Ever been in high school?

If you're expecting this to have anything to do with Loveline, you can stop reading now. I have to do this lame assignment where I'm supposed to go to a high school and interview "a few" students, but I'm not going to and I don't feel like making up answers. So. If you're bored, pretend you're in high school and answer one/all/none of the questions. If not, my apologies for wasting your time.

1. What is the most important characteristic of a good teacher?

2. When you are having trouble with a concept, what is the best way a teacher can help you?

3. What kinds of testing procedures does a good teacher use?

4. What can a teacher do to motivate you in an area?

5. What kind of rewards motivate you the most?

6. How does a good teacher handle the classroom?

7. What are some other traits of a good teacher?

8. In a few sentences, describe your idea of the ideal teacher.

Why the hell do these questions sound cheesy and dirty at the same time?

I thankfully graduated last year. I'll answer them:

1. Friendly and liberal

2. Give hints. Don't be an asshole and say "You should know this"

3. Where the entire class is involved. Like teams.

4. Use real-life situations and shit

5. Jolly Ranchers!

6. Being respected in the first place. Don't treat the students like crap and they won't do it to you.

7. Sense of humor, understanding students and problems of teenagers

8. Adam Carolla

1. What is the most important characteristic of a good teacher? To allow the students to organize themselves however they want and not make a set of rules for organizing one's binder (ie forcing them to use a Table of Contents). Also, to be able and willing to answer questions.

2. When you are having trouble with a concept, what is the best way a teacher can help you?A teacher shouldn't just tell me to go look it up in the book. They should come up with some sort of method that is very clear that would tell me how the concept was formed and how to use it

3. What kinds of testing procedures does a good teacher use?Use various different types because different people test well with different procedures such as research projects, oral exams (not oral sex), essays, and basic question and answer tests.

4. What can a teacher do to motivate you in an area?Make it fun and not just give out a lot of busy work. Try to include more discussion and debate because when I know that I am going to have to speak, it forces me to pay attention and gets me more involved.

5. What kind of rewards motivate you the most?Extra credit, money, food, drugs

6. How does a good teacher handle the classroom?He/she shouldn't be afraid to prove that he/she is the teacher and is in charge. I hate it when people in class just start calling out and stuff like that and the teacher just sits there like it doesn't bother anyone, even though it does. The teacher should just make it known that the class can be really fun as long as everyone is good. This excludes math because that can never be fun.

7. What are some other traits of a good teacher?Leaving their personal business at home (If your husband is having an affair, don't bring your bad mood in the classroom), trying to be objective (don't pick favorites), and being quick with grading papers

8. In a few sentences, describe your idea of the ideal teacher. My ideal teacher would be a really hot youngish guy. He would not flirt with his students, but he would be nice to all of them. He would also be available for help after class, have a good sense of humor, use the class's input on his lessons, not call on people when they aren't raising their hands, make sure everyone who wants to be involved is involved, and ensure that when he is giving a test, the class is well prepared.

Why the hell do these questions sound cheesy and dirty at the same time?
You are dirty and cheesy at the same time. However, that is your personality and it is not going to change. Remember, that is okay.

TADA!!!!

"1. What is the most important characteristic of a good teacher?

When they can shut up.

2. When you are having trouble with a concept, what is the best way a teacher can help you?

They can hand out automatic 100's to those who don't get the concept, so they won't fail.

3. What kinds of testing procedures does a good teacher use?

The kind where they give you all the ansers on the board right before you take the test; I've had that happen multiple times.

4. What can a teacher do to motivate you in an area?

No homework?

5. What kind of rewards motivate you the most?

The last day before summer vacation.

6. How does a good teacher handle the classroom?

They walk out right in the middle of it, and...free day!

7. What are some other traits of a good teacher?

8. In a few sentences, describe your idea of the ideal teacher.

(Seriously) the best type of teacher is the one that let's you do what you want, as long as you bring in half decent grades. No chasing up your back; you fail you fail, and you pass, then you should just be allowed to head out the door. No point in wasting time watching all the 'tards struggle.

