I need some CD burning help

I am unable to burn my downloads of the show onto a CD. I have tried several different methods, but because the show is one big file, I get a message saying the file is too big. HELP! Try to remember that I am NOT a computer genius, or even that literate. I would love to be able to burn them in mp3 AND wav files, so I can listen in my car stereo too.

As far as I can tell, burning to music CD is impossible unless you cut pieces of the show off. It is simply too large. Bitrate doesn't matter, for some reason; my uneducated guess would be that, in the format in which music CDs are encoded, files are not any smaller even at a low bitrate. It still takes up just as much space on the CD.

If, however, you want to burn an mp3 disc which can be played on a computer, DVD player, or some of the newer CD players, I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to fit several shows on one disc.

Yeah, you can't fit a whole show on an audio CD. Gotta break it in half, using some wav editing software or something, and burn 2 discs for each show. Or you could get an mp3-playing Discman and burn an mp3 disc with a whole bunch of shows on a single disc.

The mp3 method is pretty straight-forward, but the "breaking the show in half" is more involved. You have to open the mp3 up in Wavelab or Audition or something, and save each half out as an individual wav file, then burn each of them to their own disc.

The mp3 disc is a better idea, but if you HAVE to play a show in a normal CD player, the 2 audio CD plan works fine.

If your car stereo is more than a few years old and have the scratch, get a new one that is .mp3 capable. Then you can put 16 (or so) epsiodes onto a disc in .mp3 format and listen for days.

I'm working on this myself. Of course, I need one for the work vehicle and one for my personal vehicle, so how about a hand out?

;)

Thanks Liz and Santa's Mouth(gross analogy. I sometimes wonder if someone not a fan of the show would think this is a good screenname. Nothing worse than a guy's hairy ass. Sorry about the tangent.) I feared as much. I'll try in the morning when I get home from work. I know that some new car stereos are mp3 compatible, I'll have to get one. Or drive where loveline is broadcasted. Any other suggestions are appreciated.

That's my problem too, colin. One for work. good times

Actually, you can fit a whole show on a cd, you just need to look around for long playing cds- the best buy near me carries cds that hold 105 minutes.

Foob here is goofing on us. I just went to Bestbuy.com and found this Blank CD FAQ:

Q: What type of digital media do I need for my type of storage device?
A: Depending on the your type of storage device, the options are:

1. CD-R (Compact Disc-Recordable) — Available in 4x, 8x and 12x, the standard 12-cm disc comes in 2 capacities: 80 minutes (700MB) and 74 minutes (650MB).

(I bet his 105 minute CDs are the size of a mason jar, too.)

I use "Cool MP3 Splitter". You can google it to find a free trial download. I have tried all the MP3 splitters I know of and this is the easiest and fastest.

I like Mp3DirectCut, works real good and it's user friendly.
To tell you the truth, I prefer using an accelerant when burning CD's. Try Ronsonal lighter fluid, or perhaps the lighter fluid that's used to get the BBQ going(it's a little cheaper).
Anyway....good luck and try not to burn the house down!

The easiest way is to burn them in mp3 format on to some blank cds. Or you can get a portable mp3 player and put them on that and get your self this attachment for your car:

Actually they do make higher capacity CDs that use the same CD format they just arent compatitble with all burners and players... But i think this is what foob was talking about. I've found that Best buy information is often a couple years behind current.
you can find some higher capacity CDrs here.

I worked at Best Buy for the holiday season and they do have 100 minute CD-Rs. They also have the resources to order special products for you, just let them know.

Yes, but if they don't work in my crappy old portable CD player, I don't care, now do I? And if I should buy a new one anyways, as I'm sure someone would say to that, then i should just get one that can play MP3 CDs. (Yes, I realize this topic isn't about me, but I'm just saying, why would anyone bother making a product like that? or, if it came out before MP3 CDs, why bother continuing to make them now that such things do exist.)

Get an mp3 player with a car adapter.

I got an fm transmitter for my MP3 player, goes through an FM station of my choosing.
It works good for talk shows, but not as good for music.
Belkin Tunecast II FM Transmitter

Well, it's settled then. Pick a plan:

A.) Get an mp3 player and one of those FM broadcaster things, and burn mp3-discs full of shows,
-or-
B.) Learn how to use Wavelab or Audition or something and break each show in half and burn 2 audio-discs for each show you want to listen to.

(I didn't know 800Meg discs existed, and I STILL don't know if they're compatable with normal CD players, but if you want to look into it, that WOULD be a third option.)

If you do split them up, use Audacity. It's free as in free speech, and it rules.

You could drop the bitrate and drop the quality a little.

Yeah, bitrate matters if you're talking mp3, but an audio CD is at CD audio quality, no matter what you burn it from, and only the elusive 105 minute CD ;) would be able to handle a whole show.
