after weightlifting for football. we broke it down. sadly there were no helmets. i was reciting "that helmet, not a chair. now gentlemen, and i use that term loosely." to my only friend who listens to loveline. it was great times. Now bring a hand in. Break it down. My coach used that verbatim, good times.

I never played football, but when I played soccer and basketball "get a hand in" and "the ball is not a chair" were often in there. Good times. I miss team sports. I was also often told to take "Take a lap" for various acts of tomfoolery.

In soccer we were often told to "get a hand in", but we didn't just stand there and clap, we all put our hands in a circle and bobbed them up and down. I don't know how that pumped anyone up. It never really made sense to me. I just always liked the cheers we did at the end of the game for good sportsmanship. My favorite was always:
"Potato chips, potato chips, munch munch munch.
Who do we think is a mighty fine bunch?"

LOL I remember the Potato chips cheer. I was more with bguirk in the respect that I was usually the one "taking a lap" for being a dick and cracking too many jokes, or getting yelled at that "the ball is not a chair!! stand up!!"

I used to have to take laps in soccer and basketball all the time. For my shenanigans, of course. Never "got a hand in," though.

Funny how all the homosexuals on the board like to pretend they are straight with the football stories...

Most of my lap taking resulted on the track team during the team stretch. About 3 of us would sit near the women's team and someone would always crack the other two up with some comment about flexability. Of ocurse the instant the snickering began our three last names would be yelled with the inevitable "take a lap." If the coach heard what we said we'd have to take two.

I like how shenanigans and tomfoolery have both been used in this thread. Someone needs to drop ballyhoo into a post and we can call it a day.

When I played high school baseball we were often told to "get a hand in", "don't sit down, grab a knee", called "ladies", etc. I always had to run laps for forgeting my hat, socks, belt, etc. Oh, good times.

Also, I was late for P.E. everyday and had to run laps with my stoner buddy. I heard the coach once say, "You don't want to end up like those guys" as we started running and I busted up laughing.

I always found/find it interesting that all the care/nurturing/worry about providing a safe environment for students goes out the window when it comes to student sports. Every day after school (and during PE) the PC crap stopped and the head games and abuse began. I had some great coaches, but there were some burnt out psychopaths in there too. If a teacher called a male student a woman during school hours they'd have to go to some seminar about gender sensitivity and student achievement support. Magically on the sporting pitch the same slur is character building.

Get a hand in.

Everything changes when it comes to sports. Everything Bguirk just said goes along with the whole ass slapping thing.