On another note, perhaps for this project, instead of asking bored folks on a message board, just *make up* random ansers from what you *think* a normal highschooler would respond.

I graduated class of '03, so here it goes.

1. Likability. You should enjoy going to class. Like the Office Space quote goes, "Really my only motivation is not to be hassled. And that will only make someone work just hard enough to not get fired [or a bad grade]."

2. Step by Step student invlovement. Going over the procedure with the student and making sure he/ she understands the concept rather than just memorizing it.

3. Mixed tests. Some Multiple Choice, some short essay. Make it about as even for everyone as you can. I, for example, do very well on muliple choice, but my short essays can be kind of lax.

4. Um, I'm really not sure about this one. I guess just apply it to real life. I don't know how you make someone who's disinterested in math/ science interested in it, but for subjects like History/ English, try to make the people and events more relatable. The dates and names of treaties are interesting to no one.

5. Points/ grades really. My motivation for Math and Science is to get a better grade than everyone else. Maybe a "Cultural Event" day or something, where you watch a movie and bring food.

6. Well, likabilty is key. I behave in classes where I like the teacher and feel bad when I upset them. Sort of Laize-Faire, but you should still command respect when it is needed. Give group work projects where the students choose their own group and they will be less likely to talk during lectures.

7. Humor certainly even if it's hacky it shows their trying. Mean-spirited humor will alienate a teacher from the students. Relatablity. Interesting stories (key word: interesting). Kindness and a willingness to actually teach the students rather than just spouting off information.

8. Well, someone with tenure so they can do what ever the hell they want. Expirience is key. But, a young, hip teacher can be cool too. Someone who is relatable and funny. Interesting life experiences, too. My favorite teacher was a Vietnam Vet who would tell us about getting drafted, war stories, how he wash his colored clothes in the washing machine that said "colored" over it and his whites in the one that said "whites" on it, etc. Anyone who surfs/ skates.

Getting out side of the class room is good too. Like going to the library, going to read in a grassy area, etc.

1. What is the most important characteristic of a good teacher?

They should be a very good communicator.

2. When you are having trouble with a concept, what is the best way a teacher can help you?

By providing examples, especially real life examples. Examples that are relatable to the student are usually the best.

3. What kinds of testing procedures does a good teacher use?

A good teacher provides the student with an idea of all of the concepts that he/she expects the student to be familiar with for the test. They provide a good test prep to clear up any confusing concepts. They also have an administrative way for the student to challenge any incorrect answers they receive on tests, and get credit for them if the challenge has merit.

4. What can a teacher do to motivate you in an area?

I think the best way for a teacher to motivate a student is to challenge them to reach a goal, and then let them know when they have done good work in reaching that goal.

5. What kind of rewards motivate you the most?

In the classroom, most motivation is intrinsic. It helps if the teacher puts comments on the paper letting the student know that he/she understood that concept well. It also helps if the student understands how their performance in the classroom will affect them outside of the classroom (college, jobs, etc.).

6. How does a good teacher handle the classroom?

The classroom should be balanced between being relaxed and formal. It must remain relaxed enough for a student to feel free to ask questions and contribute. However, it must not become so chaotic that no learning takes place.

7. What are some other traits of a good teacher?

A good teacher is knowledgeable about a wide variety of subjects, not just the one they are teaching. A good teacher should have a wide range of life experience to draw upon in imparting knowledge to their students. They should be able to answer questions clearly and concisely, without throwing in too many concepts that may further confuse the student.

8. In a few sentences, describe your idea of the ideal teacher.

I like teachers that can make the subjects they are teaching interesting by providing examples that they have encountered in their lives. A good teacher can make a subject interesting if they are great storytellers. A good teacher also has a good grading system that is not too harsh, allows for the possibility of extra credit, and for the student to improve upon previous performance. One blown test should not be detrimental to their entire grade.

