Kevin Smith is better at acting than anything else he does. He is a fairly apt comedic actor, but not that fuck hot. Not one of his movies is good, and they're only not awful because of that Jason Mewes guy. Kevin Smith is also a severely repressed man with his desire for men, and this is reflected in his work and fanbase.
