Friday, March 11, 2005 at 9:48 PM Holy shit. I laughed harder than I have in months. "Talk about paying dividends. That Chicano Studies program at the Jr. College my mom takes.... There's nothing like taking up Chicano Studies when you look like a chunky Tom Petty with a vagina. That is, if Tom Petty were to go to Jr. College for 50 years." LMFAO! —Yesterdaze |

Saturday, March 12, 2005 at 11:03 AM I knew a woman who looked like a chunky Tom Petty - she ran the Girl Scout Council for a while. It was an eerie effect, plus she was insane and evil. The best part was mentioning the Tom Petty part to other people and having them either be astounded by the accuracy or think that I read their minds. —Dubious Merit |

Saturday, March 12, 2005 at 7:34 PM "Nope, nothing. Never heard of the Heartbreakers" These kids today. "You Got Lucky" was the first video I ever saw back when MTV was but a year old.* Damn I feel old. * You see back then they would play what were called "music videos" and they would do it 24 hours a DAY!! That's what the 'M' was for: "Music." And there weren't any pubescent tards screaming shout outs in a PIP over a two minute clip of 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams. I want my MTV BACK!!
Sorry, that won't happen again. —Beat It! |

I heard "Here comes my girl" the other day on the radio, and as it is not the best song, it still brought me back to when I was 17. Good times. That's what it's all about. —oh-for |

Monday, March 14, 2005 at 2:06 PM Edited Monday, March 14, 2005 at 2:07 PM Technically Tom Petty is not oldies music. That would be music from the 50's. Petty would be classed more as classic rock...at least with the heartbreakers. Not that I am a big fan. I really just like that first album. "the who sucks?" Blow me. Monday, March 14, 2005 at 2:09 PM Edited Monday, March 14, 2005 at 2:11 PM *Credits Dark Laith* I don't mind if people don't like Classic Rock, but you should appreciate it. I'm no big fan Tom Petty myself, but don't just hate all old music. Also, I don't really care if young people are into all that crappy music as long as they like good music, too. Those band will not stand the test of time very well. Sorry if I come off as an elitist prick. I like Blink 182, Green Day, etc. and get my fair share of ribbing. I think Oldies is just Pop from the 50's-60's. Jimi Hendix is from the sixies and is classified as Classic Rock (he only had 1 top 40 hit). —Hashmeer Shashmeer |

Those band will not stand the test of time very well." That stands true of most time periods. About eighty percent of what is released is disposable just from the sheer mass of music released in any given year. In time, a handful of seminal bands are remembered and revered relative to the multitude who actually released music. It is usually more appreciated by those who were into it during that time period (for me the best stuff was the 80s, although most people dismiss it as bubblegum crap, synthesized new wave crap, hair metal crap, faux-punk crap or rap crap) and eventually becomes ironic or camp to future generations ('safety dance' anyone?) So has it been, so shall it always be. —Beat It! |
