they feel Loveline is an extremely tired
concept. Notes often say things like, "I used to enjoy Loveline years ago, but
it seems like now it's the same show over and over. I'm tired of it." And
lately, "Now that you're playing so much more variety with Q101 On Shuffle, I'd
rather hear music at night than the same old talk."

Once again, though, as no decision is ever final, we'll keep your comments in
mind. Unfortunately, in this case, it appears that we're not going to please
everyone -- as there are many people with strong opinions, some wanting talk and
some wanting more music. Thanks for taking the time to let us know where YOU
stand on the issue. Please keep in touch. And thanks for listening to Q101 --
Now on Shuffle.

Thought you Chicago fans would like to read that!

Even though I never listen to it on the radio any more, I'm glad my local station has kept it for 10+ years and counting.

This is brutal! I too am in Chicago and the only reason I ever listened to that crappy station was for LoveLine!

Now what?

Dammit!

Destroy Q101 headquarters, hunt down the people that complained about Loveline, and mete out harsh, bloody justice.

Anyone have a loss/gain tally? I'm curious if LL is losing stations faster than they are gaining them. What is the last station we have gained?

I just find it odd that people consider Loveline tired, but not that steaming piece of shit Mancow which goes on for FIVE HOURS EVERY MORNING. I'll concede Loveline at times can be stale, but if they drop Loveline for that reason and leave Mancow with free use of the radio waves for nearly a quarter of their broadcast day, they're full of shit with this more music thing.

Loveline tired? How dare you! Take it back. TAKE IT BACK! I can't believe you even said (typed) that.

If you're troubled by the idiots at Q101 and want Loveline on the air again in Chicago, there's something you can do. I just got the reply below to an e-mail I sent to the show today. Call either of the two stations and ask them to add the show.

Jack

Hi Jack:

We are aware that Q101 switched formats and is not carrying Loveline anymore. It was one of the highest rated programs on the station and is mind boggling that they will part ways with it after so many years. Please reach out to the following stations in the market and suggest they add they show:

WZZN-FM (94.7 Zone) Program Director - Bill Gamble - 312-984-9923
WDRV-FM (the Drive) Program Director - Greg Solk - 312-274-9710

This will help us find a new home for the show and please tell all your friends to call as well.

Thanks!

p.s. do not say that Loveline referred you.

Subject: Loveline in Chicago

Apparently, WKQX in Chicago just dropped Loveline from their schedule
in a misguided attempt to improve their poor ratings. I have to assume
that a more enlightened Chicago station will now pick up the show. Do
you have any information about where to hear Loveline in Chicago?

Thanks,
Jack

Actually, I think I might understand that one. The people listening in the morning are probably not the same people listening in the evening. So the people who are complaining about Loveline could easily be ones that don't listen to Mancow at all.

EDIT: Of course, let's not start comparing Loveline to Mancow. I remember him as a guest on Loveline and he's definitely one of the most annoying people they've had on.

To be honest, when I heard Mancow on LL I found him less repulsive than usual. He seemed fairly congenial and relaxed, outside the confines of his "Morning Madhouse". When I was in H.S. I would go to sleep listening to Adam and Drew on my clock radio, and wake up to the smattering of right-wing propaganda, racism and general immaturity that is his show. I will say, however, some of his "phone scams" are pretty funny. As far as morning shows go, I'd listen to Stern if i could but, as I can't, I prefer to infuse myself with current events via Morning Edition.

Also, The Drive is a classic rock station!?!? I just can't see LL taking root on 97.1, although rumor has it the station is run by a group of freewheeling millionaires. hence the relative lack of annoying commercials.

I'll make a point to e-mail encouragement to the Zone.

Q101 has scratched my last reason for tuning in. I've been a religious listner for 8 years, and although I will continue to be thanks to the demi-gods who continually upload the episodes, but I am outraged over this poor decision on Q101's fault. They've carried Loveline for 10 years, and all of a sudden they just nix it with no explanation to the listeners? I heard a DJ joke, "so, the pope's dead. Really sad...oh, and Loveline's gone." Very unprofessional. I've already written a letter to the Program Dir. at Q101, since his/her damn e-mail box is full (of hate mail I hope) and to the director at WZZN. I urge everyone to write WZZN 94.7 The Zone and tell them how badly you want Loveline to stay on the air in Chicago. Maybe we can make someone do something about it.

Also, make sure to send an email to the old station, saying how much you disaprove of the change and how you will be no longer listening to the station.

Let them know they are losing a listener.

I'm from the Chicago area too and im totally DEVASTATED. Loveline is like part of my everyday life...

Q101 really pissed me off, they usually are cool, but yea. Not on this...

Im just downloading the shows from one of the fansites, its a pain in the ass but atleast I still get to hear it :)

*Everyone send in complaints to Q101 so they know what a shitty decision that was...don't be rude though!*

I really enjoy how Q101 is trying to plug their "Shuffle" in this letter. I used to listen toQ101 BUT NO MORE!!!

Where did you come up with this address to send your angry email too? Even when the SAVE ADAM thread was alive, I never saw this.
If I did, I would certainly have sent (even more) email. And the P.S. "Don't tell them loveline sent you bit", I dunno... Makes me think you are trying REALLY hard to save loveline in your area, and god speed with that... but are you manufacturing things just to anger others so they join your bandwagon? That worked for Hitler, too. For awhile.

I encourage you to set me straight with this.

Cheers!

It's a new one I think. It appeared on the Loveline web page when KROQ redesigned their site. They're not using the earthlink address anymore I guess.

I was too greatly angered, disappointed and frustrated by Q101's decision. I tried to email their program director, but as others have noticed, the mail box is full. What a waste. Loveline was the only redeeming things about Q101, now that it's gone I don't intend on listenig to them at all.

Good for them for finally deciding to start playing more then 15 songs, but too little to late. Good riddance.
