Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at 12:49 AM Does anyone know just how the studios are set up for Loveline? I get the impression that Anderson is far away... I'm sure I come off as a complete douchenozzle once again, but if someone could explain the logistics of where they broadcast from, I'm curious. —Jon_Favreau |

Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at 12:55 AM as long as I'm relapsing... Anderson, the phone screeners, uh... other people are at WW2 in Culver City(?). Adam, Drew, Ann, and Lauren are at KROQ. They Broadcast the show via satellite to WW2 I think. —Hashmeer Shashmeer |

Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at 9:16 AM That reminds me of a question I've wanted to ask. Say, for example, when Adam is indignantly requesting big boob calls. Can the phone screeners hear the show, or does someone have to relay the message? if the phone screeners can hear the show, how are they expected to screen calls at the same time? And if the message has to be relayed... well, I wonder who does the relaying and how THAT conversation must go. heh. —Dark Laith |

Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at 11:58 PM What Hashmeer said... except that the KROQ/WW2 connection is probably an ISDN line or something (the studios are only two miles apart). WW2 then transmits the show to the satellite. (The KROQ/WW2 connection has to be bidirectional; I'd imagine a bidirectional satellite connection would have a huge lag time... users with a satellite-based broadband Internet connection could probably attest to this.)
Laith: The phone screeners are pretty busy before the show starts, but once the lines fill up, they only have to keep pace with Adam & Drew, filling up lines as A&D hang up on callers. Given Adam's low call-per-hour rate, this is a pretty relaxed pace. :-) The screeners can hear the show, since it is on the loudspeakers in the control room where they sit. Even when the speakers are off (e.g., while watching TV), Engineer Anderson could relay the message, since he sits in the same room and must listen to the show (on headphones) in order to bleep words and generally run the audio end of things. (Engineer Anderson's chair is behind call screener Tara in the picture at right... that's his mic in the background.) —Silent Virgin |

Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 6:32 PM Engineer Chris is in the same room though, right? He's gotta be, because he doesn't speak into the microphone all the time and we still hear him. —Stu-pot |

Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 6:42 PM I've always assumed the engineers were outside the booth, but their control panels had separate mics/cans. —barrelofsharks |

Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 7:06 PM Edited Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 7:08 PM At WW2, Anderson used to be in a seperate room. At KROQ, Chris/ Michelle are in the same room as the "talent". However, Ann and Lauren are in a seperate room "producing". EDIT: What does Chris/ Michelle do during the show, besides turn up the mics? And, do other DJ's need a engineer, or do they work the board themselves? —Hashmeer Shashmeer |

Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 7:27 PM Edited Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 7:28 PM The STL - WW2/KROQ connection might also be a microwave transmission. Since along with the regular audio there is the telephone hybrid control and screen data. It does take some skill to run the boards and stuff. Adam and Drew could do it themselves but it would become difficult. Adam is dedicated to punching up the callers, and then Drew is trying to run the board or get a song playing when a guest is in. Concentrating on a caller at the same time would be too much. Who would give Adam the finger when coming back from break? —24/7KROQ |

Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 7:36 PM I know, obviously for talk radio you need an engineer. Although Drew did used to run the board himself (grammar?). My question was of the other DJ's (i.e. Stryker, Nicole Alvarez, etc.). Whenever I see a pic of a studio, there's only room for one person and the DJ seems to hit the break buttons. —Hashmeer Shashmeer |

Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 8:20 PM Edited Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 8:23 PM I think they are in a different KROQ studio. The auction winner pics and ones from Good Morning America don't match. Really looks like a big upgrade. I'm not sure of anything though. EDIT: I just played the GMA video again. Are they at Westwood One because I see a KROQ banner, but Anderson and the phone screeners are with them. Like I said, not sure of anything. —24/7KROQ |

Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 9:03 PM The GMA video was from a 2002-03-19 broadcast, and they moved to the KROQ studio in September 2003, so the GMA footage is definately from Westwood One. —Kevin U. |