Sorry, I would have put the questions in bold to make them easier to distinguish from the answers, but I’m not exactly sure how you guys do that. I have an idea, but the other forums I use provide the little brackets and things automatically, and I haven’t decided that it would work here, or is important enough for me to learn.

Demonstrate practical applications of an idea or theory or relate the lesson to contemporary events.

5. What kind of rewards motivate you the most?

7. What are some other traits of a good teacher?

One who treats students with respect and understanding.

8. In a few sentences, describe your idea of the ideal teacher.

1. What is the most important characteristic of a good teacher? High expectations, and a love for the material.

2. When you are having trouble with a concept, what is the best way a teacher can help you? Explain it in a different way. Chances are, if one explanation didn't work the first time, it won't work the second. The teacher needs to be patient.

3. What kinds of testing procedures does a good teacher use? That depends on the subject, but I never liked multiple choice. It always seemed to test how good you are on multiple choice, not the subject.

4. What can a teacher do to motivate you in an area? No teacher can motivate me if the teacher doesn't love the subject. A love of a subject will be contagious.

5. What kind of rewards motivate you the most? Praise...verbal and written...

6. How does a good teacher handle the classroom? With patience, but firmly. The teacher must command respect but not fear, which is prob. a hard line to walk.

7. What are some other traits of a good teacher? They listen to what students have to say and really give them a chance to explain themselves.

8. In a few sentences, describe your idea of the ideal teacher. My ideal teacher treats me with respect and inspires me to respect him. The ideal teacher is really smart and knows really obscure facts about the subject.

Why the hell do these questions sound cheesy and dirty at the same time? cheesy cuz they are, dirty because it's the Loveline forum!!! Long live Ace and Dr. Drew!

I'm in a very happy mood tonight. I'm not sure why, but I feel I should pass the love on.

1. What is the most important characteristic of a good teacher? I've been through 3 different kinds of schooling: public school, private school, and home schooling. So I've had my fair share of teachers. But the most important... Well, the teacher should be understanding and flexible. If a student has a learning disability, they shouldn't be singled out in class and ridiculed for it. I've had my fair share of teachers piss on me because I learn differently. Thanks, guys. I love a teacher who has a great sense of humor and wants to learn more about their students. A teacher who overhears me talking about my rabbit being sick and then the next day asking how he's doing, is a really great thing. I'll remember that and want to work harder FOR that teacher.

2. When you are having trouble with a concept, what is the best way a teacher can help you? One on one, explaining it over and over. Trying different methods. Using real life examples. Hands on learning.

3. What kinds of testing procedures does a good teacher use? I hated tests. A teacher who gives you the test the day before and actually goes OVER it with you in class is the best. You know what to expect, you don't have to freak out about it, and you know what to study up on. Multiple choice are always great.

4. What can a teacher do to motivate you in an area? There's nothing you can do to motivate me in an area I have NO interest in, but if the teacher is someone who I WANT to do well for and is nice to me, makes class fun and doesn't lecture, then that's motivation enough.

5. What kind of rewards motivate you the most? I was never big on the jolly ranchers. They made my teeth ache. A simple "Great job, Liz!" is more than enough for me. Teachers who give out stickers also make me really happy. There's nothing more exciting then getting a sticker for doing well.

6. How does a good teacher handle the classroom? Let the kids sit however they want. In my private school, it was more of a "dysfunctional" school. There were desks, but a lot of people sat on the floor or brought in bean bag chairs or sat on the window sills. The ABC order shit is annoying. You know if the teacher makes you sit according to your last name that it's going to be a very long year/semester. Besides seating, make sure you engage the kids. Discussions, crayons, that kind of thing.

7. What are some other traits of a good teacher? Telling the students about themselves. Wanting their students to succeed and not giving them an angry look when they f up a test... being supportive of them and understanding.

8. In a few sentences, describe your idea of the ideal teacher. eh, i've said enough lol.
