That stands true of most time periods. About eighty percent of what is released is disposable just from the sheer mass of music released in any given year. In time, a handful of seminal bands are remembered and revered relative to the multitude who actually released music.

It is usually more appreciated by those who were into it during that time period (for me the best stuff was the 80s, although most people dismiss it as bubblegum crap, synthesized new wave crap, hair metal crap, faux-punk crap or rap crap) and eventually becomes ironic or camp to future generations ('safety dance' anyone?)

So has it been, so shall it always be.
