Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 8:57 AM NBC's 'Fear Factor' Sued for Rat-Eating Episode LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Watching contestants eat dead rats on NBC's gross-out stunt show "Fear Factor" so disgusted a Cleveland man that he has sued NBC for $2.5 million, saying he could not stomach what he saw. In a handwritten four-page lawsuit filed in federal court in Cleveland on Tuesday, paralegal Austin Aitken said, "To have the individuals on the show eat (yes) and drink dead rats was crazy and from a viewer's point of view made me throw-up as well an another in the house at the same time." His suit added, "NBC is sending the wrong message to its TV watchers that cash can make or have people do just about anything beyond reasoning (sic) and in most cases against their will." He said the show caused his blood pressure to rise so high that he became dizzy and light-headed, and when he ran away to his room, he bumped his head into the doorway. In a brief telephone interview with Reuters, Aitken said, "I am not at liberty to discuss the complaint unless it is a paid-interview situation." A spokesman for "Fear Factor" said the show would have no comment until it sees a copy of the complaint. The spokesman said the program did feature an rat-eating scene in New York's Times Square on Nov. 8. Over the years, contestants on the program have eaten some weird things, including ground-up spiders and live worms. Reuters/VNU --------------------------------- Now, I know Adam hates frivolous lawsuits (and he should), but wouldn't you say that he'd be glad to hear this happened? —Dark Laith |

Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 10:06 AM We can not judge. But if we could: Joe Rogan is a hack and a half. First he accuses Dennis Leary of stealing other comics acts while he takes over Adam and Jimmy's show? He also happens to host one of the worst shows on network TV. Sue on, brother. But--We can absolutely not judge. —bguirk |

Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 10:20 AM That's ignorant. Unless a network executive had a gun to the guy's head and made him watch, this is just plain stupid. —Masteel |

Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 12:30 PM is that [the man show new hosting set up] the reason why Joe Rogan doesn't appear on Loveline anymore?... —salemthepocketfox |

Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 2:00 PM That would be a really stupid reason for Joe Rogan not to be on Loveline anymore. I don't understand why Adam hates him. It isn't like Adam was fired so Rogan could get the job. Plus, the new version of the Man Show lasted much shorter than Adam's version. —mandeemoo22 |

Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 2:18 PM Maybe Producer Anne just figures that there would be a weird tension between him and Adam and chooses not to try and book him anymore. —Dark Laith |

Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 2:50 PM I think there's general dislike for Rogan in the comic community. Listen to the show with Tim Meadows and Tina Fey. Even Tina Fey gets in on the piling on when it came to Fear Factor. Calling out another comic for stealing an act, tha Man Show move (which wasn't stealing but was pretty cheap of both the comics and Comedy Central), and the general steaming turd that is Fear Factor are all good reasons not to book him. There's a reason that Doug Stansville dude is doing imfomercials for Girls Gone Wild. Maybe they just aren't that talented. —bguirk |

Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 2:54 PM Doug Stanhope is edgy and not for everyone. He's "spun" a lot on XM 150. I like him and Adam. How is it possible? ;-) —Colin |

Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 3:53 PM I thought about Adam when I heard the story too. It's a bullshit lawsuit though. Change the channel dipshit (love the part that he must be paid to do an interview about the suit, douche nozzel). Like when woman's groups complained about the Man Show, then DON'T WATCH IT. I like Joe Rogan. I thought Newsradio was one of the best sitcoms ever (better than Friends easily, and Seinfeld by a tad) though, admittedly, he wasn't THAT big a part of the show. I got his stand up CD and it's pretty damn funny (except for the lame song on it). And I enjoy Fear Factor. I don't like the eating stuff either, but I just change the channel during that part. I think the stunts are crazy and fun to watch (sliding down the side of the pyramid hotel in Vegas?!) The New Man show WAS awful though. And Joe was particularly bad on it. Stanhope had one bit I liked when he was doing interviews at the old folks home, and he seemed cool on Stern with Adam admitting the show was pretty shitty. I wish he'd be back on. They actually seemed to get along the other couple times I heard him on loveline. —Logo Lou |

Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 4:02 PM Lou, I gotta agree with you on that. If you don't like a show, just change the channel. That guy has no one to blame but himself. Fear Factor: I don't care for it. Joe Rogan: I don't care for him either. New Man Show: Shit. Pure shit. —Manual |

Saturday, January 8, 2005 at 10:31 PM Actually, Adam doesn't care either way about having Joe Rogan on the show or that Man Show was cancelled. He told the story once of how Joe was booked on Loveline after getting Man Show. Then, Adam happened to mention to Jimmy on the phone that Rogan was guesting on Loveline soon. JIMMY said that wasn't going to work and apparently Carolla did what he said. At least, that's the way Adam tells it and knowing his usual apathy about projects I don't see any reason to believe he's making this up. —sprewell |

Sunday, January 9, 2005 at 7:31 AM I'll give a second vote of confidence in some of Rogan's work. News Radio was hilarious, due to the ensemble cast, (mostly Hartman and the good writing) and Joe was a big part of that. His CD, at least the one I heard is freaking hilarious. At least, the opening is hilarious, I can't even remember if I listened to the rest of it or not, but it's worth it for the opening bit. He’s nobody special, but he’s got some funny stuff. Adam doesn’t work too well with any guest who tries to talk to much or (shudder) disagrees too much with him (case in point Jay Mohr, yeah I know everyone thought they were just fine together, but I still say there was tension) so maybe that’s the reason Jimmy said it wouldn’t be a good idea.

Monday, January 10, 2005 at 9:58 AM Other than DAG, Adam and Drew just don't like it when the guests think the show is all about them. Listen to their reaction to the Darkness. I can remember one of Roagan's early appearances when Fear Factor first came out--nothing much happened, it was an average show. —bguirk |

Monday, January 10, 2005 at 4:19 PM Doug Stanhope is the biggest idiot I've ever seen. Those girls gone wild commercials make me want to clean out a post office with a 30-30. Dave Attel (sp?) is friends with Stanhope, so he is also guilty by association. Just venting... —gouranga3221 |
