Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 12:59 AM Evanescense is the most original/unique sounding band i have heard lately. Most of the bands and music I hear today seem to write and play music in the 4th grade level. Experiment and play some modern pop tunes at the same time and they all sound the same. Dave Matthews (Five for Fighting?) is also a good one. I'm no music expert, just an older Loveline listener (33) who grew up listening to bands who took time to really write good songs. —savethebabies |

Sunday, July 3, 2005 at 2:17 AM >>Evanescense is the most original/unique sounding band i have heard lately<< If you're looking for original/unique sounding music try the following: The Mars Volta (Deloused at the Comatorium, Frances the Mute) At The Drive In Bright Eyes (Digital Ashes in a Digital Urn) These Arms Are Snakes The Shins Violent Femmes If you're into softer stuff: Ray Lamontagne (Trouble) Damien Rice (O) Bright Eyes (I'm Wide Awake It's Morning, Lifted) Dashboard Confessional (The Places You Have Come to Fear The Most) Ani Difranco I'd even say that Modest Mouse, and The White Stripes new album (Get Behind Me Satan) is pretty experimental and unique. There's tons of good, original, unique music out there, you just have to look because none of it gets any airplay (except the Stripes)on most radio stations. The general public likes formulaic, "stupid" music because it doesn't require much thought. Its background noise for most people. I would especially reccomend Bright Eyes. You might want to check out some of Chris's lyrics, they're sappy and sentimental, but at least they're interesting (no the two aren't mutually exclusive). He actually comes from a Hardcore band, before he decided to let his sentimental Emo side out. I saw them in concert last year and I have to say it was one of the best shows I've seen, and nary a teeny bopper in the crowd. Anyway, just food for thought. Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at 1:10 PM Catloaf, you a fan of Big Black? —Margin Walker Not a HUGE fan, that's the only CD of theirs that I own. I have it on vinyl too but I haven't had a record player in years so I ended up buying the CD. As I said, not a HUGE fan, but it IS one of only three CDs that I have in vinyl also. The other two are XTC's Skylarking and Tom Waits' Swordfishtrombones. —catloaf |
